Chapter 150 A Bold Attempt

"In consideration of your recent surgery and low spirits, I won't argue with you," Liam turned the wheelchair in a different direction and said, "I also need to go back to rest. I'll arrange for someone to take care of you here. As for your plans, let's discuss them after you're discharged."

Given the current situation, there was little left to say. Besides Evelyn, Liam also needed to consider maximizing the company's interests. Allowing Vivian to occupy the position for a long time was indeed inappropriate.

Upon returning home, Evelyn quickly took a shower, feeling that luck was not on her side today.

Vivian naturally posed no threat to Evelyn, but the whole situation was quite annoying. Evelyn never expected Vivian to stoop so low as to use her unborn child to set traps. Vivian was far more ruthless than Evelyn had imagined.

After showering, Evelyn noticed a missed call on her phone. It was from "Temperamental Artisan."

Evelyn smiled, thinking that there must be something pleasing coming her way.

She called back and waited for a while, and finally, someone answered with a low voice, "Hello?"

"It's not good to skip work without notice. Aren't you afraid of getting fired by the boss?" Evelyn teased.

Considering Alex's previous demeanor, Evelyn thought he was quite afraid of the boss and that there must be a reason for his not showing up for work.

However, Alex, usually irritable, didn't seem to be in a joking mood today. His voice remained low as he said, "I don't intend to work anymore. Find someone else."

"What do you mean by that?" Evelyn was surprised. "You agreed to it. Is it about the pay? Or is there another issue?"

"It's nothing. I don't want to do it. Find someone else," Alex replied.

"What do you mean by this?" Evelyn was getting a bit angry. "Do you understand the concept of commitment? If you agreed to it, what does backing out mean?"

After a pause, Evelyn asked, "Are you facing any difficulties?"

"No," he paused for a moment and added, "I'm sorry."

Then he quickly hung up the phone. When Evelyn tried calling back, there was no answer at all.

Evelyn was so frustrating!

What a day it had been. Everything seemed to be going wrong, and Evelyn was feeling extremely agitated.

Feeling particularly irritable, Evelyn needed an outlet. She changed her clothes and headed straight to the laboratory, where she immersed herself in work.

Since the start of the new project, Evelyn had her separate lab. Usually, it was just Evelyn and Laura working inside. With the recent success of the latest product, Evelyn and Laura took some time off, and the lab had been locked. Now that Evelyn had entered and closed the door from the inside, others were left puzzled about what was happening inside.

Soon, Cathy received a message and hurried over. Standing outside the door, she knocked and called out, "Evelyn, it's Cathy."

There was no response from inside, but the sound of equipment clashing could be faintly heard.

Was she experimenting? But Cathy hadn't heard anything about Evelyn planning a new product recently.

"Evelyn, are you working on a new product? Do you need any help from others? Should I call Laura?" Cathy asked after knocking on the door.

But it seemed like Evelyn didn't hear Cathy. People outside frowned. "Surely nothing untoward will occur?"

"What are you saying? Evelyn is working on a new product. Have you all finished your tasks for this quarter? Have you each completed at least one new product, and are they all ready for approval?" Cathy asserted her managerial authority, which was quite intimidating.

After the reprimand, the others obediently returned to the lab to continue their work.

Standing outside, Cathy was still worried. She called Laura, "Has Evelyn mentioned anything about working on a new product?"

"No. What's going on?" Laura, who had just returned from the hospital and was busy cleaning and cooking, couldn't hear clearly over the loud vacuum cleaner noise.

"Evelyn went back to the lab alone. She's not responding to me, and I feel like something's not right. I'm a bit worried," Cathy explained.

Upon hearing this, Laura was taken aback. She quickly turned off the vacuum cleaner and said, "Could it be related to today's events? But Evelyn seemed fine when she left."

Cathy sensed that something was amiss. "What happened today?"

"It's hard to explain in a few words. Evelyn is in the lab, right? I'll go check on her." Laura quickly put down what she was holding, took off her apron, washed her hands, and hurried to the lab.

With Evelyn not responding or coming out, Cathy had no choice but to sit on the sofa outside the lab.

As the end of the workday approached, people started leaving one by one. Cathy sat there for about an hour, and then Laura arrived, panting.

"Is Evelyn still inside?" Laura asked.

Cathy pointed towards the lab, and Laura nodded, rushing over to knock on the door. "Evelyn, it's Laura. Open the door. What are you doing? Can I help?"

"Evelyn..."

Before Laura could finish speaking, the lab door opened from the inside, and a pungent smell rushed out.

Laura was the first to be hit by the smell. She paused for a moment, then started coughing uncontrollably, finding it hard to stop.

Hearing the commotion, Cathy looked up and was overwhelmed by the unusually strong smell, which caused her to cough continuously. "What's going on, Evelyn?"

Both Cathy and Laura were coughing, but Evelyn didn't seem to have much of a reaction. She just looked at Cathy and Laura and asked, "Did you call me just now?"

Not only did they call Evelyn together just now, but Cathy and Laura also separately called out to Evelyn many times. However, Evelyn didn't actually hear them.

Even if they wanted to speak, Cathy and Laura coughed incessantly, making it impossible for them to communicate face-to-face.

"Sorry, I forgot to turn on the ventilation fan," Evelyn said, moving aside and turning on the fan in the room. As the air circulated, the smell dissipated quickly.

Once they had calmed down, Laura wiped her tears and asked, "What are you doing, Evelyn? Why is the smell so strong?"

"It's nothing. I wanted to experiment and see what effect mixing some of the most intense scents would have," Evelyn replied.

When she arrived, Evelyn was feeling down and did not have any particular thoughts. She just felt extremely uncomfortable due to the events of the day, which left her feeling uneasy.

Evelyn thought, 'What would happen if I mixed all the discomforting things?'

Sometimes, bold experiments were necessary in perfumery. Evelyn closed the door, fully immersed in her work, paying no attention to what was happening outside.

"The effect could be deadly!" Cathy, still recovering, coughed and said, "Your idea is quite bold."

"I actually think the effect won't be too bad. I've kept a few samples to see the results later," Evelyn said, taking off her gloves with a serious expression.
