Chapter 50 You Scare Me

"Actually, you are still being stubborn." Nicholas shook his head. "When you left, Grandfather did say harsh words, but he was also angry at that time. We are a family, how can you take what he said in anger seriously?

"It's been quite a while; you must have endured many hardships. Look at how others are speaking about you now, and you still have a lawsuit pending. You've brought this upon yourself, yet you persist in staying away from home?"

"I'm not refusing to come home. When I feel that I can go back, I will naturally go back." Evelyn straightened her back. "I will handle my own matters myself. Don't worry, no one will know about my relationship with the Jones family."

However, her words seemed to anger Nicholas. "Do you think the Jones family is afraid of being implicated by you? Do you think they won't be implicated if you don't say anything? Why do you still think so highly of yourself after these years?"

"You can think of me as being overly confident. When I have the qualifications to return to the Jones family, I will personally tell Grandfather."

"Do you really not plan to go back?" Nicholas took another step forward, looking down at her.

His slender frame made him appear taller, and his skin was very pale, and his complexion was remarkably pale, yet his lips bore a subtle pink hue. This touch of color enhanced his features, leaving people to marvel at his striking handsomeness.

Evelyn raised her head, her gaze exceptionally firm. "No—"

Before she could finish her sentence, a shadow lunged from the front. Without hesitation, she raised her arm to shield herself.

Nicholas moved swiftly and with ferocity. Had it not been for Evelyn's quick reflexes, she would have been struck by his palm.

After several rounds of confrontation, exhaustion began to take its toll, evident in her panting. Suddenly, Nicholas aimed a kick at her waist!

His foot halted just an inch from her, displaying precise control of his strength, before he swiftly retracted it. His movements were agile, leaving no opportunity for reaction.

"You have regressed," he said flatly.

"Yes!" Evelyn admitted honestly.

She had noticed this when she had sparred with the bodyguards Liam had brought with him. She had been slacking off and regressed in the past two years. If this had been before, she would have easily defeated them, but that day her wrists even started to ache.

"You insist on not going back?" Nicholas asked again.

This time, Evelyn didn't answer, but her eyes already gave him the answer.

"Take care of yourself!"

After saying that, he walked past her and left.

By the time Evelyn turned around again, Nicholas had already disappeared.

At that moment, she felt her arms and legs were very sore. Although Nicholas hadn't used all his strength, she still had had to exert a lot of energy to fight against him.

But...

Did this incident finally catch the attention of the Jones family?

She thought that in these past few years, her grandfather had already given up on her and let her fend for herself.

At the Liavian Perfumes laboratory, everyone was fully immersed in the experiment and had made countless attempts. However, the composition of the essential oils was inherently complex, with dozens of different spices mixed together.

Even with their formula, different spices would have slight variations in quantity. Not to mention, they were unsure if the current formula was correct.

Everyone seemed to be stumped. They had been working tirelessly, with sore necks and eyes, but one person was an exception.

Laura was still sitting in the chair, surrounded by all the experimental equipment. However, her body was leaning backward, her hands hanging down on both sides, and her head was also tilted back. She had fallen asleep.

When Vivian entered the room, this was the scene she encountered.

Vivian clenched her fingers, took a deep breath, and walked over slowly, casually grabbing a blanket and covering Laura with it.

Perhaps startled, Laura opened her eyes drowsily and caught a glimpse of Vivian. Confused, she said, "Ms. Reed?"

"Yes!" Vivian smiled and said, "Laura, you must be exhausted. I just brewed a cup of coffee. Do you need a sip to freshen up?"

Laura looked at the Vivian in front of her in surprise, as if she didn't recognize her anymore.

Laura's gaze clearly conveyed the message: "Why have you become so gentle?"

Vivian felt genuinely unhappy under such scrutiny, yet she knew she had to restrain herself. She had experienced a setback with Evelyn previously and understood the consequences of losing her temper.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Are you afraid I poisoned it? Well, how about I take a sip first?" Vivian half-jokingly said, and then actually took a sip of the coffee in her hand. "See, this is me caring about you!"

"Thank you, Ms. Reed. However, since you've already drunk it, I shouldn't have any of your coffee."

"It's okay..."

Vivian was about to say that she would make another cup of coffee for Laura when she heard Laura continue, "And don't you know that eating and drinking are not allowed in the laboratory?"

After all, this was a perfume blending laboratory, and any interference from scents or other flavors would affect the judgment of fragrance. Moreover, the taste of coffee itself was strong and could easily mask the scent.

Vivian, both as a perfumer and as the director, had made a big mistake. This suggests either a lack of concern for perfume blending or… a lack of understanding.

Vivian awkwardly chuckled. "Of course I know! But I just thought you were exhausted, so I was concerned about you! Anyway, the perfume can't be made for now. Let's take a break and talk outside."

Vivian directly pulled Laura out of the laboratory and sat down on the couch outside. She kindly brewed a fresh cup of coffee and brought some snacks and fruits to the table. "You must be hungry, right? Have some snacks first. I'll treat you to something delicious later."

Laura looked at her in fear, with her hands protecting herself. "No, Ms. Reed, if you have something to say, just say it directly. You scare me like this!"

Vivian was at loss for words, almost unable to control her anger. She turned around sharply, clenched her fist, and gritted her teeth.

After calming down, she turned back again, still with a smile on her face. "Laura, I know you have some misunderstandings about me, but it's okay. I don't mind. Today, I have no ulterior motives. I just want to chat with you.

"You know, we've been working together for so long and never had a proper conversation. You can treat Evelyn as a friend, even to the extent of giving up your job for her. Can't you treat me as a friend too?"

She spoke sincerely, looking at Laura with a bright smile, waiting for her response.

Laura still maintained her guarded posture as Vivian spoke, her gaze fixed on Vivian's mouth. When Vivian finished, Laura blinked and shook her head decisively. "No."

Vivian was rendered speechless.
