Chapter 158 Truly Embarrassing

Rosen held a glass of wine, looking smug. His gaze swept over the crowd, lips curving with amusement. "Do you know who that person is?"

Glancing over, Vivian shook her head. It was her first time here, so she couldn't possibly know these people.

"That person is Mr. Thompson, not only the chairman of this event but also a top perfume designer renowned, one of the few talented individuals in the international fragrance industry, ranking among the best!" Rosen held up two fingers in an "eight" gesture, implying something profound. "Do you think, if she offends him, Evelyn can still stay here or continue in the fragrance industry?"

After Rosen's explanation, Vivian instantly understood, unable to contain her joy. "In that case, Evelyn is done for!"

"Well, not necessarily." Rosen shook his head lightly. "Mr. Thompson's mood is unpredictable; no one can guess his thoughts. Anyway, let's wait and see!"

Despite Rosen's words, Vivian was unfazed. She thought no one would willingly be publicly criticized for improper conduct, especially by someone of such law status. Evelyn accusing Matthew in front of so many people of not doing well or even being unfair implied her exerting influence and showing no mercy to him.

Vivian thought gleefully, 'Now Evelyn is in trouble!'

Matthew chuckled twice when faced with Evelyn's accusations. "I never said it was fair."

Everyone present was in an uproar.

Matthew didn't care about the reactions around him. He paused for a moment and said, "This world is inherently unfair. Some are born with a sharper sense of smell than others; some are born rich enough to support their dreams, while others' lifelong efforts cannot reach the heights of the gifted. Is that fair? It's inherently unfair! You can't expect me to be fair."

While these words were harsh, upon reflection, they were also true. Many things were inherently unfair from birth without absolute fairness.

"I'm not asking the organizers to be absolutely fair, but at the very least, respect is something people should have. So far, most of you haven't even seen the organizers, right?" Evelyn remained calm. When Matthew countered her, she showed no signs of panic, maintaining a composed demeanor.

Others whispered, nodding occasionally. They all had such thoughts but dared not voice them.

Matthew fell silent, fixing his amber eyes on Evelyn. The more the tense atmosphere lingered, the more unsettling it became, like a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any moment.

Despite the many people present, the scene was eerily quiet. Every sound was amplified, and it was evident to keen observers that Matthew was angry. As an authoritative figure, a master-level presence, being publicly reprimanded by Evelyn was truly embarrassing.

On the sidelines, Olivia was sweating profusely. How did it come to this? Olivia was extremely, never expecting the situation to escalate to this point. If she had known earlier, she would have agreed that Evelyn shouldn't come today.

Vivian was the most excited person. Her mind was filled with thoughts of Evelyn being in trouble-Evelyn was in deep trouble!

Vivian said to herself inwardly, 'Evelyn didn't know where to stand. She was so proud that she shouted to Matthew. If he gave her the order, her perfume career would be over. However, Matthew is so powerful. If I can get in touch with Matthew, I can borrow Matthew's reputation, and if he could be my teacher, my future will be bright.'

With these thoughts in mind, Vivian had a plan.

Just as the tension was about to explode, a clear and pleasant female voice broke the heavy atmosphere. "Hey, Dad, I've been looking for you for ages, and here you are!"

With long brown-gray waves and a princess dress, Lisa made her way through the crowd, directly linking arms with Matthew, her face beaming with joy.

This smile clearly diffused the awkwardness of the moment. Matthew's tense and serious expression softened into one of indulgence as he looked at Lisa. "You're running around again."

"I'm not. Just now, I was over there..." Her voice suddenly stopped, and Lisa realized something was amiss as she looked around. "Why are you all looking at me?"

Upon closer inspection, within the circle of attention, Lisa found not only herself and Matthew were present, but also...

"Evelyn!" Lisa's eyes lit up when sheexcitedly called out.

Lisa let go of Matthew's hand and took the initiative to link arms with Evelyn. "It's really you; I didn't mistake you; it's really you! How did you end up here? Did you come here to see me?"

Evelyn remained silent.

The others fell silent.

Olivia fell silent, too.

The happiest person in the room was Lisa, who was bouncing and talking non-stop. "I knew you wouldn't forget me, but why didn't you contact me again? Do you know that the scent pouch you gave me lost its fragrance later on? I tried many substitutes, but none were as good as yours. Now that you're here, can you tell me..."

Coughing twice, Matthew interrupted Lisa, "Lisa, don't be too mischievous."

After all, with so many people present, Matthew couldn't directly reprimand her, so he gently reminded Lisa.

"Dad, I'm not mischievous. Do you remember me mentioning Evelyn to you before? My good friend from Vistalia, it's her!"

As she said, she directly linked arms with Evelyn and pulled her forward, positioning her in front of Matthew. "Evelyn, let me introduce you. This is my Dad!"

It was awkward, indeed!

"Hello, I'm Evelyn Taylor, Lisa's friend." Evelyn was the first to break the awkward silence, extending her hand for a handshake.

Seeing Evelyn's outstretched hand, Matthew glanced at Lisa, who was beaming with joy, and shook Evelyn's hand. "Nice to meet you!"

It was truly a "pleasant" encounter!

Surprisingly, the intense atmosphere that was about to erupt dissipated just like that.

Some even envied Evelyn. They never expected Evelyn to know Lisa. This wasn't just a quick success, but it was a step towards success. With just a word from Matthew, making a name for her in this circle was only a matter of time.
