Chapter 88 The Graduate Exam Results

Everyone bolted up to the second floor, following the noise to Camilla's room, and man, what a sight they walked into.

There was Patricia, plopped on the floor with two bags tossed around her. The second she saw everyone, she started bawling and flailing like a toddler.

She looked like a total mess.

"Patricia, what's going on? Don't freak me out," Heather rushed over, squatting next to her. "Come on, let's get you up."

"No way! If Camilla doesn't say sorry today, I'm not moving an inch!"

Camilla just smirked. "Fine, sit there all you want, or lie down if that's your thing."

"You!"

Heather's eyes narrowed. "Apologize for what? Spill it, what happened?"

"Mom! Camilla hit me!"

"What?" Heather's eyes went wide as she turned to Camilla. "How could you hit Patricia?"

"Heather, I'm really sorry. When I got back to my room, I heard noises from the closet and thought a thief had broken in, so I hit her. But seriously, why was Patricia in my room messing with my stuff?"

Camilla's eyes flicked to the two bags on the floor.

Heather's face went through a bunch of emotions. "Well, Patricia was probably just curious and took your things, but you shouldn't have hit her!"

"I didn't know it was Patricia when I hit her; I thought it was a thief. I mean, who goes through someone else's stuff like that?"

Heather shot Patricia a fierce glare.

Patricia couldn't meet her eyes and bit her lip, looking guilty.

Bella tried to smooth things over with a smile. "It's all a big misunderstanding. No big deal. How about we head to the living room and get ready to eat?"

Just then, a phone rang.

Alistair was closest, and Camilla said, "Dad, can you grab that for me?"

"Sure." But when he picked it up, he accidentally hit the answer button and turned on the speakerphone, so everyone heard. "Camilla, did you check? What's your score? Is it enough to get into Harmony College?!"

Juniper's voice was loud and clear.

Everyone froze.

"Camilla? Why aren't you saying anything? Can you hear me? Hello, hello?"

Camilla snapped out of it and quickly took the phone. "I was just about to check; something came up."

"Forget about it, check the score first! This is more important!"

"Okay."

The call ended, and everyone stared at Camilla, even Patricia, who was still on the floor throwing a fit.

Alistair swallowed nervously and asked, "Camilla, what score are you checking?"

"My grad school entrance exam score."

"You took the grad school exam?" Bella blurted out, surprised.

"Yep."

Heather raised an eyebrow. "At your age, you're still taking the grad school exam?"

"There are people in their forties taking grad school exams. I'm not that old, am I?"

Heather said, "Uh! Why'd you suddenly decide to take the grad school exam?"

"Oh, just for kicks."

"Is today the day the results come out?" Donna smiled, her eyes landing on the laptop nearby. "Looks like Camilla was about to check her results when she found Patricia here. It's good to clear things up; we're all family. Patricia, get up."

Patricia's eyes darted around. Realizing that making a scene wouldn't help her, she hesitated for a couple of seconds before standing up.

But—

"Since you're checking your results, why not let everyone see? Camilla's so capable; she must be confident." Patricia thought, 'Getting into grad school is tough. And from what I heard, she is aiming for Harmony College? Does Camilla really think she's still the same Camilla from back in the day? She's been out of school forever and now she wants to hit the books again? Yeah, right! When those scores come out, she's gonna be so embarrassed!'

Donna chimed in, "I'm kinda curious too."

Laura smirked. "Yeah, we're all dying to know. Camilla, why don't you check? Let us all see. No pressure, though; it doesn't matter if the score's high or low, or if you get in or not."

Bella shot Camilla a look, wanting to say no.

But Camilla just smiled and said, "Sure thing."

Everyone crowded around the computer. Camilla had already punched in her exam number and password, just needed to hit Enter to see the score.

"Dad, you do the honors."

"Me?"

"Yeah."

"Alright." Alistair rubbed his hands together, took a deep breath, and hit Enter.

The page loaded, then froze, showing it was loading.

Everyone held their breath.

One second, two seconds...

"It's up! It's up!"

Total score: 412.

Heather tugged at the stunned Patricia and whispered, "What's the total score? Four hundred something doesn't seem that high."

Patricia's lips moved, but no sound came out.

"Why aren't you saying anything?"

Donna quickly hid her surprise and smiled slightly. "Bella, the total score is 500. With Camilla's score, she should be in the top three, maybe even first."

Heather's eyes widened in realization. "You mean she got into Harmony College for grad school?!"

Laura kept a straight face. "Technically, getting into grad school involves both a written exam and an interview. Just looking at the written exam score, there's still a lot of uncertainty."

Heather sighed in relief.

She thought, 'No way Camilla's getting into Harmony College that easily, let alone being in the top three.'

Donna smiled and added, "But the written exam score is a big chunk of the total score, and not many people get cut in the interview. Camilla's practically halfway into Harmony College. Congrats, Alistair, Bella."

Alistair was still in shock. Not only had Camilla, who hadn't been home in six years, come back, but she had also given them a villa and aced her grad school exam!

The rift between Alistair and Camilla had always been about this. Alistair felt she shouldn't waste her talent; going to grad school and getting a PhD were part of the plan.

But Camilla had ditched it all for a guy, which was a huge blow to a dad who had spent over twenty years nurturing his daughter.

Now, everything was falling into place.

"Thanks, Donna," Bella said.

Donna added, "Now Camilla is the most educated Moore member of the Learmond family. That's awesome."

Patricia's face darkened.

Heather's lips tightened.

Laura said, "Donna, maybe you should wait until she gets the acceptance letter to say that."

The meal was eaten in an awkward silence.

Everyone had their own thoughts, and after eating, they didn't want to stick around and left one by one.

Soon it was Bella's birthday.

The constant rain and snow had cleared, and new sprouts were popping up on the lawn, bringing more life to the yard.

Bella didn't like sweets, so there was no cake.

Camilla personally made Mexican burritos for her.

The gift was a set of out-of-print original books that had been carefully picked out long ago.

Camilla had searched high and low and finally found them on some obscure foreign book website. It took half a month just to get them shipped over.
