Chapter 11 Flashbacks

Leopold jumped in the car and took off like a bat outta hell.

Juniper was fuming, stomping her feet and yelling, "What kind of jerk does that?! Scumbag! Bastard! Total piece of shit! I'm so freaking pissed!"

"I’m telling you," she grabbed the Moore dude's collar, "Camilla ain't going back this time! No freaking way!"

The Moore guy tried to calm her down, "Yeah, yeah, chill out."

But he was thinking, 'Is that even possible? This guy was so cocky and sure of himself, he must have had a plan all along.'

He sneaked a look at Juniper, wishing she could be as into him as Camilla was with her man.

But he wouldn't dare dream of that.

In the car, Leopold got a call.

Already in a bad mood, he answered coldly, "What do you want?"

"Hey babe, I found this awesome restaurant with killer crab. Tomorrow's Saturday, let's go check it out, okay?" Amara's cheerful voice came through the line.

She knew Leopold was all about seafood, so she played to his tastes.

Plus, they hadn't talked since last night, and Amara was getting anxious. She put her pride aside and called him.

Usually, Leopold would set up their dates, and she'd play coy before agreeing.

But lately, things were different.

Leopold was hitting her up less, his texts were short, and sometimes he didn't reply at all.

When she asked, he'd just say he was busy.

Like now, "Saturday? I'm busy, no time."

"If you're busy Saturday, how about Sunday?" Amara gripped her phone tight, her lips going pale.

"I said I'm busy. That's it." And he hung up.

Amara stared at her phone, anxiety bubbling up again.

No way she was giving up after finally becoming Leopold's official girlfriend.

As the sun set, Sebastian and Camilla said goodbye to Aurora.

"How did time fly so fast?" Aurora looked at the sky, not wanting them to leave, "Stay for dinner before you go?"

Sebastian replied, "No, I gotta get back to the lab."

Camilla shook her head too, "There'll be plenty more chances."

"Alright, be careful on your way back. Come visit me when you can, okay?"

The last part was aimed at Camilla.

Camilla nodded quickly, "Yeah, for sure!"

"Oh, and there are two sets of materials and three books on the table. Take 'em with you; you left them here before."

Camilla majored in bioinformatics and had been working on some algorithms.

Before graduation, she had only half-finished a paper she wanted to submit to SCI, and Aurora had kept it for her.

Camilla's eyes trembled a bit, "Professor Garcia, I..."

"Alright, alright, just go. And the lunchbox on the table, it's been cleaned. Don't forget it."

Camilla was taken aback.

Aurora teased, "You came all the way to the hospital but didn't come in to see me, just left a lunchbox, and I almost overate because of it."

Camilla blushed, "It won't happen again."

On the way back, Camilla knew Sebastian was busy and didn't want to bug him to drop her off at her apartment, so she suggested getting off at the entrance of Harmony College.

It was just a short walk, and she could use the exercise.

Sebastian nodded, "Alright."

When Leopold saw someone sitting in front of the villa, his heart did a little flip.

But then he saw who it was and it sank back down. "Amara," he said.

"Leopold, you're back." Amara jumped up, her eyes all sparkly and excited.

"What are you doing here?"

"I was waiting for you. I called earlier, and you said you were busy, so I figured I'd wait till you got off work. Hope I didn't mess up your day."

Amara asked, all nervous and stuff.

"No." Leopold shook his head slowly.

"That's good!" She smiled, but it faded quick, "Leopold, I'm starving."

Amara looked down, all shy.

"Alright, let's go grab some food."

"Okay!"

They hit up a restaurant, and while Leopold barely touched his plate, Amara was digging in like it was her last meal.

Maybe she could tell him was in a bad mood today, so she wasn't as chatty as usual."Are you full?"

Amara nodded, "Yeah~"

"Let's go; I'll take you back to school."

"Oh."

The restaurant was close to Amara's university, and they parked in less than ten minutes.

As Amara was about to hop out of the car, she paused and turned to Leopold, "Aren't you gonna walk me in?"

Leopold nodded, "Okay."

At the university entrance, it was the end of evening classes, and students were out hunting for food.

Amara was one of the hottest girls on campus, so she got a lot of looks.

Especially since she was with a guy who looked like he walked out of a GQ magazine.

Amara didn't seem to notice the whispers, turning to Leopold with a sweet smile, "When are you gonna meet my roommates? They're dying to know who you are."

No, the whole university was curious about Amara's boyfriend.

Before, when Camilla was still around, Amara didn't dare to show off.

But now it was different. Leopold had promised to go public with their relationship, and he had kept his word. She didn't have to hide anymore.

Leopold stayed quiet.

Or rather, he wasn't interested in meeting Amara's roommates.

Amara, however, didn't seem to catch his indifference and kept smiling, "It's so awesome, Leopold. Every second with you is pure bliss."

With that, she suddenly leaned in, and before Leopold could react, she jumped up, her ponytail bouncing, and planted a soft kiss on his lips.

A chorus of gasps erupted around them.

"So the rumors are true, Amara really has a boyfriend!"

"Oh my God! It's like a TV show!"

"Amara is so beautiful, and her boyfriend is super handsome."

"This is a perfect match! I'm totally shipping them!"

Camilla stood at the back of the crowd, not because she wanted to watch, but because the commotion had caught her attention as she passed by.

What a coincidence.

Leopold snapped back to reality, looking at Amara's smiling face, and suddenly a pair of equally bright, shining eyes flashed in his mind.

Back at the Harmony College graduation ceremony, a girl had looked at him the same way.

Her eyes sparkling, her smile radiant, "Leopold, I choose you. I don't regret it."

He had recurring flashbacks to the days long gone. Leopold instinctively stepped back, putting some space between him and Amara.

"Leopold?" Amara was puzzled.

Leopold said, "It's late; you should head in."
