Chapter 147 I Didn't Do It
Evelyn took out her phone and realized that she had deleted all contact information about Liam. She could only look to Laura for help.
After years of partnership, Evelyn just needed to give Laura a look, and Laura immediately understood. She found Liam's phone number and called him directly.
The phone was answered quickly, and Liam's lazy voice came through. "What's up, Laura? Regretting and wanting to come back?"
"Don't let your paranoia run rampant in broad daylight."
Taking the phone, Evelyn directly called out to Liam, "Liam."
"Evelyn?!" Liam was surprised to hear Evelyn's voice, immediately perking up. "Why did you think of looking for me?"
After checking, Liam found it was indeed Laura's phone. It seemed that Laura and Evelyn were together.
"Serenity Health Hospital, Obstetrics and Gynecology. Liam, come and pay for your woman's surgery!" After Evelyn gave the address, she hung up the phone decisively.
Laura, stunned by what she heard, gave Evelyn a thumbs up.
On the other end of the phone, Liam had yet quite to grasp the situation. He was still pondering Evelyn's words, 'Pay for my woman's surgery? Who? What is the surgery fee? Regardless, Evelyn contacting me was a good thing after all, indicating that there was still a chance to salvage the situation.'
Fortunately, Liam was now able to get up and move around, albeit with the help of a wheelchair.
The hospital naturally didn't allow Liam to leave, so he had to call for an assistant to come and help, which was quite a hassle.
However, after Evelyn made the call, she remembered that Liam seemed to have been in a car accident and was staying in the hospital. Nevertheless, this was a matter between Liam and Vivian. Evelyn was sympathetic because she had managed to get Vivian admitted to the hospital.
As Evelyn thought about leaving, Laura's phone rang. It turned out to be a transfer of $300 from Liam, along with a message:[Whoever it is, pay the surgery fee first. I'll be there soon.]
Evelyn and Laura exchanged glances.
What did he mean by "whoever it is?" How many women did Liam have? What was Liam thinking?
"Evelyn, what should we do?" Laura looked at the extra money on her phone, feeling helpless.
Originally planning to leave after the call, now that the money had been sent, Evelyn thought it didn't seem appropriate to leave just like that.
"Since he has some compassion, let's pay the money first." After some thought, Evelyn changed her mind and decided to stay for a while.
Since he said he would be there soon, she decided to wait for him and have a clear, face-to-face conversation about what games Liam and Vivian were playing!
Not long after the hospital deposit was paid, Liam indeed arrived, still in a wheelchair and looking quite pitiful.
Liam initially considered tidying up his appearance to look more presentable, at least not so messy when they met. But then he thought that looking a bit pitiful might actually evoke more sympathy from Evelyn.
When Liam had a cold or fever in the past, Evelyn had been extremely concerned and had bought medicine specifically for him.
People always seemed to reminisce about the good times only after they had lost something.
Seeing Evelyn from a distance, Liam suddenly felt a bit awkward.
The reason for this awkwardness was that he hadn't seen Evelyn for some time, and now she looked quite different from his memory.
Evelyn used to wear makeup rarely, her hair loosely tied back, and she didn't pay much attention to her clothes, often in a white coat. But now, Evelyn was wearing a beige sweater, appropriate leggings, and a black trench coat draped naturally, her hair loose with a slight curl. This was a very ordinary outfit but exuded an air of elegance.
Thinking back to what Ava had said, Liam looked at Evelyn and increasingly felt that Evelyn exuded a mysterious and noble aura of the Jones family.
"Evelyn." Liam stood in front of her, looking up at Evelyn, his voice slightly choked.
"Your woman is still inside." Pointing towards the operating room, Evelyn said, "Hold back your emotions until she comes out, then put on a show."
Liam fell silent.
Laura also fell silent.
She was surprised by Evelyn's sharp words. It was quite amusing to see Liam's expression, who wanted to say something but held back.
"What's wrong with Vivian?" Liam sighed and asked.
"She's been following me," Evelyn said bluntly, "and she wanted to catch me. She stumbled and fell."
Pausing for a moment, she added, "Vivian seems to be pregnant and has been bleeding."
"Couldn't save the child?" Liam inquired.
It seemed that Liam was aware of Vivian's pregnancy. Evelyn confessed, "The doctor said it's possible."
Liam didn't seem the least bit saddened or upset; he actually felt somewhat relieved.
This expression made Evelyn and Laura feel that Liam was too indifferent.
After all, it was Liam's child. Wasn't he the least bit sad?
"You say she's been following you?" Liam asked again after a moment of thought.
Although Evelyn was amazed by Liam's indifference, at this point, everything had progressed beyond Evelyn's control. She nodded and said, "Vivian said I forced you to break up? Liam, what did you tell Vivian? Why would she have such a misconception?"
"Vivian said that?" Liam was surprised. He hadn't expected Vivian to seek out Evelyn and say such things. It seemed that Vivian was upset by Liam's words.
Glancing at Liam, Evelyn remained silent.
"So you pushed her?" Liam continued.
Giving Liam a cold stare, Evelyn said, "I didn't do it!"
Indeed, Liam and Vivian were the same type of person. He asked directly, "So you pushed her?" It was absurd. Even if Evelyn said she didn't do it, he still thought that way.
"Alright, you didn't do it." Chilled by Evelyn's icy gaze, Liam felt a shiver down his spine.
Liam had always thought Evelyn was gentle and obedient, someone who would listen to him, so he had never taken Evelyn seriously. But when Evelyn no longer showed her gentle side, just one look could make him feel like a knife was cutting across his face.
Liam had truly underestimated Evelyn.
Looking deeply at Evelyn, Liam felt a sense of regret and said, "Even if you did push Vivian, it's okay."
Evelyn was puzzled.
Laura fell silent.
If Vivian, lying inside, heard Liam's words, she would be very angry.
"I'll say it one last time. I didn't push Vivian!" Evelyn's voicewas terrifyingly chilling, like freezing ice.
