Chapter 34 Is Your Period Supposed to End?
"Job?" Cathy shook her head. "You haven't passed my assessment yet, so you're not part of my team. I won't assign you any tasks."
After a pause, she continued, "Of course, if you insist on doing something, you can do odd jobs… If you don't mind."
"I do mind!" Evelyn directly refused. "I'm a perfumer. I know what I should and shouldn't do. Doing odd jobs is not demeaning, but it's not the kind of work I should be doing."
Evelyn smiled. "Well, since Ms. White needs three days to come up with the assessment content and there are no temporary assignments for me, I will wait for your message.
"Furthermore, if three days pass and Ms. White still hasn't come up with suitable assessment content for me, I will take it as confirmation of passing your assessment and officially joining the project department."
Cathy didn't expect Evelyn to be so bold.
Initially, Cathy had intended to challenge Evelyn's pride, assuming that Evelyn would be motivated to excel and perhaps even take on odd jobs. However, she was surprised when Evelyn firmly declined.
A perfumer's hands and nose were crucial and required protection, and now Evelyn found herself in need of Cathy's assistance. Despite this, Cathy hadn't anticipated Evelyn holding onto her pride.
Cathy felt angry but changed her impression of Evelyn.
…
When Evelyn left the company, many people watched her.
The employees outside were unaware of Evelyn and Cathy's discussion. When Evelyn left the company immediately, they assumed no consensus had been reached between her and Cathy.
Soon, rumors of Evelyn being fired started to circulate.
Of course, Evelyn didn't care about all this. She wanted to use these three days to solve the problem with Liam.
However, as soon as Evelyn got in the car, she received a call from an unknown number.
"Hello, may I ask if you are Evelyn Taylor?" The voice on the other end was unfamiliar but polite.
Evelyn paused and nodded. "Yes, it's me. Who is this?"
Hello, I am the legal representative for Liavian Perfumes, handling the case concerning the theft of confidential information on behalf of Mr. Liam Scott. I believe you have already received the lawyer's letter I sent before, right?"
Although the lawyer was polite, Evelyn knew that every word he said was an attack on her.
Startled for a moment, Evelyn burst into laughter. 'Stealing?' she thought. 'Ha! Liam is now using that word directly. He used to be more tactful, but now he's convinced that I am a thief.'
"Ms. Taylor, as the legal representative for Liavian Perfumes, I must point out that the current evidence is strongly against you. You have little chance of winning. In the spirit of humanitarian principles, may I ask if you would prefer to settle this matter privately or publicly?"
Curiously, Evelyn asked, "What does resolving it privately mean? And what does resolving it publicly mean?"
Taking a bottle of water from the side, Evelyn unscrewed the cap and took a sip.
"Resolving it privately means you just need to issue an apology statement. We will prepare the statement for you, so you just need to sign it.
"Additionally, you will have to publicly apologize to Mr. Scott and Ms. Reed for one week and not seek employment in similar industries for three years. Resolving it publicly means we will only meet in court."
When Evelyn's lips left the bottle, they made a crisp sound. She closed the cap and decisively said, "I choose to resolve it publicly!"
It seemed that the lawyer didn't expect Evelyn to choose the most unlikely option without hesitation. He immediately added, "Ms. Taylor, I don't think you have understood the consequences of going through the legal process.
"If you lose the case, besides apologizing, you will have to pay the compensation we demand and may even go to prison. I advise you to think it over. Mr. Scott only asks for an apology—"
"Tell Liam to stop dreaming. Otherwise, he'll end up being foolish!" Evelyn interrupted the lawyer and said, "Also, you mentioned 'if' I lose the case, but I don't believe in that 'if.' See you in court!"
After saying that, Evelyn hung up the phone.
Evelyn found it amusing!
She thought, 'Is Liam so confident? Does he really think that those documents and so-called witnesses can hold me down in the dust?
'I have been willingly staying in the dust for years, looking up to him and being his stepping stone to help him climb higher. But now I am standing up, so I will never be humble again.'
…
Evelyn drove straight home, not expecting Samuel to be there since she assumed he would still be at the office.
Samuel appeared to have just arrived, having recently removed his coat. He wore a shirt, his tie carelessly discarded, and he unbuttoned the top button, exposing his alluring Adam's apple. Reclining on the couch, Samuel furrowed his brow, gaze fixed on his tablet.
"Why are you home so early today?" Evelyn, standing at the doorway, bent down to take out her slippers and put them on. "You haven't eaten, right? I'll cook."
Evelyn intended to head to the kitchen, but Samuel reached out to stop her. "Don't go to the kitchen first. Come here."
Evelyn, her sleeves rolled up, glanced over and noticed Samuel's frown. Concerned, she turned back and asked, "What's wrong? Is there an issue at the company?"
"Do I look like I have a problem?" Samuel looked at Evelyn dissatisfied with her question.
Since managing the Seraphian Group, Samuel had encountered problems. But for him, those were not considered problems because he could solve them all. He had enough capital and confidence to be proud of.
Evelyn chuckled lightly and sat next to him. Holding onto his neck with her arm, Evelyn sweetly said, "Yes, Mr. Whitman is the most capable. There's nothing that can stump you!"
Evelyn laughed happily and got closer to Samuel
Suddenly, Samuel became excited and leaned in until their lips were almost touching. "Is that so? How capable am I?"
Samuel and Evelyn were so close that she could hear his breath. Evelyn immediately blushed and wanted to push him away. "How should I know?"
"Don't you know? Then why did you say I'm capable? Do I need to prove it?"
Men never easily pushed away a woman who initiated closeness.
Reaching out to hold Evelyn's waist, Samuel held her tightly in his arms. "Shouldn't your period be over by now?"
Because of the too obvious sexual innuendo, Evelyn wished she could immediately disappear. It was still daytime, so Evelyn shyly dared not look at Samuel. "N-No."
Evelyn stammered out of shyness!
Evelyn heard a very faint sigh from him. Her face became even redder. "What were you looking at just now?"
"Some boring stuff," Samuel remarked casually. He made a motion to flip the tablet over, but Evelyn had already glimpsed the words on the screen.
