Chapter 115 This Flattery, Invincible!
Evelyn was caught off guard, and as the car happened to be turning, she stumbled into his arms.
Laura was speechless.
One hand on the handle, the other hand half covering her face. Laura thought, 'I didn't see anything. I didn't see anything at all.'
Evelyn's face flushed, and she gently pushed him to sit up, but Samuel took the opportunity to hold her waist, letting her lean against him without any room for negotiation.
"Is the new product successful?" he asked casually.
Sure enough, with Samuel's words, Evelyn's attention was successfully diverted, instantly excited when it came to her field. "Yes! I can't wait to tell you, it's a total success, The new product is exactly what I wanted, even better than I expected! It's really perfect!"
"That calls for a celebration," Samuel said.
"Yes, we should celebrate!" Thinking of this, Evelyn turned to Laura. "Laura, let's plan a time to go out for a nice meal. Maybe we can go back to that Kintonese cuisine place last time. I remember you really liked their food."
"Sure! Let's go to that..." Before she could finish, Laura felt an abnormal atmosphere. Just a slight glance from Samuel made her hair stand on end, so she quickly changed her tune. "Well, it's just okay! I don't mind."
"Okay? I remember you were full of praise! By the way, invite Cathy too. She's been working hard lately." After a moment of thought, Evelyn was almost ready to start planning.
"Sure." Resting her chin on her hand, Laura looked out the window, but even so, she could see Samuel's icy face reflected in the window.
Laura didn't expect Samuel to be so jealous, but... she's a woman! Did she have to endure his jealousy, too?
Laura was feeling like she was on pins and needles at the moment, but she couldn't ask the driver to stop now, so she had to endure and hope the car would go faster, even faster.
Thinking this, she placed her hopes on Kyle, who was controlling the steering wheel in front of her. From her perspective, Kyle was focused on driving, his profile firm and determined. Maybe due to the lighting, he didn't look as fierce.
"Why aren't you excited?" Evelyn frowned, feeling Laura's attitude towards her was cold.
"I see you're quite excited." Samuel lowered his head to look at her, increasing the pressure on her hand. "Tell me, who else do you want to celebrate with?"
"No one else. This new product was mainly developed by Laura and me. Cathy also put in a lot of effort, so we should invite her, as for others..."
Evenly wanted to say there was no one else, but after seeing the meaningful and threatening gaze from Samuel, she finally realized it belatedly.
"But..." She flashed a pleasing smile. "You can't !"
Samuel's face instantly darkened!
Especially with Kyle's light coughing from the front, Samuel's face turned even darker.
Laura covered her face with both hands, pretending to yawn, trying to control her urge to laugh. If people outside heard that Seraphian Group's president was refused by his girlfriend, who knew how it would spread and be written about?
Evelyn wasn't stupid either. She blurted it out, quickly realizing the ambiguity in her words. Immediately, she amended, "No, what I meant was, we are gathering in a public setting to celebrate. It wouldn't be appropriate to invite you as it might not be convenient for you to attend."
Samuel remained grim-faced, evidently displeased.
Evelyn continued to coax, "Of course, my success wouldn't be possible without your help. Your contribution is the greatest. You are the silent and nameless hero behind the scenes! To have your support and help is my greatest honor. I feel supremely proud of you!"
Samuel fell silent.
Laura fell silent.
Kyle kept coughing to ease the awkwardness.
If it weren't for the Samuel's presence, Laura really wanted to applaud Evelyn - this flattery was truly invincible!
But to be honest, this was the first time she had seen Evelyn like this. Before, Evelyn wasn't like this when she was with Liam. They didn't communicate much, and what they talked about was all about work. Occasionally, Liam would say a few nice things to please Evelyn, and she would act coy. However, It wasn't as natural, relaxed, and enjoyable as it was now.
Laura sneakily glanced over and saw Samuel's originally dark face now turning softened, with a suspicious hint of blush.
Hmm, who would have thought he could be coaxed into shyness?!
"Where did you learn to be so smooth-tongued?" Samuel raised his hand to pat her face, his voice softening. "Even if the new product passes the test, it will still take some time before it officially launches. I was thinking, since we want to rest and celebrate, why not go out for a walk? Consider it a relaxation."
"Go out for a walk? Where to?" Evelyn didn't have this idea.
After all these years, she had been repeating her routine of developing new products, succeeding, resting for two days, continuing with the next idea, collecting raw materials, experimenting, and then creating new products.
Her thoughts had been simple at that time. Taking advantage of her youth and inspiration, she wanted to develope more products, and even if some failed, there would still be successes. Liavian Perfumes could stabilize and grow because of her hard-work. She hoped she could ease Liam's stress, and when they got married, she wouldn't have to work so hard. She could slow down, do what she liked and wanted to do, and live a peaceful life.
Her thoughts were simple back then. She thought Liam and she were on the same page, never imagining she would become a tool for someone else's use.
"It remains to be decided; if you have any ideas or places you want to go, you can tell me, and I'll arrange it for you," Samuel said naturally.
Laura was a bit excited on the side. "We?"
"You don't want to go?"
Samuel nodded. "That's fine, whether you want to go or not, I respect personal choices. If you don't want to..."
"I want to, I really want to!" Laura nodded repeatedly, afraid her rights might be revoked.
Laura was ecstatic!
This was a treatment she hadn't enjoyed in all her years at Liavian Perfumes! She never thought she would one day travel for business, but even if it was just incidental, she was still very happy.

The car stopped, and Samuel glanced outside. "You've arrived."
"I see! Then I'll be on my way!" Laura looked outside, much more natural than when she first got in the car. "Thank you, Mr. Whitman."
Evelyn remarked, "... It's too dark outside. Let me walk you in."
