Chapter 25 Because you're my wife

"How did you come here?"

Evelyn was still very pleased to see him at this time.

Samuel glanced at her and considerately turned down the air conditioning in the back seat, then picked up a shawl and draped it over her. "Did you encounter any trouble?"

Judging from the time, she should have come out from this passage long ago. He was almost about to get off the car and check on her.

"It's just a small matter." She gestured with her fingers, indicating that it was not a big problem. But when she raised her hand, it tugged on something and she inadvertently took a breath.

Hearing her inhale, Samuel frowned and grabbed her hand. "Are you injured?"

His face was cold, and his voice even colder. Every muscle on his face indicated that he was very unhappy!

Evelyn hurriedly explained, "No, I'm fine. It's just that I haven't been active for a while and my muscles feel a bit sore."

Afraid that he wouldn't believe her, she turned sideways to face him. "If you don't believe me, look at where I'm injured."

Samuel stared at her, then suddenly reached out with his thumb and forefinger, lightly pinching both sides of her cheeks.

Evelyn froze.

He slightly lifted her chin, looked up and down her face, and then looked at her neck, collarbone, arms...

Samuel's eyes were like X-rays. After carefully examining her whole body, he nodded slightly. "Hmm!"

Evelyn's face suddenly turned hot.

He hadn't done anything excessive, yet she felt a warmth spread through her as his gaze lingered on her. Even in casual conversation, Samuel listened intently.

Evelyn's inner turmoil eased in an instant.

Truth be told, she couldn't help but feel troubled. Liam had been a familiar presence in her life for years, and in her mind, he had always been a kind and gentle soul. However, recent events had shaken her perception of him.

Liam not only deceived her but also framed her. Even after they completely explained the situation, he still tried to force her to do certain things.

She had completely given up on Liam, but this was a five-year-long relationship, and she couldn't just forget it so easily. Besides anger, she also felt some sadness and disappointment.

"You have to promise me one thing." Samuel's hand returned to her chin, his thumb gently caressing her lips.

"What?"

"No matter when, don't put yourself in danger."

As Samuel spoke, Evelyn suddenly felt a cold sensation on her wrist. Glancing down, she discovered a silver watch adorning it. Though small, the watch was exquisitely crafted, its hands moving steadily.

Evelyn wasn't used to wearing watches, and Samuel suddenly giving her one left her feeling surprised.

"This watch has GPS tracking and emergency calling functions. You have to wear it all the time."

Evelyn was startled for two seconds, then smiled and joked, "Are you going to monitor me?"
Of course, she knew that Samuel giving her this watch meant she could seek his help at any time. She couldn't help but be moved by his thoughtfulness.

Samuel held her hand with one hand, while the other hand remained on her red lips, whispering, "This isn't monitoring; it's real-time tracking."

Evelyn looked at his eyes, asking, "Why are you being so good to me?"

Although they hadn't been together for very long, Samuel was really good to her.

In the past few days, he had done things for her that Liam hadn't and couldn't do in all those years.

"Because you're my wife."

As Samuel finished speaking, he leaned in and pressed his lips against Evelyn's, kissing her gently.

Evelyn tilted her head back, meeting his kiss with a willing response. Though still a bit shy, she didn't pull away.

Samuel felt encouraged by her response, smiling with satisfaction as he deepened the kiss.

Liam felt very embarrassed when he returned home.

He never expected that one day he would have a dagger held to his throat, and the person doing it would be Evelyn!

Liam thought, 'How is her boxing technique so good? When did she practice? How much more do I not know about her?'

At that moment, he stepped on a piece of broken glass, making a crisp sound.

He glanced into the room and saw that it was in a mess.

Amidst the chaos, Vivian sat on the living room couch, clutching a cushion. Upon catching his gaze, she swiftly raised her hand and hurled the cushion at him. "You dare to come back?"

Liam dodged, causing the cushion to collide with the door behind him before dropping to the ground.

"What are you trying to do?"

He bent down to pick up the cushion, carefully avoiding the shards, and walked over to sit beside her.

Although he had anticipated this, seeing such a scene still made him feel annoyed.

"What do you think I'm trying to do?" Vivian sat up straight and turned her head to look at him. "I'm asking you, what should we do now? You also heard what Evelyn said at the press conference. I told you, she's untrustworthy! You didn't believe me! And now, she refuses to apologize. Do you know that I can't even go on Instagram anymore?"

"Why are you afraid?" Liam said. "You have nothing to hide. You're entitled to it."

"That's enough. What you said to the journalists is enough. Now I want you to figure out a solution, not just placate me!"

Vivian talked while pulling on Liam's arm. She had left the scene in anger because she couldn't face Evelyn face-to-face anymore.

She had thought that continuing to confront Evelyn would not be good for her, so she pretended to be angry and left first.

"Now you want me to figure out a solution? Why didn't you let me figure out a solution before you left the press conference?" Liam glanced at her and was very unhappy. "Do you know how the journalists wrote about your departure? You were angry because you were exposed? You were guilty because you had no evidence?"

"If I didn't leave, wouldn't the situation be worse? Evelyn obviously believes in our affair. She wants to ruin me!"

Saying that, Vivian looked helpless, tears filling her eyes. "Liam, what did I do wrong? I just love you! These past few years, I used her perfumes to earn some fame, but she has always monopolized you!

"You know, in my heart, there's nothing more important than you! She has taken away the person I love the most, and all I got was a little benefit. So what? By acting like this now, she's forcing us and Liavian Perfumes to our deaths. Liam, she doesn't care about you at all!"

Every word pierced Liam's heart, echoing his own thoughts.

He thought, 'If Evelyn still cared about me, she wouldn't be acting like this.'

Thinking back to the dagger held against his neck, Liam suddenly felt a chill on his neck and his heart grew colder.

"Since she's so resolute, she can't blame me for being heartless." Liam's expression became somewhat ferocious. "She believes she's superior because she understands the formula and creation process, but she fails to realize that the authorities prioritize evidence. And we possess the evidence!"

"What do you mean? Are we really going to sue her?" Vivian was only trying to intimidate Evelyn at the time.

She thought, 'Suing is not only troublesome, but it could also fail.'
