Chapter 205 Just Thinking About It Felt Good
Evelyn thought, "No way Samuel would pull off something this flashy." She was kinda confused, thinking it was just some prank.
The balloons floated up, making a pretty scene. The ladies felt all lovey-dovey looking at them, so they kept peeking downstairs, trying to see who did it.
"Hey, check it out! There's someone down there!"
"Yeah, right below us!"
"Is he holding a huge bunch of flowers? Like, a massive bunch!"
"Let me see, yep, it's a giant bunch of red roses, like ninety-nine of them?"
They all gasped. A bunch of people were already eyeing Cathy's office and green with envy.
"This is..." Inside the office, Evelyn, Cathy, and Laura were just as stunned. Laura first thought it was Mr. Whitman, but when she saw Evelyn's face, she knew something was off. Just as Laura was wondering, she heard people outside yelling about someone downstairs, so she leaned over and looked through the window.
Liam was standing a bit far off. As Laura looked down, Liam looked up, and their eyes met. Laura was shocked. "Liam Scott?"
Laura never would've guessed that the guy with the balloons was Liam!
She instinctively glanced at Evelyn, who looked even more embarrassed.
"That Liam?" Cathy couldn't see clearly until hearing Laura say his name. Cathy said with a smirk, "What's he up to? Trying to get back with Evelyn?"
Laura frowned. "I smell something fishy."
How long had Evelyn been with Liam? Over the years, he hadn't even sent a single flower, and they barely went out for meals. And now he's suddenly Mr. Romantic? Who knows what Liam's scheming.
"Wanna go check it out?" Laura asked Evelyn.
Evelyn pursed her lips, staying silent. Grasping the meaning of her silence, Laura immediately said, "If you don't wanna go, I'll go shoo him away."
She was about to head downstairs when Evelyn stopped her. "No need."
Evelyn pulled out her phone, dialed a number, and calmly said, "Hi, I'd like to report someone littering in a public place, messing up the environment. Yeah, the address is..."
Laura and Cathy exchanged looks, both impressed by Evelyn.
Downstairs, Liam stood there with a huge bunch of red roses, looking all confident, waiting for Evelyn.
Liam adjusted his hair, which he had styled carefully before coming. He wore a white suit and pants, all perfectly ironed. Liam vaguely remembered Evelyn saying she liked white for its purity and elegance. So he went all out in white.
But after standing there for a while and not seeing anyone come down, a few men in uniforms from the environmental department showed up and walked up to Liam. "Hey, did you release those balloons?"
"Yeah, it was me. What's the big deal?" Liam was clueless about what these men wanted.
"Someone reported you for littering and messing up the environment. You need to come with us for an investigation," One of the men in uniform said.
Liam's eyes went wide with disbelief. "I just let go of a few balloons! That's not littering. And what about those street vendors selling balloons?"
The guy replied, "A few balloons aren't a problem, but when you release a bunch and it affects the area, you gotta face the consequences."
Liam was pissed. "What? What did I do?"
One of them adjusted his hat and looked up at the building. "Someone complained you were disturbing their work."
Liam was fuming. "Who? Tell me! I wanna ask them how I messed up their work! Don't touch me! Do you even know who I am?"
The men in uniform were ready to take Liam away. Feeling humiliated, Liam struggled and cursed.
What could've been settled with a fine turned into a bigger deal because Liam was being a pain. The environmental guys had to follow the rules.
Liam never thought his grand gesture to win back Evelyn would crash and burn like this. He didn't even get to see her before being hauled away.
Upstairs, Cathy and Laura watched the whole scene unfold, feeling pretty satisfied.
"Evelyn, that was genius! I didn't know you had it in you to take him down without lifting a finger," Laura laughed. "It's hilarious!"
Just thinking about it felt good. Liam used to act all high and mighty, taking everything Evelyn did for granted. Now, he tried to pull a fast one, but no way was that gonna work.
"Boring," Evelyn shook her head.
She didn't know what Liam was trying to pull, but whatever it was, it was childish and lame.
Outside the office, many were still gossiping, then they saw Liam being taken away, some feeling a bit sorry for him.
"Alright, back to work. It's none of your business!" Cathy waved her hand, telling everyone to drop it.
Closing the door, Cathy looked at Evelyn. "It's settled for now, but what if he causes more trouble? Are you just gonna keep avoiding him?"
"Let him get taken away again!" Laura said, annoyed.
"How many times can you put up with this? What will the company think? And don't you have a new boyfriend now? What if he finds out? How will he react?" Cathy asked, staying calm.
With Cathy's reminder, Laura suddenly remembered. "Oh yeah, then..."
She thought if Samuel found out, it wouldn't end well.
"I'll handle it," Evelyn said.
