Chapter 226 Capability

The crowd was puzzled.

Even the student who was presenting stopped to look at Dwayne's strange behavior.

Another vice principal nearby coughed heavily twice, reminding Dwayne to be mindful of his conduct.

What could be so exciting?

Has he forgotten about his personal image?

Unexpectedly, the exhilarated Dwayne grabbed the microphone, took several deep breaths before speaking, barely managing to steady his emotions. "We just received official news that a student from the School of Life Sciences has published a Compass article in Science as the first author!"

The Science mainly had three sections. Science News, Science's Compass, and Research.

As soon as Dwayne finished speaking, there was a collective gasp from the audience.

"Oh my God! Is there something wrong with my ears?"

"Is it the Science? This is terrifying!"

"From our school? Who?"

"It must be Ignatius. He published one before, so it's not surprising if he publishes another."

"No wonder he's the man I admire, Ignatius!"

Almost everyone assumed that the student Dwayne mentioned was Ignatius.

Even Calliope subconsciously raised her chin; this was her student, her proudest disciple!

However, as a mentor, she forgot that Ignatius had no plans to publish in Science this year.

If he did, she, as his mentor, should be the corresponding author.

So it was impossible for a student to secretly publish in Science without her knowing.

Bronte bit her lip and glared at Ignatius.

He took two weeks to grudgingly give her an SCI paper, but secretly published in Science himself!

This was outrageous.

If she had published that Science paper...

Just thinking about it made Bronte feel elated.

Azalea and Clara also showed varying degrees of envy in their eyes.

Irvin realized and excitedly looked at Ignatius. "Ignatius! It's you, right? I knew it!"

He chuckled. "You said you wouldn't publish, but you aimed for the best! Ignatius, you're amazing! My dad says this is called doing big things quietly! I must learn from you!"

Ignatius was about to say something when suddenly.

Noe stood up and started clapping. "This is great! This is not only a personal honor but also an honor for the school! Congratulations..."

"Yes!" Dwayne nodded repeatedly.

Dwayne's face was filled with joy as he continued from Noe. "Let's congratulate Camilla Learmond!"

The room fell silent instantly.

Noe's hands were in mid-air, unsure whether to clap or not, standing there awkwardly.

In the dead silence, someone whispered, "Isn't it Ignatius?"

It was like a drop of water splashing into a hot pan, causing an uproar.

"Who is Camilla?"

"Camilla Learmond? How come we've never heard of her before? And she publishes in the Science right off the bat, isn't that too much?"

"First-year grad student, Professor Garcia's student."

"In this batch of first-year students, I only know the genius girl Bronte. Where did this Camilla come from?"

"Bronte is nothing compared to the original genius girl of our School of Life Sciences! She won gold medals in the International Olympiad in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science during high school and got a rare direct PhD admission in our school's history. She peaked at her debut."

"I've heard of her! Also Professor Garcia's student, and I think her last name is also Learmond, but she gave up later."

"Also Learmond? Could it be Camilla?"

Hestia swallowed and turned to look at Camilla beside her, as if seeing her for the first time. "Camilla, there's no one else in our school with your name, right?"

Royce's mouth twitched. "Are you stupid?"

Hestia glared. "What do you know? This is called careful verification! I don't want to get excited for nothing."

Camilla snapped out of her daze and couldn't help but laugh. "There shouldn't be, right?"

"Wow! So it's you who published it, right?" Hestia jumped up, "Oh my god! You're amazing! Camilla, I love you so much."

Royce said, "Look at you. It's not your work."

Hestia snorted. "If you're so capable, then don't be in our group."

Royce didn't respond.

He directly ignored her and turned to ask Camilla. "When did you submit to the Science?"

Hestia immediately perked up her ears.

Camilla replied, "Before the semester started."

"No wonder." Royce thought, 'But before the semester started, where did she get the project, the lab, the corresponding author?'

Dwayne stood on stage, clapping wildly. "Now let's invite Camilla to come up and say a few words? Share some experience?"

"Yes! Come on stage! Come on stage!"

The applause was enthusiastic.

Even Ignatius couldn't help but clap.

Irvin was stunned, "Ignatius, you..." Aren't disappointed?

Ignatius finally showed a slight smile. "There are many excellent people, and geniuses are everywhere."

He paused, "Scientific research should not be a one-man show."

All flowers blooming was true prosperity.

Unfortunately, some people didn't understand this.

Bronte's face went through a range of emotions from shock, unwillingness, resentment, to astonishment, disbelief, and incredulity upon hearing the name Camilla. Her face changed dramaticly.

Calliope's smile also vanished, her eyes turning cold.

Camilla was half-pushed onto the stage.

There wasn't much to say.

"Academia is a long process, and scientific research is a journey destined to be arduous. Some people get lost along the way, but only by staying true to the mission can one achieve the ultimate goal. Thank you."

After speaking, Camilla bowed at a forty-five-degree angle and smiled at Calliope's team when she stood up.

The implication of her words was obvious.

Calliope's expression stiffened, and a hint of guilt flashed in her eyes.

Ignatius's gaze was deep and profound.

At this moment, Bronte suddenly stood up. "Mr. Larson, I have a question."

"Go ahead."

"We've been in school for less than two months, and Camilla quietly published a paper in Science. Isn't that strange?"

It was important to know that the value of a Science paper was far beyond that of an ordinary SCI paper, and the difficulty was incomparable.

Not to mention other aspects, just the acceptance rate.

Science published about 20 papers per week. Due to space limitations, many high-quality papers were rejected even before peer review.

Each year, about 7,000 manuscripts were submitted to Science, but only about 15% are accepted.

Although Camilla's paper was a Compass article and not a full Research article, the acceptance rate was not much different.

Many scientists took at least a year to prepare a Science paper, including but not limited to topic discussion, experimental evidence, and conclusion analysis.

And it might still get rejected.

How did Camilla accomplish in two months what others couldn't in years or even decades?

Unless...

Bronte said loudly, "She cheated!"
