Chapter 164 Delicious Dinner
Samuel was right. At this hour, Evelyn was indeed ready to have dinner.
Originally, it was just going to be a casual bite, but Samuel's recommendation piqued Evelyn's interest.
For Evelyn, besides creating fragrances, enjoying good food was another source of joy in life.
Evelyn had initially planned to bring Olivia along. She had even reached Olivia's doorstep, but considering Olivia's tendency to chatter incessantly, Evelyn changed her mind. She decided to go out to dinner alone, pack some food, and bring it for Olivia.
Evelyn hailed a taxi and casually mentioned one of the restaurants Samuel had recommended.
Being fluent in French, Evelyn found communication relatively easy even when alone in this foreign place. However, very few people were aware of this, including Liam, who probably didn't know about Evelyn's proficiency in different languages.
Evelyn was driven by her interests and had a quick grasp of learning. So, she pursued learning these languages and found it convenient to browse through foreign fragrance materials or spice histories. It was a practical skill for Evelyn, so she acquired it without boasting or making a big deal out of it.
Dining alone felt like a solitary journey, both liberating and lonely at the same time.
Savoring a glass of rich red wine, Evelyn found herself missing Samuel even more.
"Hey, Evelyn!" A familiar voice came, followed by a cheerful figure appearing in front of Evelyn. "What a coincidence! I always knew we had a lot of serendipitous encounters! Are you here for dinner, too?"
Evelyn was surprised to run into Lisa so soon after parting ways. It truly felt like a stroke of luck.
"Yeah, a friend recommended this place, so I came to give it a try." Evelyn nodded.
"This place is definitely great!" Lisa said proudly, "Have you tried it? How's the taste?"
"It's good," Evelyn replied, ordering the restaurant's signature dish. While the food was delicious, Evelyn still preferred the cuisine back home.
Seeing Evelyn, Lisa was delighted and kept chatting softly by her side, "I didn't expect to see you so soon. I thought I'd only see you tomorrow. Are you alone? Aren't you here on behalf of the company? Don't you have an assistant or someone accompanying you?"
Thinking about Olivia's left back at the hotel, Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "She's resting at the hotel," she replied, imagining Olivia fretting over tomorrow's competition.
"That assistant of yours is not very dedicated! An assistant should take care of you. They shouldn't leave you alone to rest and have dinner by yourself!" Lisa disapproved.
"I asked her to rest," Evelyn confessed frankly, pointing to her ear, "I just wanted some quiet time alone."
Lisa chuckled, understanding Evelyn's need for solitude, and joined in the laughter. But soon, Lisa's smile faded. "Am I disturbing you?"
"No. It's been a while since we last met. I'm happy to see you," Evelyn said with a smile, "Are you alone, too?"
As if suddenly remembering something, Lisa exclaimed, "Oh no! I forgot I had an appointment with someone!"
Glancing inside, she continued, "I'll head in first. Let's catch up when we have time."
"Sure," Evelyn replied cheerfully.
Lisa walked past Evelyn towards a woman named Avery Johnson, sitting across from a boy named Ethan Parker, who looked about five or six years old. Ethan was eating with a knife and fork, displaying a gentlemanly demeanor and a cute appearance.
Noticing Evelyn looking at him, Ethan glanced back and shyly smiled at her, appearing both bashful and charming. Evelyn instantly took a liking to him.
Seeing Ethan, Evelyn suddenly recalled something Samuel had mentioned before, 'Children are indeed adorable. '
When she brought back those carved wooden figurines, Samuel thought Evelyn wanted children and even mentioned that having a boy and a girl would be great. At that time, Evelyn had scolded Samuel for talking nonsense. But now, upon reflection, Evelyn imagined that children with Samuel would indeed be lovely.
Unconsciously smiling, Evelyn turned to take a photo of her food with her phone and sent it to Samuel, adding the caption: [Delicious dinner.]
Considering the time zone difference, it was probably late where he was. Perhaps he was already asleep.
She didn't necessarily expect a reply from Samuel; she just wanted to reach out to him, finding solace in the act.
To her surprise, Samuel replied shortly after, sending a photo back with the caption: [It is mine.]
Evelyn was astonished, thinking, 'He is becoming more and more endearing.'
What was even more outrageous was that Samuel sent photos of delicious food that Evelyn loved. Suddenly, the creamy mushroom soup in front of her didn't seem as appetizing.
Pursing her lips, Evelyn held her phone with both hands and messaged Samuel: [Eating alone late at night will make you gain weight.]
Samuel replied nonchalantly: [I do not care about it]
Evelyn quickly responded: [If you get fat, I'll divorce.]
Samuel replied, unfazed: [I'm already married, and there is no support for divorce.]
This was a blatant provocation!
'Is Samuel feeling invincible?' Evelyn pondered, about to send another message, when a loud thud followed by screams, crashing dishes, and tables being pushed startled everyone. Some even stood up nearby.
Taken aback, Evelyn turned around in surprise and saw Lisa!
Hurrying over, Evelyn saw Lisa looking scared and anxious with red eyes. "What's happening? How did this happen?"
"Lisa?" Evelyn called out, then looked down to see Ethan, the boy who had been smiling at her earlier, now convulsing on the floor. He was curled up, pale, breathing rapidly, eyes rolling back dangerously. The restaurant staff were in a panic, forming a circle around him. Some managed to keep their composure and were already calling for an ambulance.
"Evelyn, Ethan..." Lisa was on the verge of tears.
Avery, who was half-kneeling beside Ethan, was already crying heavily, calling out in distress. It seemed like she was Ethan's mother.
"I'll take a look!" Without hesitation, Evelyn knelt to check on Ethan.
