Chapter 69 Astonishing Words
Cathy was a little speechless.
She looked at Evelyn carefully and said, "I really can't tell that you're angry."
Evelyn chuckled and said, "Anger doesn't have to be exposed all over one's face. I'm representing the company at this important event. I don't need to show my emotions for her."
Cathy couldn't help but laugh.
"Being angry is one thing, but it's useless to be angry all the time," she said.
Cathy nodded thoughtfully and gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for Evelyn.
"I have a question," Cathy hesitated to ask.
"It's okay; go ahead and ask," Evelyn said.
Now, she considered Cathy a friend. She had always known that Cathy's initial hostility toward her was due to distrust and a natural aversion to plagiarists and traitors.
Cathy had a strong sense of justice, and her directness was much better than those who hid their intentions.
Despite Evelyn's reassurance, Cathy remained silent and rubbed her nose. Suddenly, the lights in the room dimmed.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen!" a voice came over the microphone.
The tasting event was about to begin, so Cathy let go of the topic and, together with Evelyn, focused on the stage.
"Thank you all for attending tonight's tasting event. I am honored and delighted to see so many industry peers gathered here," the host continued with the formalities on stage while Evelyn and Cathy watched attentively.
Only Vivian, carefully navigating through the crowd with her glass in hand, was looking for Rosen. He should have arrived at the venue earlier.
After she arrived, she didn't rush in; instead, she spent a long time outside, but she didn't see him. Even after entering the venue, she couldn't find him.
Without him, no one paid any attention to her. When she tried to approach and greet people, they politely smiled upon hearing that she was from 'Liavian Perfumes,' then turned away.
Liavian Perfumes was quite well-known in the city, but on a national level, it was not that significant.
This time, not only were there nationally renowned perfumers but also some internationally acclaimed fragrance designers.
In this context, Liavian Perfumes was really nothing. The feeling of being ignored, combined with the frustration of being outsmarted by Evelyn at the hotel entrance, made her feel uneasy.
She realized that things might have been different if Rosen had been here.
With the lights on, she couldn't continue to move around, so she had to stand still, but her eyes continued to search.
She wasn't interested in the new products on stage. No matter how good they were, they were still someone else's creations!
All the glory and benefits belonged to those people, and it was useless for her to appreciate them.
Her purpose in coming here was not to learn something but to find some useful talents and recruit them.
With this in mind, she no longer insisted on finding Rosen. After all, she wouldn't be able to see him, and even if she did, he might not pay attention to her unless she could give in to his demands.
When she recalled his words earlier at the hotel, her heart raced. No, Rosen just wanted her body. He didn't really love her. The one she had to hold on to, the one she had to cherish, was only Liam!
On stage, the new products were presented, and a professional host introduced the creators, their inspirations, and the scents of the top, middle, and base notes, as well as the target audience.
Occasionally, they would ask others for different thoughts and feelings.
A few people would be invited to the stage to sample the fragrances and smell and give their thoughts.
Vivian didn't want to go up. It wasn't that she didn't want to stand out, but she couldn't afford to.
She knew that everyone here was at a professional level, and if she said anything wrong, she would easily be exposed, so it was better to be safe and speak less.
She tried to blend in with the crowd, and then she saw Evelyn.
The host called Evelyn up, and she couldn't even pronounce Evelyn's name. Evelyn was going to evaluate the work of the famous French perfumer, Clombert.
Most people present had the idea of trying Clombert's work, but they didn't dare to.
After all, he was a master, and everyone wanted to experience it, which would help improve their perfume-blending skills.
But they were afraid of saying something wrong, which would be a joke, and instead of winning the favor of the master, they would make a fool of themselves.
So, when Evelyn was called up, most people thought she was finished! The girl looked quite unfamiliar; they hadn't seen her before, and they hadn't heard her name either.
She was a newcomer to the industry. Someone who knew her quietly told their friend that this girl was from Neogenito Fragrances. Many people in the industry knew that it was a subsidiary of the Seraphian Group.
Because of the backing of the Seraphian Group, it still had some face. So, they thought that they sent a newcomer to hone their skills.
"Ms. Taylor, you are about to evaluate the works of Master Clombert. How do you feel? Are you under pressure?" the host joked to set the mood.
"I think the pressure on the master is probably greater than mine," Evelyn replied, coyly. She smiled slightly, but her words were astonishing.
There was a commotion. Vivian, who had been looking at her with jealousy, smiled with a hint of joy when she heard Evelyn's words.
What an idiot! By saying that, she would only offend the master and all the other senior colleagues.
Did Evelyn really think she was so great? She didn't have any reputation, and she was so arrogant.
The host was also a little embarrassed, but he still said with a stiff smile, "I'm sorry, I didn't understand what you meant?"
Evelyn heard the commotion and saw Cathy frowning and shaking her head, indicating that she should stop talking nonsense.
Evelyn remained calm, smiled gently, and explained, "What I mean is, as a master, he often has to listen to us juniors discussing his work. Even if he hears some nonsense, he should maintain enough grace and not bother with the juniors. The pressure must be considerable."
