Chapter 178 No! We Don't Want to Hear That!
"What do you want me to do?" James asked, looking up at Evelyn with his sunglasses slightly askew.
Annoyed, Evelyn snatched the sunglasses off. She finally understood why James always wore them—he only had one eye.
With his one good eye glaring at her and the other practically blind, James struggled fiercely despite being tied up.
"Tell your boss I died from the overdose when you injected me. Make him come quickly," Evelyn demanded. She knew the employer wanted her alive to control her, not dead. If she died, he'd rush over to check.
"If I do that, will you let us go?" James asked, looking sinister.
Evelyn chuckled. "Are you serious? You kidnapped me and my assistant, tried to drug me, and now you want me to let you go? Keep dreaming."
"Why should I listen to you then?" he snorted.
Michael, sweating bullets, said, "I'll do it!"
"Michael!" James yelledin disbelief.
"You're the one who listens the most!" Evelyn said, filming Michael's face with her phone, ready to make the call.
"Michael, if you make this call, you might as well quit this business. Who will hire us after this?" James said fiercely.
Evelyn laughed. "What? You think you can keep doing this? Worry about staying alive first!"
"Even if we die, we won't betray our employer!" James shouted. "Michael, you can't do this!"
"I..."
"You don't have to follow my orders. Dying is easy," Evelyn said coldly. "But have you ever heard of a way in Vistalia where someone can't live or die?"
James didn't care, glaring at Evelyn. "Ma'am, do you think we're nobodies? Being in your hands is humiliating enough. Following your orders would be worse than death!"
"Good! You have guts!" she applauded. "Since you're so brave, I'll think of a fitting way for a warrior like you to die!"
She paced back and forth. "Let me think. Have you heard of the old Vistalian execution method where criminals were tied up and slowly cut open, experiencing extreme pain until death?"
"Tied up and slowly cut open?" Michael repeated, trembling.
"Yes! It's simple, and this small dagger can do it. We tie you up in a net and cut off the protruding flesh, one cut at a time. We agree on the number of cuts beforehand, and that's how many you'll get."
"I'm very reputable. If we agree on a certain number of cuts, that's exactly how many you'll get. No more, no less. Want to give it a try?" she said.
If Michael could move, he'd be trembling. He couldn't believe how cruel she could be, especially with her smile.
Evelyn continued, "But I'm not very experienced, so I might go too hard. Whether it's more or less, don't mind too much."
"No!" Michael shouted.
James' eye twitched, but he held firm. "You think we're scared?"
"It's best if you're not. You're all strong," Evelyn nodded. "There's a method of interrogating prisoners, especially women, where they're tied to pillars for whipping. Heard of it?"
Michael fell silent, not wanting to hear more.
However, Evelyn didn't care. "A thick hemp rope, tied at both ends, with delicate women pulling it back and forth until the flesh is raw. Despite that, they're still alive and breathing."
She shook her head. "We're in a new era! Shouldn't men and women be treated equally? What women can endure, men can too, especially strong ones like you! And men can be pulled a bit longer, right?"
She got more excited as she spoke, and Michael got more terrified to the point of fainting. He thought, 'Even if men survive, they're done for.'
James didn't speak, but his face looked grim. He'd seen bloody scenes before, but Evelyn's description made him want to clench his legs, feeling a bit of pain in his crotch.
Nathan couldn't move or speak, his face turning red as he tried to break free. However, it was futile.
"So, have you decided? If not, I have more..." Before she could finish, the phone rang. It was Nathan's phone; seemed like Rosen had come without Evelyn having to seek him out.
"Who's going to answer it?" she waved the phone in front of James and Michael. Before James could speak, Michael, afraid he'd refuse, jumped in. "I'll do it! I'll say it right. Trust me!"
Evelyn laughed. "Good, just remember what to say!"
When the call connected, a distorted voice came through.
"How's it going? Did you give her the medicine?" the voice immediately asked.
Evelyn held the phone, staring at Michael. Michael leaned over and said, "Something's gone wrong!"
"What's wrong?!" Rosen sounded very nervous.
"The medicine's dosage was too high, and it seems like she's dead!" Michael's lower lip was pierced, so he spoke with a heavy, panting voice.
"What?!" Rosen was shocked. "Didn't I say that was a three-day dose? How did you use it all at once?! Are you stupid?"
