Chapter 169 I'm Not Afraid
The woman finished speaking, turned on her high heels, and left.
Simon just chuckled lightly, dismissing her words with disdain.
Love's pain?
As soon as the woman left, a young girl came out of the bar, wearing a short skirt that revealed her long, fair legs. Her curly hair was down, and her makeup was exquisite, like a real-life figurine.
"Simon!"
She approached him, thinking Simon wouldn't refuse, but the next second, Simon sidestepped her.
With a long arm, he pulled Juniper into his embrace.
Juniper, who was enjoying the show, was shocked.
Simon looked at the girl. "Sorry, you're too late."
The girl bit her lip, gave Juniper a resentful look, and reluctantly walked away.
"Using me?" Juniper crossed her arms and sneered, "Get your dirty hand off me!"
Simon was about to let go, but now he didn't want to. "I won't. What are you going to do about it?"
Juniper laughed in anger, "Playing rogue with me? Fine."
Simon didn't understand the deeper meaning of her smile. The next second, Juniper twisted his arm behind his back.
"Damn! It hurts, it hurts!" he cried out in pain.
Juniper said, "What now?"
"No, no, I was wrong! Let go, my arm's going to break!"
Juniper rolled her eyes, "Useless!"
She released the pressure but didn't let go, instead placing his hand back on her waist.
Under Simon's puzzled gaze, she said calmly, "Now can you take your hand off? Thanks."
Simon laughed in anger.
The laugh was fake, but the anger was real.
She actually put his hand back in the original position and then asked him to take it off?
It was like when parents tell kids to get up from where they fell.
And Simon was the kid.
Juniper was the parent!
Blatant insult!
At that moment, a furious figure stormed out of the bar, radiating anger from a distance.
"Juniper! Are you out of your mind? We agreed to meet at eight, do you know what time it is now? How long have you been late?! Everyone's time is valuable, not just yours. I thought something happened to you on the way, or there was an emergency."
The man's gaze fell on Simon's face, and he sneered, "Now it seems you were busy flirting with another man?"
Simon's hand was still on Juniper's waist.
He did it on purpose.
"Didn't know you were such a player. No wonder you wanted to collaborate with me, to deal with your family? Too bad, I never work with people who can't be punctual!"
With that, he walked away.
Juniper slapped Simon's hand off her waist. "Want to get twisted again?"
Simon quickly withdrew his hand.
Juniper watched the man leave and sighed deeply. What a bad day!
She had finally found a satisfactory partner, and he was interested too. Tonight should have been a pleasant conversation, and tomorrow she could report to her mom that she had found a son-in-law.
"It's all your fault! You are a terrible driver! Go retake your driving test!" I thought something happened to you on the way, or there was an emergency."
Simon stood at attention, ready to take the scolding.
"Why were you looking for that man? Collaboration? What kind of collaboration?"
And why did he say deal with your family?
Juniper rolled her eyes, her tone unfriendly, "Why do you care? What's it to you?"
Simon said, "I'm just trying to make up for it, see if there's anything I can help with. If you can collaborate with him, you can collaborate with me too."
His connections were much broader than that man's.
Juniper looked at his confident expression, her gaze turning strange for a few seconds. "Are you sure you want to collaborate with me?"
"Of course. What's with that look? Who are you looking down on?"
Juniper sized him up from head to toe.
The Miller family was one of the top eight wealthy families in the Imperial City.
Looking at Simon, he didn't retaliate when a woman slapped him, indicating he was emotionally stable and somewhat gentlemanly.
Although Simon was a player with many scandals, she wasn't really looking to date or marry him. Besides, she was a player too!
She thought, 'Perfect! No one will interfere with the other! If we met in a nightclub, we might even have fun together.'
Most importantly, Simon was the type to break up cleanly. He might be a jerk, but it also meant he could let go easily.
When they parted ways in the future, there would be no messy entanglements.
The more Juniper thought about it, the more satisfied she became. "Alright, shall we go inside and talk?"
Simon snorted, "Talk then, I'm not afraid."
Juniper smiled in satisfaction.
"What are you standing there for? Let's go." She tugged at his tie.
Simon stumbled forward.
He thought, 'Why is this woman so rough? Not gentle at all.'
Amara lost the baby, and Elodie was down for two days.
But only two days.
Without having to take care of that bitch Amara, or even see her again, Elodie was overjoyed.
She returned to her leisurely days of social gatherings and card games.
Today, a friend had organized an afternoon tea.
High-quality floral tea, paired with exquisite and delicious snacks. Elodie wore the latest Chanel ready-to-wear, sitting on a soft and comfortable leather sofa, enjoying the music and chatting with others.
"Haven't seen you in a while, Mrs. Wipere. You don't look well. Are things okay at home?" The speaker was a middle-aged woman with a listed company in her family, quite famous in the investment circle.
She had a plump and round face with two dimples that looked very endearing, but her words were not so pleasant.
Elodie's smile froze, but soon, her lips curved into a bigger smile. "What are you talking about? Everything's fine at home. It's just me, not doing well. When it gets hot, I can't sleep well, and my skin gets worse."
"Really?" The plump woman pursed her lips.
She thought, 'As if we don't know? Elodie's son's girlfriend had a miscarriage, lying alone in the hospital, and Elodie hasn't even visited her once. Only Elodie could do such a thing.'
"Bad skin is one thing, but a bad heart is a real problem, right, Mrs. Wipere?"
Elodie frowned, sensing the hidden meaning in her words, but didn't dare to retort.
Elodie thought, 'If she gets angry, who knows what she might spill.'
Losing even the facade of decency would be a loss.
"It's a bit stuffy in here, I'll go to the lobby for some air." Elodie stood up gracefully and nodded slightly to everyone.
After Elodie left.
"What's she pretending for? Everyone knows her family's mess."
"Can't say that. Her son's girlfriend had a miscarriage, she probably hasn't slept well these days."
"Serves her right! What good girl would put up with her?"
"They both asked for it. Let's just take it as a joke."
"True."
Elodie didn't hear their gossip, so she could pretend not to know.
She left the private room and went to the lobby, about to ask the waiter for a glass of water, when she heard a commotion at the front desk.
"Ma'am, you don't have an appointment, you can't go in!"
"This isn't a hospital, why do I need an appointment? I'm here to find someone, move aside, or I'll be rude!"
