Chapter 130 He Was Too Good
Kyle nodded. "Yes."
"Thank you!" Evelyn sincerely thanked him, while Samuel, beside her, felt jealous. "You only said thank you to him?"
"You are my husband! I don't have to say thanks to you." Before Samuel could speak, Evelyn said again, "You said it."
Samuel fell silent.
Well, Samuel did say that, and now it turned to reality.
Kyle, on the side, looked surprised to see Samuel being speechless and unable to retort. It seemed that only in Evelyn's presence would Samuel feel so helpless.
"I might be a bit late today. Give me a call if you need me," Samuel said as he put on his coat.
"Okay!" Evelyn tiptoed to help Samuel adjust his shirt collar, then remembered the upcoming trip. "By the way, about the trip we mentioned before, do you have any thoughts on the destination? Have you decided where to go?"
"Not yet, why?"
"If not, Laura has a few recommendations. Since you're so busy, why don't we plan it ourselves?"
Since Evelyn, Cathy, and Laura were going on this trip, they wanted to decide on the destination and itinerary themselves.
Samuel nodded. "Sure."
"You're the best!" Evelyn leaned over and kissed Samuel on the cheek softly, her voice tender.
Samuel, receiving the kiss, smiled, "If I knew you're so easy to please, I should arrange a trip for you every month."
"Great!" Evelyn accepted happily. "But you should head to the office now, or you'll be late for the first meeting!"
She pushed Samuel lightly and saw him off, watching the car drive away before turning back inside.
Since Samuel had agreed, the next step was to communicate with Laura and Cathy.
While watching the daily news on TV, Evelyn called Laura, "Laura, it was you who took me home yesterday, right?"
"You still remember!" Laura teased Evelyn. "I thought you'd forgotten; you were so drunk."
Evelyn didn't remember much. She needed to reflect on that and not drink so much in the future.
Evelyn rarely drank and didn't know her tolerance, so she was surprised to hear about her behavior. "So, did I go crazy after drinking too much?"
"Yes! You talked a lot, annoyingly so! You didn't want to go home and insisted on drinking more!"
Evelyn was astonished, her mouth agape. She wondered that if she was really like that?
"Really?"
"Of course not! Just kidding!" Laura laughed. "Luckily, after you drank, you fell asleep. I asked you which building you lived in at Emberwood Residence, but you couldn't remember. Without a key card, I couldn't get in. Fortunately, I met Mr. Whitman..."
Pausing for a moment, Laura continued, "Oh, I told Cathy yesterday that you lived near Emberwood Residence at Lakeview Garden Community. You almost gave yourself away. Remember this, and don't let it slip!"
Evelyn fell silent. She thought, 'Drinking really caused trouble!'
"Laura, thank you!"
"Why thank me? It's what friends do! But I didn't expect you'd already be living with Mr. Whitman. Things are moving fast!" Laura was tidynig up the room, folding clothes. She held the phone between her shoulder and ear, slightly tilting her head as she spoke.
"Yes." Evelyn thought, 'If Laura knew that I and Samuel had already gotten married and had done so a while ago, would she be shocked?'
"Evelyn, don't take this the wrong way. I might say something you won't like. While Mr. Whitman undeniably possesses charm and charisma in abundance, it is crucial to exercise caution. I am not suggesting that Mr. Whitman lacks merit; rather, he exudes an overwhelming allure that requires careful consideration, do you comprehend my point?"
Laura was well aware that these words may come across as unpleasant, yet it seemed that well-intentioned words usually bore a harsh edge.
In Laura's eyes, Evelyn possessed many admirable qualities, albeit showing a tendency to lose herself in love. She had, in the past, dedicated herself wholeheartedly to Liam, only to face a regrettable outcome in the end.
Now, she was eith Samuel, whose attributes far exceeded. If they were to sustain a lasting bond, it would undeniably be optimal. However, what if that proved unattainable?
The world of the high society was not as facile as it seemed; many who married into such circles ultimately met tragic fates. She wished for Evelyn's happiness, fervently hoping that she would not meet a similar downfall in the days ahead.
"I understand." Evelyn nodded, recognizing Laura's well-meaning intentions.
"No, you don't," Laura replied.
"Mr. Whitman is wealthy, attractive, and single. He mingles with many beautiful people in his circles. Evelyn, I'm not saying things won't work out between you and Mr. Whitman, but you should secure your future. You should think more about yourself." Laura's thoughts became a bit messy towards the end. "Forget it. I don't even know what I'm saying."
Evelyn laughed. "I know you mean well, Laura! How come I never noticed how chatty you are? By the way, when Kyle drove you home, did you chatter with him all the way?"
Consider Kyle's somber demeanor, the scene would indeed acquire a humorous tinge if Laura persisted in engaging him in conversation.
"I'm being serious with you, and you're joking with me! Enough!" Thinking about Kyle, Laura blushed unintentionally. Apart from the initial misunderstanding when they first met, Kyle seemed quite reliable and steady.
At least for Laura, a man like Kyle was more reliable than Samuel, providing a sense of security!
As Laura pondered this, she suddenly snapped out of her thoughts, shaking her head and patting her cheeks. She thought, 'Oh my! What am I even contemplating? I juxtaposed Kyle and Samuel merely for the sake of comparison and a sense of security as if selecting a romantic partner!'
"Laura, Laura?" Not hearing Laura's response, Evelyn called out several times.
"I'm here, what's up?"
"What are you doing?" Evelyn only heard the sound of Laura patting her cheeks and was clueless about what was happening.
"Nothing, just a mosquito. I'm swatting it. What were you saying?"
"A mosquito?!" Evelyn was really skeptical about the appearance of mosquitoes at this time of year.
But without dwelling on it, Evelyn continued their previous conversation. "About the trip, you mentioned you have ideas about it, right? Samuel is fine that we arrange it on our own. When are you free to meet and discuss?"
"I'm free anytime. How about today?"
"Sounds good. I'll... " Evelyn was about to suggest a place to meet later and to discuss the trip, but a breaking news report on TV caught her attention.
"Early this morning, a major accident occurred on one of our city's main roads. A white Mercedes lost control, crashed into three road pillars, then hit a large tree by the roadside. The injured have been rushed to the hospital for treatment. It's reported that the injured party is Liam Scott, CEO of Liavian Perfumes. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Stay tuned for more updates from our station."
