Chapter 66 Only Interests Are Eternal.

Liam knew what was on her mind, and he smiled smugly.

Liam said, "Don't believe me? You can go back to the lab or ask someone else. Laura, don't be foolish! The weak can't stand against the strong. Do you think Evelyn can really offer you anything?

Liam continued, "She's gone and living it up now. Has she ever cared about you? Do you know she flies first class now, with a Rolls-Royce picking her up?"

Liam added, "But what about you? You can only afford to rent a place with your mom. How long can you sustain your current lifestyle with your salary? A year, two years, or just a few months? Have you thought about that?

"You still have two years left on your contract. Until it's up, I'll make sure you can't leave. If you resign, I won't approve it. But if you insist, you can pay the penalty! Laura, can you afford that?"

He leaned back and exuded confidence. He seemed assured of success.

Laura's head drooped, and she fell silent.

Liam felt he had hit a nerve, and his smile deepened.

"Laura, I've been quite lenient with you. Think about it, no one can tolerate your recent behavior. And what are you making a fuss about? Between Evelyn and me is a private matter; it has nothing to do with you. Was it necessary for you to get involved?" Liam questioned.

He leaned forward and placed an envelope on the table.

"Consider this your recent hard work. Take it, clear your mind, and come back to work. The company won't hold any grudges," Liam suggested.

"Mr. Scott," Laura said as she raised her head slowly and held the envelope.

Laura replied, "I will do my job, but I can't take the money."

She pushed the envelope back.

Liam's smile froze, and his eyes darkened. "What do you mean?" he asked.

Laura answered, "Since Mr. Scott has made it clear, I might as well be frank. I can't afford the penalty, so we'll have to continue like this. Yes, you're wealthy, and I can't outlast you."

She added, "But if you don't pay my salary as usual, I will report you for malicious withholding. If you find that interesting, then let's continue like this!" With that, she stood up to leave.

Liam was stunned for a moment, then quickly turned around. "Why are you doing this?" he asked her.

Laura stopped, and replied, "You've only known Evelyn for a short time. How well do you really know her? I've been classmates with her for so many years, and I know her better than you. What has she done for you? Is it worth it?"

His eyes were full of contempt. Friendship and loyalty were just foolishness! In this world, only self-interest is eternal!

"It doesn't matter how she repays me. What's important is how you repay her," Laura remarked, turned around, and looked at him.

"Others may not know, but we both do. How much has Evelyn done for you, and what has she gained? You defamed her and took away her hard work and efforts. Why should I go to such lengths for someone like you?" Laura stated as she looked down at him.

Liam could see it in her eyes. And her disdain fueled his anger.

"Fine! Since you value loyalty so much, let's wait and see!" he said, pushed her aside, and walked away.

Laura stumbled, but she quickly regained her balance by holding onto the nearby railing. The reason she agreed to go back to work was that Liam was right about one thing - she couldn't afford to lose her job.

If Liavian Perfumes couldn't survive this crisis, her contract with them would naturally end. But Liam made it clear that he would be so domineering once the problem was resolved.

If she continued to cause trouble, she would only face more days without a salary. Rent, utilities, and daily expenses all required money, and life without it was truly difficult.

If she went back to work and Liam still withheld her salary, she could sue him. Besides, she also wanted to see how they would solve this problem.

She knew those people at Liavian Perfumes very well. If they had the ability, things wouldn't have been so chaotic before, and Liam wouldn't have wanted to keep her.

Among the industry, there were relatively few people in this line of work, and even fewer were outstanding. That's why Liavian Perfumes relied so much on Evelyn.

Could Vivian really have such an ability?

At 6 p.m., at the Tedia Sands Hotel.

After Vivian finished her call with Liam, she cried for a while and then fell asleep. When she woke up, it was already past five o'clock.

Thinking about the evening event, she quickly got up to take a shower and dress up. She actually had a great advantage in terms of appearance, with a gentle and charming look.

In addition, she was good at using her advantages, which gave her a unique charm. That's why she could control Liam so tightly.

But after crying in the afternoon, her eyes were a little swollen now. She sighed and took out some eye shadow to cover it up. After some overall adjustments, it was not so obvious, and she looked radiant.

She reached for the lipstick and applied it to her lips after she put down the eye shadow. Just as she finished, her stomach suddenly churned, and she could barely control it. She quickly covered her mouth and rushed to the bathroom, where she vomited violently.

In fact, she didn't vomit much, mostly just some sour water, but her stomach was in turmoil.

After she recovered, she gently caressed her abdomen and became more certain of her guess that she might be pregnant.

She couldn't describe the feeling.

It wasn't exactly joy, but she didn't have a reason to be unhappy either. She was pregnant, and Liam would definitely marry her.

But why wasn't she feeling the expected joy? She had fantasized about it countless times, but now that it was really happening, she didn't feel much.

Evelyn didn't care at all! She had worked so hard and fought for so long, only to find that Evelyn's concern for Liam was not even as much as those awards.

And the experiences of these days made her feel more confused about the future. It seemed like a distant dream for Liam to climb up the social ladder.

In fact, she thought it was impossible. Was this life destined to be just a small and peaceful one?

Most importantly, how long could this small wealth and stability last? It couldn't withstand the test of time. She tightened her fingers on her abdomen, feeling a heavy heart.
