Chapter 273 Of Course, It's to Send Camilla Home
Their eyes met, and Leopold's deep gaze penetrated hers. "You know what I want."
Camilla frowned.
"Come back to me and I can give you anything you want."
"Impossible!" Camilla's response was firm.
Leopold gave a bitter smile. "I know you must think I'm despicable, but I really can't live without you. Please come back to me. I promise, from now on, there will only be you. I'll change everything you don't like. Trust me one more time, okay?"
After speaking, he eagerly tried to grab Camilla's hand, but she mercilessly avoided him. "I don't believe you at all, and I won't agree to your demands."
She put away the documents and pen. "I shouldn't have come today. If you don't want to sign, then don't." With that, she stood up and left quickly.
Even though she had long given up hope on Leopold, she was still shocked by how shameless the man she once loved could be after hearing those words.
Outside the restaurant, Camilla raised her hand to hail a taxi. But before she could get in, her wrist was forcefully grabbed and pulled back by Leopold. The driver, seeing this, thought they were having a dispute and drove away immediately.
"What are you doing? Leopold!"
"You always leave without a word. Camilla, you really know how to torture me!"
"So it's all my fault, right? Go let your mom pamper you. I have no obligation to do so!"
Leopold's face paled. He tightened his grip on her hand, his breath unsteady. Finally, he calmed down and, with restraint, said, "I'll take you home."
"I can go back myself."
"Do you have to be so stubborn?"
"I just don't want to see you."
As Leopold reached out again, Marcus suddenly appeared, blocking his way to Camilla. "She said she doesn't want to, don't you understand?"
Their eyes locked. Marcus's expression grew fiercer, his presence intimidating. Leopold, not to be outdone, sizing him up coldly.
"This is between her and me; you'd better stay out of it!"
Marcus smirked. "Her business is my business, and I insist on getting involved. What are you going to do about it?"
"What are you to her? What right do you have to interfere!"
"My relationship with her is definitely closer than yours."
Leopold fell silent.
Marcus turned to Camilla, his voice instantly softening. "Are you okay?"
She gently shook her head. "Can you take me home?"
"My pleasure."
With that, Marcus opened the car door and Camilla got in.
Leopold clenched his fists, watching helplessly as Marcus took her away.
But did she think this was the end? The papers weren't signed yet, they had a long way to go!
In the car, Camilla watched the bustling street outside.
Marcus noticed her low mood and irritation, and silently turned on the music.
"Feeling any better now?"
Camilla said, "Thank you."
"Let me tell you a joke. Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field! How was it? Funny?"
Camilla forced a smile.
Marcus suddenly became serious. "What happened? Is there any reason you had to see him?"
Camilla raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Why do you say that?"
"You hate Leopold so much. Why would you have a meal with him? Unless you needed something from him. Can you tell me specifically?"
Camilla thought for a moment and slowly explained it.
Marcus commented, "So, you need his signed consent to complete the procedures?"
"Yes."
"Can't you just find someone else to sign it?"
Camilla turned her head, staring straight at him.
Marcus coughed lightly. "Just kidding."
"I thought money and approvals would be the biggest issues, but it turns out the problem is on my end."
"He didn't sign?"
"Yeah."
Marcus's eyes darkened. "What conditions did he set?"
Camilla didn't speak.
"Did he ask you to come back to him? To start over?"
Did Marcus have a bug hidden under the table?
"What a shameless move! Still thinking about getting back together? Talk about lacking self-awareness!"
Camilla murmured, "Look who's talking! The thick-skinned one is calling someone else shameless."
"What's got you mumbling?"
"Am I?"
"Definitely!" Marcus had a stern face, as if saying, "I already guessed; don't pretend."
Camilla didn't respond.
"It must not be anything good, right? You weren't secretly cursing me, were you?"
"Not to that extent."
Marcus asked, "Where did you say that land was?"
"The east suburbs."
"The location is not bad—it's not far from downtown and has convenient transportation. Did he give it to you when you broke up?"
Camilla's mouth twitched. "Why do you have so many questions?"
"This matter is really tricky. We can't force him to sign, but it's not the only way."
Camilla's eyes lit up. "You have another way?"
"Yes."
Her eyes shone even brighter.
Marcus said, "I also have land in the east suburbs, and you can use it to build the lab."
Camilla was shocked. He said it so simply, but this was land, not a toy!
"Forget it, I don't have money to buy your land."
"It's free."
"Then I definitely can't take it!"
"How about you give as much money as you want?"
Camilla was puzzled, "Mr. Davis, is your land unsellable? Forcing it on others?"
Marcus smirked. "To me, you're not 'others.'"
Camilla was speechless.
Before getting out of the car, Camilla reiterated her stance. "I appreciate your help, but I'll find a way to solve this myself."
Marcus felt a bit disappointed but not surprised. "Okay."
If she were easily moved by these things, she wouldn't be Camilla.
Back home, Camilla sat on the couch, looking at the documents and pen she brought back untouched, and couldn't help but sigh.
Downstairs, Sebastian returned from the lab and ran into Marcus's car at the alley entrance.
He hadn't noticed at first, but Marcus stopped and greeted him. "Good afternoon, Sebastian."
Sebastian turned his head, meeting his half-smiling eyes, and asked calmly, "Mr. Davis, what are you doing here?"
"Of course, I was bringing Camilla home."
