Chapter 138 Truly My Husband
"It's impossible!" Rosen said firmly.
Seeing Rosen's emotional state, Vivian paused. "Wait a moment."
Vivian parked the car steadily at the hotel, pulled the handbrake, turned off the engine, then took out her phone and showed Evelyn's photo to Rosen. "Are you sure it's her?"
Although they had met before in Tedia, Vivian doubted whether Rosen would remember after such a long time, or perhaps it was just a case of mistaken identity.
"Yes, it's her!" Rosen said, "Are you sure you don't know?"
In each other's eyes, Vivian and Rosen found mirrored confusion.
"It seems like I need to get to know Evelyn again," Vivian said softly.
Evelyn returned home, took out the two small wooden figures, placed them on the living room cabinet, and wrapped the small piece of wood in paper before taking a shower.
Normally, she wouldn't rush to take a shower upon returning home, but after the altercation with Rosen, she felt like her hands had touched something dirty and needed to wash them thoroughly.
At that moment, Evelyn was impatient and didn't want to waste time with Rosen. She didn't think much about it then, but now, reflecting on it, Rosen's words seemed to carry deeper meaning.
Rosen mentioned being a judge in this year's annual competition and having the power to prevent Evelyn from entering the finals. Evelyn believed it wasn't just an empty threat; Rosen might indeed have that authority or perhaps the connections to do so.
The list of judges had already been sent out by the competition, so it wouldn't be surprising if Rosen knew about it. Moreover, he had been invited as a special guest to the last tasting event, indicating his status in the industry.
She didn't expect someone of such prominent status to engage in such distasteful actions. It was truly disgusting!
After showering and changing into comfortable loungewear, Evelyn took out some snacks.
Samuel didn't allow Evelyn into the kitchen. Still, considering there were times when she was alone at home or returned early, he had thoughtfully set up a snack cabinet filled with various snacks that Evelyn loved.
Most of the snacks inside were her favorites, and Evelyn was amazed at how well Samuel knew her preferences as if there was nothing about her that Samuel didn't know.
Thinking of Samuel, she couldn't help but smile, feeling a sense of happiness.
She took a few bags of snacks and placed them on the table, then brewed a pot of coffee. The air was filled with the aroma of coffee, something Evelyn particularly enjoyed.
Leaning back on the sofa, she tore open the snack bags and started snacking while watching a drama series. Previously, Evelyn had been focused solely on work and had no time to watch TV series. However, since being with Samuel, he had taught her to relax, to take it easy, to balance work and leisure, and most importantly, to enjoy life.
Evelyn slowly began to realize that occasional relaxation actually helped in finding inspiration. Slowing down a bit allowed her to appreciate the beauty of the world more.
Coincidentally, the TV series she was watching was about backstage intrigues in a talent show. The female lead and a few supporting actresses faced unfair treatment despite their outstanding performances, which reminded her of the unfair treatment she might be facing in the competition.
As the memories played out on the screen, there was a scene where a bald judge tried to engage in a sexual relationship with the female lead but was rejected, leading to various retaliations.
Evelyn couldn't help but draw parallels between that judge and Rosen. Was Rosen also trying to engage in a similar relationship with her today? But how could that be, considering the close relationship between Rosen and Vivian, as mentioned by Cathy before?
Was there something going on between Vivian and Rosen? Could Liam's sudden, mysterious car accident be related to this?
As she connected the dots, Evelyn wondered if Rosen's actions were driven by pure greed or if there was some other conspiracy at play.
Lost in her thoughts, Evelyn didn't even notice when Samuel returned.
When Samuel entered the room, he saw Evelyn leaning on the sofa, her long legs bathed in the orange sunlight. One hand held a snack bag, and the other hand offered a snack to her mouth, but she had yet to eat it. The TV was on, but Evelyn wasn't watching. Her beautiful eyes stared ahead, unfocused, lost in her thoughts.
Samuel walked over, bent down, and took a bite.
At that moment, Evelyn snapped out of her reverie and saw Samuel about to eat her snack. Quickly, she stuffed it into her mouth.
"You can't have..." Originally,Evelyn smirked, but before she could finish, Samuel kissed her, taking the remaining snack from her mouth. He then licked his lips, savoring the taste.
Evelyn was stunned!
Samuel's allure was truly irresistible.
Seeing Evelyn's adorable expression, Samuel kissed her lips again, then wrapped his arms around her and lifted her, letting her sit on his lap. "What were you thinking about? You were lost in thought. Were you thinking about me?"
Such a narcissist!
"If I say no, will you just throw me on the floor?" Evelyn wrapped her arms around Samuel's neck as if afraid he might actually do so.
"I wouldn't do that." Samuel chuckled, kissing Evelyn's forehead. "I need to reflect on why my wife isn't thinking about me every moment while I'm constantly thinking about her!"
Evelyn fell silent. She pondered, 'What a sweet-talker!'
"I did think about you, but I have a lot of things to do. I had lunch with Laura today, and we decided to go to the beach for a trip soon before it gets too cold."
"Sure, that sounds good." Samuel nodded.
"Cathy said the entries for the annual competition have been submitted, and after my trip, the preliminary results should be out soon. I can focus on developing new products."
Samuel raised an eyebrow. "You already have new ideas so quickly?"
"It's not exactly inspiration, just some thoughts," Evelyn explained, "It's a new experiment, and I'm not sure how it will turn out, but I want to give it a try."
After a moment of contemplation, Samuel nodded and said, "Go ahead and try. Even if it doesn't succeed, it's still a valuable experience."
"You are a wonderful husband, thinking along the same lines as I do!" Evelyn commended Samuel with delight.
Samuel's eyes lit up. "What did you just say? Say it again."
"I said you always support me!" Evelyn blushed.
"No, not that sentence, the one before!" Samuel shook his head.
She was too shy to say more.
