Chapter 113 Admitting Proactively

Laura didn't think of it for a moment, got up to throw the trash into the garbage can, and walked in front of Evelyn, still trying to recall.

She just felt that this name was too familiar. Since it was so familiar, she should have known it, but suddenly, she couldn't remember it.

Watching her pondering look, Evelyn paused for a moment, raised her hand, and patted her shoulder. "It's Samuel Whitman."

"Oh... right! Now that you mention it, it's Samuel Whitman..."

The word behind got stuck in her throat. She looked at Evelyn in shock, her eyes full of disbelief.

Evelyn was not surprised at her reaction at all; it was entirely expected.

Reflecting on it now, she found herself marveling at her own audacity. It astounded her that Samuel had indeed accepted her 'proposal'.

Even to this day, she couldn't completely figure out why he agreed and helped her like this, but one thing was certain that today, her title as "Mrs. Whitman" was not fake.

"Seraphian Group? Samuel Whitman?" Laura gulped, then managed to finish her sentence. This news and this identity, had indeed brought her immense shock.

She only knew that Evelyn had found a new boyfriend, but she had no idea that this new boyfriend's identity was so shocking.

"Evelyn, you... are you his mistress?" Laura stared at her intently, blurting out.

Evelyn fell into silence.

Evelyn raised her hand and patted Laura, making it clear what she was implying. "What are you thinking? What do you think he is!"

"Ouch! I misspoke. Don't be angry; I'm sorry!" Laura winced in pain, quickly apologizing as she held her arm. "I'm just too surprised! Seraphian Group's Samuel Whitman, he's like a diamond, no, a most eligible bachelor. How could it be him?"

"Evelyn, is what you said true? Is he your boyfriend? Are you really dating?"

Laura wasn't being overly nosy or looking down on Evelyn; it just took some time to digest the information.

Samuel Whitman was a figure almost living in legend. Evelyn never thought she would have any relationship with such a person in her lifetime, but now, Evelyn told her that he was her boyfriend!

Evelyn originally didn't plan to reveal this, but today's little incident unexpectedly made Laura see it. Even if she didn't say it now, who knew when she would remember "who Samuel is?" By then, it might be more troublesome.

It was better to admit it proactively. Laura was trustworthy. She wouldn't spread it around.

"Yeah." Laura nodded.

"But don't tell anyone about this. We don't plan to make it public," Evelyn said.

"Ok." Laura was about to agree readily, but upon hearing the latter part, she couldn't help but ask, "Why?! Aren't you two in a normal relationship? Why not make it public? Does he refuse to acknowledge you? Is he serious about you? Is it him who doesn't want it public?"

A barrage of questions left Evelyn's head spinning. She really regretted not changing his contact name, never expecting Laura to find out!

However, with just Laura reacting this strongly, who had been by her side for years, the explosiveness of this news, if others found out, would be unimaginable.

It further proved that her relationship with Samuel couldn't be made public for now.

"No!" Evelyn held Laura's shoulders, patiently explaining, "You know the special status of him. Given my current status, the impact of going public would be significant. You see, you're already finding it hard to accept, let alone others. Dealing with all the gossip and news would be overwhelming, and I wouldn't have time or energy to do what I want."

"I'm not finding it hard to accept. I just didn't expect..." Laura hurried to explain. How could she not accept it? If it were true, and if Evelyn could find happiness, Laura would be thrilled.

"I understand, but others won't think like you," Evelyn interrupted her, "You know who he is. If it goes public, the consequences would be severe. Before that, I want to work harder, stand a bit higher, at least on a level similar to his."

Listening to her explanation, Laura finally understood, nodding slowly. "Evelyn, I believe in you. You have the ability!"

"Mm-hmm." Patting her shoulder, Evelyn turned to check the experiment results.

The computer beeped, the data results printed out, and a faint fragrance filled the entire laboratory.

The scent permeating the air was a joyful signal of success.

Bending down, Evenly focused on the data on the computer screen, studying it carefully. Laura went to examine a few samples attentively. Both were fully engrossed in their work.

After a moment—

"We did it! We did it!"

Laura exclaimed excitedly, "Evelyn, we did it!"

"Yes! The data results meet the requirements, and the fragrance at each stage is exactly what I wanted. We did it, we really did it!" Evelyn was also delighted; her inner emotions were beyond words compared to Laura's excitement.

This was the first new perfume Evelyn had developed and formulated after leaving Liavian Perfumes, and it was a bold attempt. She had a feeling that this perfume would shine bright at this year's annual competition.

"Fantastic! All the hard work these days finally paid off!"

"Pack up the samples, organize the experimental data, and put them in the filing cabinet. We can call it a day!"

Checking the time, even though it was already early morning, going back now was still feasible.

"Alright, I'll do it right away!" Laura was efficient at work, skillfully packaging and storing everything, taking extra care to ensure nothing went wrong.

Standing up, Evelyn shut down the other power sources in the lab and washed her hands. When she came out, Laura had already tidied everything up.

Both saw the uncontainable joy on each other's faces, a sense of victory from working side by side.

Walking towards the elevator with Evelyn, Laura checked her phone for a ride-sharing app. "It's late, and I don't know if we can get a ride. Let's share one for safety and money. What do you think?"
