Chapter 245 You Let All That Go To Waste
"Camilla grew up in a loving family. Do you know what that means?" Marcus said.
Leopold turned around.
Marcus enunciated each word, "It means Camilla has the confidence to love and the courage to break free. Maybe that's why, when she was with you, she was so determined, even willing to go against the world. Too bad you let all that go to waste."
"Maybe, to you and others, Camilla's actions and her unconditional tolerance were just her being blinded by love. But I know she isn't like that. She just wanted to give her all, without reservation, for the man she chose and the decision she made. And in the end, all she wanted was a good beginning and a good ending."
Marcus knew how to hit where it hurt.
Leopold staggered, his eyes reddening. "Are you showing off?"
"You could think of it that way." Marcus spread his hands, not even bothering to hide it. "A child raised in such a family inevitably has high standards for relationships. Camilla wants a complete, accepting, clean, and pure love. Not a choice made after weighing the pros and cons."
Marcus thought Leopold was terrible, but he wasn't much better himself.
He was used to scheming, planning, and being cautious. In the past, he would never have given up so many profitable projects just to pursue a woman.
Because, as Leopold said, chasing women and making money aren't mutually exclusive.
But suddenly, Marcus didn't want to calculate everything so clearly.
He wanted to be reckless for Camilla, just once.
Maybe twice, three times... countless times.
In the end, Leopold slammed the door and left, the sound echoing loudly.
Oliver and Simon stood behind the door, stunned.
Oliver muttered, "It feels like Leopold is about to kill someone."
Marcus called the waiter to clean up the broken pieces on the floor. Meanwhile, he made a third cup of tea.
He said, "Come and try it. This tea tastes better when it's cold."
Simon raised his hand to take it, took a sip, and couldn't tell the difference from regular tea.
But he didn't dare say anything.
Oliver patted his belly and burped. "I think I'll pass. I drank so much earlier, I'm full."
Marcus shook his head, with a regretful expression as if saying, "You have no idea what you're missing."
Oliver didn't care, his eyes rolled, and he leaned in to ask. "Marcus, did you really meet Camilla's parents this time?"
Simon held his teacup, pretending to savor it, but his gossip radar was fully activated.
Marcus raised an eyebrow. "What else? You think I was lying to him?"
"So, do her parents know you are into Camilla?"
"Not really. But I can gain her parents' favor."
"So, you've already gained her parents' favor?"
Marcus rubbed the rim of his teacup. "I think so."
Simon suddenly realized. "I get why you suddenly asked us out for tea. It was to show off!"
Marcus lowered his head and took another sip.
He thought, 'This tea is really fragrant.'
After leaving the tea house, Leopold immediately returned to the office.
He called his assistant. "Organize all the projects we have in collaboration with Marcus. I want the results within two hours."
The assistant was stunned. "Including third-party led projects?"
"Yes."
"Understood."
An hour later, the organized documents were placed on Leopold's desk. The assistant quietly left, not forgetting to close the door.
Leopold quickly went through them and called the project manager. "Terminate all these projects."
"What?" The manager thought he misheard.
These were the company's most important projects, some of which were about to yield returns. And now, suddenly, they were to be terminated!
Leopold glanced at him. "Did I stutter?"
"No."
"Is it hard to understand?"
"Not really."
"Then what's the problem?"
The manager was sweating. "Mr. Wipere, I don't understand..."
"You don't need to understand, just do it."
Over twenty projects, from sorting out to termination, minimizing losses—these were all specific issues.
By the time Leopold finished, it was late at night.
He stood by the office's floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the distant night, the moonlight bright, the city lights twinkling.
When she was with you, she was so determined, even willing to go against the world...
Too bad you let all that go to waste...
Marcus's words echoed in his mind.
Leopold let out a bitter laugh. Regret comes in many forms, and the hardest to accept was when everyone told him what a great woman he missed.
But before this, they said nothing.
They waited until everything was irreparable to tell him.
Leopold felt a deep sense of powerlessness, which peaked when he returned to his villa and saw the empty living room.
He thought, 'What should I do? What could I do? Marcus said he had already met her parents...'
At dawn, the golden sunlight spread across the land.
Camilla got up and prepared breakfast. Without waking Alistair and Bella, she ate and quietly went out for her morning exercise.
With no classes in the morning, she went to the market after her exercise.
So, when Alistair and Bella woke up, not only was breakfast ready, but fresh vegetables and meat were also bought.
"Camilla, when did you get up?"
"Six-thirty."
"So early?"
"Biological clock, woke up naturally."
As soon as Alistair entered the kitchen and saw the meat and vegetables, he guessed. "Went to the market?"
Camilla nodded. "Today's pork ribs are very fresh. Dad, let's have roasted pork ribs for lunch?"
Alistair replied, "Sure! I'll handle it, you don't have to do anything."
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
Bella was having breakfast and was surprised by the noise. "Who could it be?"
It was so early.
She went to open the door.
The first thing she saw was a pile of colorful gift boxes.
Looking up, a somewhat familiar face appeared.
Bella found it familiar but couldn't recall immediately. "May I ask who you are?"
Leopold's smile froze. "Hello, I'm Leopold Wipere."
Bella's expression hardened, her previously puzzled and slightly apologetic look turning cold and stern. "What are you doing here?"
"I heard you and Alistair came to the city, so I came to visit. These gifts are a small token, nothing valuable, please accept them."
Bella didn't move, her scrutinizing gaze fixed on his face.
In that moment, Leopold felt an overwhelming sense of embarrassment.
In six years of dating Camilla, he had only met her parents once.
And it was just a quick meal before he made an excuse to leave.
So, Leopold's only impression of Camilla's parents was an honest, simple couple.
Ordinary, plain, and unremarkable.
