Chapter 141 You Were Not Good At Choosing a Girlfriend
Liam had thought that Evelyn might visit him. The news had caused such a stir that even Ava took the risk to come over, but Evelyn, who must have known about it, didn't show up. Vivian, despite her mistakes, was there right away.
In response, Ava sneered. "You? With all the things you've done to Evelyn, if I were Evelyn, I wouldn't have bothered to tear you apart, let alone come to see you!"
Liam felt unjustly treated. "Mom! I'm your son!"
He thought, 'How could Mom support Evelyn like this?'
"Yes! It's because you're my son that I'm telling you this. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother," Ava replied.
Ava sensed a gravity in the conversation, noting the palpable shift in Liam's countenance. Pausing momentarily, Ava took a breath. "I'm not scolding you, nor am I speaking for someone else. Parents always consider their children a lot. I've been through it all, and I can see the pros and cons clearly. Being with Vivian is not beneficial for you."
"What benefits does being with Evelyn bring then? Just because Evelyn can blend scents and be a perfumer? I don't need to marry a perfumer as a wife. Besides, have you seen how Evelyn looks when she's out for revenge on me? Isn't that terrifying?" Liam retorted.
But deep down, he had to admit that being with Evelyn had more pros than cons.
When Liam worked with Evelyn, he didn't have to worry about new products or bestsellers. Evelyn always supplied new goods in a timely manner and never questioned what was happening in Liam's company. Evelyn easily resolved any issues with formulas or raw materials. Liam had yet to realize that a small formula mistake could potentially lead to the company's downfall.
Even though Liam didn't live with Evelyn, whenever he visited her, there would always be meals to enjoy. In fact, Evelyn was not good at cooking because it would reduce the sensitivity of her fingers.
Liam thought that Evelyn was indeed good but lacked charm.
Evelyn would get so engrossed in her experiments that she'd forget food or rest. Sometimes, Liam couldn't even reach her by phone. While he sometimes found Evelyn attractive and wanted to kiss her, she always smelled of various chemicals, unlike Vivian, whose scent always intoxicated Liam.
Moreover, Vivian was quite adventurous in bed. The longer Liam spent with Vivian, the less appealing Evelyn became to him, and he gradually lost interest in being close to her.
"You!" Ava seemed a bit tired, pulled over a chair from the side, sat down, and said to Liam, "You've been with Evelyn for years. Why did Evelyn seek revenge on you before? What did you do? Don't you know? I don't want to meddle in your affairs. I think you're grown up, and it's your own business. But choosing a girlfriend, Liam, you're really not good at it!"
"If I remember correctly, Vivian's parents are just ordinary workers, right? Their family's financial situation is quite average, isn't it?" Ava added.
This was true; Vivian's family background was indeed ordinary, but Liam didn't care. He believed that a capable man could bring happiness to his woman. He would not live off her efforts, and Evelyn wasn't particularly affluent either!
"Vivian's family is average, but at least it's a normal family. I've met Vivian's parents. But what about Evelyn? I've been with Evelyn for so long. I don't even know where she comes from, let alone her family. Evelyn might be an orphan, not as good as Vivian!" Liam remarked.
Liam had asked before and wanted to visit her family, especially after several years of dating and discussing marriage. But every time he brought it up, Evelyn would give vague answers. Eventually, Liam assumed Evelyn was an orphan with no family and stopped asking.
Looking at Liam now, Ava thought he looked foolish and was a bit angry. She thought, 'Why didn't Liam inherit anything from me? Instead, he had a bit of his father's silly look.'
"Orphan?" Ava sneered. "Evelyn is no orphan!"
Facing Liam's puzzled look, Evelyn slowly said, "Have you heard of the Jones family in Summercrest City?"
"The Jones family? You mean one of the four major families in Vistalia, known for judo and mysterious actions?" Liam asked.
Such a renowned family couldn't be unknown. Vistalia's most famous four families were the Paxton family in Burkwood, mainly in politics, with generations of commanders, the Redwood family in Emerald Bay, and the Whitman family in Lindwood City, both in business but with different focuses. Then, there was the mysterious Jones family in Summercrest City.
Rumors had it that every member of the Jones family was skilled in judo, appearing genteel and scholarly on the surface. No one knew if it was true or just hearsay, but the Jones family's influence in Summercrest City was undeniable.
But why did Avabring up the Jones family now?
"Does Evelyn have any connection to the Jones family?" Liam cautiously asked, finding it hard to believe.
Ava remained silent, and Liam understood.
"It can't be!" Liam insisted, "Mom, you probably don't know Evelyn that well! Evelyn is just an ordinary girl with a talent for blending scents. How could she be related to the Jones family? Evelyn isn't physically strong; she's just a delicate lady. Evelyn's last name is Taylor, while the Jones family's surname is Jones. How could they be related?!"
Liam couldn't believe it!
Liam and Evelyn were college classmates and had known each other for years. In all that time, Liam had never seen or heard of Evelyn having any family. If she were really from the Jones family, they would have met, and he would have known.
It must be a mistake!
In the face of Liam's rebuttal, Ava just chuckled. "So what? My surname is Mitchell, and yours is Scott. Does that mean we're not related?"
"That's different; you're my mom," Liam remarked.
Before Liam could finish his sentence, he froze. "Are you saying..."
Indeed, the idea that different surnames meant no relation was wrong!
Upon further reflection, Liam wondered ifEvelyn was not proficient in judo. Given her swift movements in that street and the threatening look, she stabbed Liam with a knife. Now, it all made sense.
So, Evelyn was truly from the Jones family, and Liam was connected to them.
