Chapter 195 What A No-nonsense Man

Glancing at Samuel, Evelyn said, "Nah. What's up?"

Laura could tell Evelyn was relieved. "Looks like he still hasn't tracked down your contact info."

"What?"

"Yesterday, Liam hit me up asking if I had your current contact info. I asked him why, but he didn't spill. I was worried he might stir up some drama for you." Then, Laura asked, "By the way, you didn't give him my number, did you?"

Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Nope. Not blocking him is already more than enough."

"Good. Don't sweat it. I didn't tell him anything! But with the internet these days, if Liam is determined to reach you, he'll likely succeed.. Just a heads-up, be careful. I think he's up to something." Laura called Evelyn right after hanging up on Liam, worried she might be too late.

Liam didn't say much; he just kept bugging Laura for Evelyn's number, sounding pretty desperate. But knowing Liam, it didn't seem like anything good. So Laura kept quiet.

Liam definitely wouldn't give up that easily.

"It's cool. Don't stress about Liam," Evelyn said, shrugging it off.

Even if Liam wanted to cause trouble, Evelyn wasn't scared. Plus, knowing Liam, his skills were pretty limited. Let him try; he couldn't mess with Evelyn much.

"Alright, just stay safe over there and come back soon!" Laura reminded Evelyn.

"Okay, no worries. I'll be back in a couple of days anyway."

After hanging up and seeing Samuel still staring at her without eating, Evelyn instinctively touched her cheek. "What? Do I have something on my face?"

"Is something wrong?" Samuel asked straight up.

Evelyn shook her head. "Nah, it's no big deal."

Maybe it was because she'd been through so much, or maybe because they'd been apart for so long, or maybe she just didn't love Liam as much as she thought. Evelyn realized Liam was barely a blip in her life.

No matter what Liam did, it was all just noise. Evelyn's heart didn't even flinch.

Samuel didn't push further, just asked, "You full?"

Even though they didn't eat much, the Marseille fish soup and steak Samuel made were pretty filling for Evelyn.

After paying the bill, Samuel took Evelyn back to the car, ready to head out.

"When are we heading back?" Evelyn asked casually while buckling up.

Samuel was about to answer when his phone rang.

Samuel's phone had been unusually quiet these past few days, which didn't match his usual busy self. If Samuel hadn't taken Evelyn out for a fun day and a business deal today, Evelyn might've thought Samuel was shifting from a big-shot businessman to someone just living it up, relying on family money.

Samuel's phone was so quiet 'cause he had it on vibrate. He didn't wanna mess up Evelyn's rare chill time with random stuff. If it was important, he'd pick up; otherwise, he just ignored it.

The reason it was buzzing now wasn't 'cause of a regular call but a video call on WhatsApp.

The phone was right there, so both Evelyn and Samuel could see it was Sophia calling.

Raising an eyebrow, Evelyn immediately clocked it was a chick's name, but that wasn't the main thing. The main thing was Samuel's frown.

Samuel hung up the call.

But before his hand could get back to the steering wheel, the video call came through again, the ringtone sounding all urgent.

Taking a deep breath, Samuel put one hand on the car window and was about to hang up again, but Evelyn stopped him. "Answer it. What if it's something important!"

"If you feel weird about it, I can step out for a sec." Saying this, Evelyn was about to unbuckle her seatbelt and get out of the car.

"No need!" Samuel grabbed her, then picked up the phone and answered, "What's up?"

The call started with crying, which made Evelyn blink, wondering if she was hearing things right.

Samuel, looking all impatient and annoyed, said, "Finish crying first before calling me!"

After saying that, Samuel hung up again.

What a no-nonsense dude!

But that wasn't gonna solve anything. Sure enough, in less than two seconds, the call came through again. Samuel answered this time, and instead of crying, a scolding voice came through the phone. ""You hung up on me, Samuel! You left without a word, and now you're ignoring my calls and messages. This isn't like you at all!"

"I'm abroad. If you got something to say, say it quick," Samuel said coldly, hinting he was about to hang up any second.

Sophia, feeling all wronged, said, "Can't I call you just 'cause? Where did you go? I asked Henry, and he doesn't know. Kyle won't say either. When are you coming back?"

"Not sure." Samuel replied indifferently, "Anything else?"

Maybe worried about Evelyn, Samuel kept glancing at her. But Sophia, being all sensitive, felt something was off.

"What are you looking at? Is there someone with you?" Suddenly, Sophia leaned closer to the camera, making her face look huge, causing Samuel to frown. "What are you doing!"

"Is there someone with you? A woman? Who is it?" Sophia kept asking.

"It's none of your business. I'll hang up if there's nothing else."

"No!" Sophia's voice got all desperate. Evelyn instinctively covered her ears. Was this chick a soprano singer or what?

But the next moment, the call was already disconnected.

Evelyn thought to herself, 'Aren't you worried she'll call back?'

But then she saw Samuel's fingers quickly blacklist Sophia's WhatsApp, phone number, and all possible contact info.

Evelyn stayed quiet.

Samuel didn't give Evelyn a chance to feel jealous.
