Chapter 75 Men Talk Casually
"Really?" Cathy asked, her voice filled with doubt.
Evelyn took a deep breath and pushed her reassuringly. "Sure, That's the way!"
"I hadn't realized you were so curious before. I prefer the aloof and irritable version of you. Hurry off to take a shower now, as I have yet to wash after you!" Cathy said.
"That's just your guilty conscience speaking!" Evelyn waved her hand. "Forget it, I won't argue with you."
Evelyn turned to take a shower.
Evelyn was speechless.
She breathed a sigh of relief. She had managed to deceive Cathy, but it also meant that she had to be more careful during Samuel's stay to avoid being caught.
Thinking of him, she quickly checked her phone and saw a message from him.
Samuel: [1808.]
Obviously, it was the room number.
She couldn't help but smile and sent a received emoji, then started to clean up the table.
After tidying up and preparing her clothes, she saw Cathy open the door with wet hair. "I'm done. You can go now."
"Okay," she replied and walked towards the bathroom, then she remembered something. "You must be tired today. You don't have to wait for me. You can go to sleep."
"I won't wait for you. I don't need you to warm my bed!" Cathy said as she dried her hair with a towel.
Evelyn was speechless.
It was almost midnight, and Vivian was still awake.
Although she was lying in bed, her eyes were wide open, and her mind was filled with Rosen's words.
Tonight, after tonight...
Tonight was so difficult. If only it were already morning, and she didn't have to make a choice!
But the night was long. If she missed this opportunity, would she still have a chance for a successful future?
She had been unable to sleep all along, so she decided to pick up her phone from beside the pillow. The screen lit up, but there was no sign of activity from Rosen's end, not even a single message.
He was too patient and understood her too well. He had hit her weak spot, knowing what she wanted, and all he had to do was wait for her to come to him.
She knew it was like walking into an abyss, but she couldn't resist the temptation deep within her.
After hesitating for a long time, she dialed Liam's number.
It rang for a while before he answered, his voice a little muffled. "Vivian, what's wrong?"
"I can't sleep," she said softly, biting her lip.
"Why can't you sleep? Is something wrong? Is the baby bothering you?" Liam asked with concern.
"It's nothing serious. I just can't fall asleep. Maybe I miss you," she said in a soft, timid voice, trying to pull herself together. "Liam, can you come and keep me company?"
"Okay, I'll finish up here and come over to be with you," Liam quickly replied. He had said that all the time.
However, because he answered so quickly, it seemed completely insincere.
Vivian was a little upset. "When will you be done? By the time you're finished, everything will be over here! Can't you come right away? Tomorrow, now! Does it take a long time to book a flight? It's only a two hours' flight. Can't you come and be with me?"
"Vivian, don't be silly! You know what's going on over here. Everything is back on track, and we'll be able to get back on our feet soon. The factory has so many orders, but we're just eating into our reserves. It won't work without new products. By the way, have you found any talent over there?" Liam's mind was all about business and profit, and he was concerned about recruiting talent.
"No!" she said, a little annoyed, "You only care about talent. I'm having a tough time here, and I don't have the energy to help you find talent. It's not easy to find talent these days."
Liam patiently said, "It's not easy to find talent, and that's exactly what makes them talented! What we lack most now is an excellent perfumer. If we can't keep up in this area, we'll be powerless in the future!"
"Liam! Do you have anything in your heart besides talent and business? You don't care if I'm being bullied here. You know Evelyn is here, but you don't care about me. Do you know how embarrassed I was at the tasting today? I almost couldn't get off the stage!"
All the grievances erupted at this moment. She was not happy today. Now, instead of showing her some care, he was talking about business non-stop as if there was nothing but business between them!
It wasn't like this before. He used to be romantic, giving her little surprises from time to time, accompanying her whenever she went out to events, and flying all the way to kiss her. However, now, he didn't even bother to make a phone call.
After being scolded, Liam was silent for a while. "What happened at the tasting? What did Evelyn do to you?"
"Do you still care about that?"
She sat up, one hand covering half of her face. Vivian sobbed softly, "Liam, I'm asking you, can you still do what you promised me before?"
"What?" For a moment, he didn't understand what she meant.
"You've forgotten what you promised, haven't you? Sure enough, you didn't care at all. Men tend to make offhanded promises. You're just pacifying me. I really thought you were sincere!"
Back then, he said things like letting her be a full-time housewife, letting her enjoy life without hardship, and escorting her to the hall of honor. Now, he was asking her what he had promised, and he didn't even remember what he said. How could he possibly do it?
"No, Vivian. I..." Liam didn't understand what she was talking about at all. What had he promised? Could he still do what?
"I'm tired. I want to sleep." Vivian took a deep breath, her expression becoming increasingly indifferent.
"Vivian, I know you're not in a good mood, but you have to understand me too. It's different now from before. Before, there was Evelyn helping out, and I didn't have to worry about new products at all, but now we have to rely on ourselves." He paused and muttered softly, "Actually, if you can come up with some new products..."
"So, is it my fault?" Vivian became angry, clutching the blanket with one hand. "It's my fault that I'm useless, incapable and not as talented as Evelyn, right? Mr. Scott!"
"No, Vivian. That's not what I meant!" He knew he had said the wrong thing and quickly changed his tune.
"Liam, if she's so good, go find her!"
After saying that, Vivian angrily hung up the phone!
