Chapter 47 Are You Joking with Me?

Watching her end the call, Samuel asked, "Do you want me to accompany you?"

"No, it's okay. Thank you." Evelyn shook her head and added, "Don't worry, I can handle it myself. I need to borrow someone from you, though."

"Oh?"

The place Liam arranged to meet was a cafe on Violet Street.

Liam and Vivian arrived quite early and they kept staring at the entrance. When they saw Evelyn walk in, Liam even subconsciously wanted to stand up. If it weren't for Vivian pulling him back, he would have instinctively gone to greet her.

Being pulled back by her, he snapped out of it. Although he needed her help this time, the outcome was still uncertain. He had a lot of evidence in his hands, so he didn't need to be too humble. Otherwise, he would be at a disadvantage.

With this in mind, he sat back down calmly and straightened his clothes.

However, they soon noticed that there was a man following behind Evelyn. He was wearing a formal suit, a neatly tied tie, and glasses with gold frames. He looked cultured and serious, but they didn't recognize him.

Liam narrowed his eyes and scrutinized the man with caution.

It wasn't until Evelyn walked up to them and stood in front that he looked up. "Hello, Evelyn."

"Just say what you want to say!" Evelyn sat down in the seat opposite them straightforwardly and said, "My time is valuable."

Vivian clenched her teeth and tried to maintain an elegant smile as she looked at her. "Evelyn, it's been a while, and you've become more beautiful."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "Really? Maybe your eyesight isn't very good. I've always been this beautiful!"

Vivian was rendered speechless.

She then shifted her gaze to the man sitting next to Evelyn. "Haha, I didn't expect you to be so eloquent now. By the way, do you want to introduce the person next to you?"

Liam also stared at the man, waiting for her reply.

Vivian voiced the question that had been weighing on his mind. The recent changes in Evelyn had left him bewildered, particularly her sudden departure for Neogenito Fragrances and her firm decision to leave him and Liavian Perfumes. He wondered if her newfound decisiveness was influenced by someone manipulating her from behind the scenes.

Could it be... this man beside her?

"This is my lawyer, Andy Smith," Evelyn introduced him naturally and calmly. "Since the three of us are now involved in a lawsuit, we shouldn't be meeting. But since you insisted on seeing me, I believe it is fair and just to meet in the presence of a lawyer."

Liam and Vivian were at a loss for words.

"Now, if you have anything to say, feel free to speak." Evelyn leaned back, took out her phone, and looked down at the screen.

Liam never expected that this man was a lawyer, not what he had assumed.

"Evelyn, is it necessary for you to be so heartless? Can't we just sit down and talk properly?" Liam leaned forward slightly and stared at her, trying to get a response.

But Evelyn just kept her head down, playing with her phone, and responded casually, "Heartless? Didn't I agree to meet with you? If I am heartless, then what is your behavior? Besides, isn't it you who sued me first? Now that I have a lawyer present, it's to protect your rights. Don't you appreciate my good intentions?"

"I said I can withdraw the lawsuit, so why do things have to be like this? We were classmates and friends after all. Even if we're not friends anymore, we don't have to be enemies," Liam earnestly persuaded Evelyn, but she remained silent, poking at the screen of her phone.

Vivian pursed her lips and spoke softly, "Evelyn, I understand that Liam and I have upset and hurt you, but love cannot be controlled. While you dedicate your days to the lab, Liam also craves companionship. Personal emotions shouldn't interfere with your work. Liavian Perfumes is the result of our collective effort. Must you let personal feelings affect our workplace?

"Have you considered the damage and impact our company has endured due to your actions? Liam's eating and sleeping habits have been disrupted. We don't know what drew you to Neogenito Fragrances, but Evelyn, even if we're no longer under the same company, we remain in the same industry. Our paths will cross again in the future. There's no need to stir up such turmoil."

Evelyn had no response to her words and instead turned her head to Andy. "Mr. Smith, please take note of what they said. It may serve as evidence in court if needed."

"Don't worry. I've written down everything they said." Andy nodded.

Her attitude was so indifferent, as if she did not care about them at all. This finally angered Vivian.

Vivian slammed the spoon down and sat up straight. "Evelyn! What are you doing? Do you think you can show off in front of us? Do you think you will definitely win? Do you think that because you tampered with the formula, we have to beg you?"

Her stern scolding attracted the attention of others. Liam looked at Evelyn, stirring his coffee lightly with one hand, without saying a word.

Evelyn's gaze lifted from her phone screen, settling calmly on Liam and Vivian seated across from her. A sarcastic smile curled her lips as she addressed Vivian, "I'm sorry, Ms. Reed, what did you just say? I didn't quite understand."

"Don't play dumb!"

For some reason, as Vivian looked at Evelyn's expression, her momentum instantly diminished, and even her voice became lower.

"Play dumb? I am really dumb! Ms. Reed, if I remember correctly, Liavian Perfumes is suing me for stealing your formula and confidential information, as well as accusing me of plagiarism. If that's the case, how could I have tampered with the formula you personally mixed?"

She emphasized the words "you personally mixed" and continued, "Moreover, even if I did alter your formula, with your qualifications and abilities, you could easily adjust it back. Why would you need to beg me?

"Ms. Reed, are you joking with me?"

Evelyn wore a smile that felt both mocking and oppressive, leaving Vivian breathless.

Suddenly, Vivian felt exposed, her words contradictory, unable to explain herself. Her expression changed several times, leaving her momentarily speechless.

"Evelyn, there's no need to speak in such a strange tone." Liam gently held Vivian's hand and whispered, "I told you, we came here today to make peace. Saying these things is pointless."
