Chapter 251 A Sense of Familiarity Lingers in the Heart
In the end, it was Sebastian who led her through the crowd, squeezing to the outer edge.
Finally, no one was pushing her anymore.
Camilla let out a long breath.
However, the next second, she looked up and unexpectedly met the man's smiling eyes. "Sorry, I..."
Sebastian pointed to the side of her cheek. "Your hair is stuck."
"What?" Camilla instinctively raised her hand but missed the spot.
Sebastian simply helped her remove it. Despite being careful, his fingertips inevitably brushed against Camilla's smooth, warm skin.
He steadied himself. "All set."
Camilla awkwardly tucked the strand of hair behind her ear. The crowd had messed up her hair, and a bit of sweat had caused a few strands to stick to her cheek. So embarrassing.
Thinking about how she had just bumped into Sebastian's arms, Camilla's cheeks burned, and her breathing quickened.
She couldn't stay there any longer and said to Sebastian, "Are you thirsty? I'll go downstairs to buy two bottles of water!"
Sebastian was about to say he wasn't thirsty and could go buy it if she wanted some, but Camilla slipped away.
Camilla took the elevator from the third floor to the first floor. Looking back and not seeing Sebastian's figure, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
As soon as she turned around, she bumped into Marcus, who was accompanied by two elderly people: Elijah Langley, with his white hair, square face, and deep vertical lines between his brows, giving an impression of excessive sternness and a bad temper. Beside him was Isadora Penrose, whose expression was slightly softer but looked somewhat sorrowful, her eyes vacant and a cane in her hand.
Perhaps sensing Camilla's gaze, Isadora instinctively turned her head, her eyes briefly showing confusion before quickly looking away.
Marcus didn't expect to run into her.
He had specifically taken the day off to accompany his grandparents, Elijah and Isadora, for a walk.
His grandparents had returned to the country a week ago. Marcus had someone prepare the the old Langley Mansion, but Isadora had only stayed one night before being hospitalized due to acclimatization issues.
Today, she was discharged, and Marcus went to pick her up. Passing through the downtown area, Elijah and Isadora suddenly wanted to take a walk.
As they walked, they ended up in a bookstore.
He remembered Bella's book signing was today, so it made sense for Camilla to be here.
After greeting each other, Marcus briefly introduced Elijah and Isadora.
While Marcus spoke, Elijah couldn't help but scrutinize Camilla with his sharp eyes.
Many young women today strive for a thin ideal, often appearing emaciated and lacking vitality. But Camilla was different. With soft features, a well-proportioned figure, and a high ponytail, she looked vibrant and healthy. Especially her eyes, clear and bright, with light brown pupils like translucent amber, reminded him of another pair of eyes, curved and smiling like crescent moons.
Camilla smiled and greeted them and Elijah actually returned her smile with a "Hello."
Marcus noticed this and was surprised. In his impression, Elijah was always stern and strict with the younger generation.
The servants at the old house said that Elijah and Isadora used to have good temperaments and never lost their tempers. But everything changed after their youngest daughter went missing.
This was also directly related to Elijah and Isadora living abroad for a long time.
Thinking of their youngest daughter, who was still missing, Marcus couldn't help but look at them.
If she was never found, they would likely be haunted by this regret for the rest of their lives.
"Marcus, I'm a bit thirsty," Isadora suddenly said.
"Grandma, wait here. I'll go buy some water." Then he looked at Camilla. "Are you busy?"
"Not really. Do you need me to do something?"
"Can you keep them company while I go buy water?"
"How about I go buy it?" After all, she had come down to buy water.
Marcus shook his head. "My grandma's health isn't good. She only drinks a specific brand of alkaline water, which isn't available nearby. I have to go to the supermarket across the street."
"I see. Then you go ahead. I'll stay here with them. Don't worry."
"Thank you." Marcus turned and left.
Isadora pulled Camilla to sit beside her. "Marcus said you two are friends. How did you meet?"
"Through a mutual friend."
Leopold could be considered that "mutual friend."
"I see. It's rare for him to be friends with a girl. You're the first!" Isadora smiled.
Camilla thought, "You haven't seen how he swaps girlfriends as often as he changes outfits.'
"It's been so long since we came back. Everything has changed so much," Elijah suddenly sighed.
Camilla heard the nostalgia in his voice and started talking about the recent changes in Imperial City.
Elijah listened to her effortlessly, as if she was very familiar with Imperial City, and asked, "Are you a local?"
Camilla shook her head. "I grew up in Starlight City. Have you heard of it? It's nestled in the southern hills, where the seasons are distinct and the landscape is adorned with mountains and rivers."
Camilla described it in detail, and Elijah's vague impression gradually became clearer. "Starlight City, huh? I visited there in my early years. If I get the chance, I'd like to visit again."
As the head of the Langley Family, even though he was now old and had handed over the business to professional managers, his years of authority still lingered. Most young people didn't dare to look him in the eye, let alone chat with him.
But Camilla had no such concerns. To her, they were just ordinary elderly people.
"How old are you?" Isadora asked, looking at Camilla.
Camilla answered each question.
Isadora asked more, such as about her family and where she worked.
Camilla sensed no malice but still maintained some caution since they had just met, so she answered briefly without going into detail.
Elijah was a bit surprised. Isadora seemed unusually talkative today.
Isadora seemed to sense Camilla's caution from her brief answers and smiled, explaining, "Your voice sounds very familiar to me, so I asked a few more questions. I hope you don't mind."
Camilla noticed that Isadora's gaze was unfocused, but she could still make out vague shadows.
Sure enough, in Isadora's eyes, Camilla appeared as a blurry silhouette, with only the outline faintly visible and the facial features indistinguishable.
Even so, hearing Camilla's voice gave Isadora a sense of familiarity, which made her feel naturally affectionate.
So she asked a few more questions, like she would with her own younger relatives.
