Chapter 294 Marcus? A Bad Man?

Marcus frowned, interrupting impatiently, "Shut up!"

The man shrunk back, not daring to speak again.

The familiar voice made Camilla instinctively look over.

Just then, Tobias called out to her, "Camilla, come sit with us!"

Marcus turned his head sharply.

Their eyes met, and both were momentarily stunned.

Marcus recovered first, smiled and walked toward her, his eyes full of surprise and delight. "What are you doing here?!"

"Checking out the construction site."

"What construction site are you looking at?"

Camilla replied, "Am I not allowed to look at construction sites?"

"Seriously, you're not even studying this field, nor do you make money from it. What are you looking at? Just curious, or for fun?"

Camilla cleared her throat lightly. "I have a piece of land here where I'm planning to build a house. Is that a problem?"

"Here? You have land?"

Marcus suddenly remembered something, his expression changing. "The plot Leopold gave you back then?"

"How do you know about that?" Camilla's eyes widened.

Marcus scoffed, "There's nothing about you and him that I don't know."

Back then, before Leopold gifted the land, he had asked for Marcus's opinion. When Marcus saw the transfer contract, he couldn't help but frown.

He both despised Leopold's stinginess and felt Camilla's years of hard work were undervalued.

The company they co-founded had gone public, and all the co-founder got was a check and a piece of land?

Treating her like a beggar?

Leopold had some nerve!

Only Camilla would tolerate him and be so accommodating. Any other entrepreneur would never agree to such an unreasonable distribution of benefits.

Sure enough, Camilla accepted it in the end, without asking Leopold for shares.

When Marcus found out, he was green with envy. He thought, 'Why? Why does a jerk like Leopold get to meet such a wonderful woman? I was just missed by a step!'

"Marcus? Marcus!" Camilla called his name twice. "What are you thinking about? You didn't respond when I called."

"Never mind, go on."

"I asked, what are you doing here?"

"Me? I have a resort project here. Construction started last month, and I came to check on the progress today."

Camilla blinked. "You're into physical assets now?"

As far as she knew, Marcus was more involved in financial investments, making quick money on trending markets—high leverage, high risk, high returns.

Upon hearing this, Marcus's lips curled into a pleased smile. "So you know what kinds of investments I primarily make?"

He thought, 'Seems she's been keeping tabs on me.'

Camilla didn't understand why he looked so pleased. "When you guys used to get together, wasn't that all you talked about? I wasn't deaf sitting there; I picked up a thing or two."

"I not only know you do financial investments, but also that Oliver prefers entertainment ventures, and Simon jumps on whatever's trending," she added.

Marcus's upturned smile eventually drooped.

While they were talking, Tobias was sitting nearby, his frown deepening the more he watched.

He was right there, and someone was already trying to chat up Camilla, someone who didn't look particularly trustworthy.

He immediately went over and took Camilla's hand. "Come on, Camilla, let's sit over there."

Camilla?

And he was holding her hand!

Marcus's face darkened instantly, his gaze on Tobias's hand like a steel knife, as if he wanted to pierce right through it.

The key thing was that Camilla wasn't even upset!

She just let him grab her like that?

And even nodded obediently saying, "Okay."

And then she just let him lead her away?

Marcus watched, his eyes burning with anger. Who did this guy think he was?

Usually, if Marcus accidentally brushed against Camilla, she'd jump two steps away. But with this guy...

Clearly, he hadn't been paying attention when Tobias was chatting with the owner earlier!

"Mr. Davis? Mr. Davis!" The project manager accompanying Marcus called out twice without response, then had to raise his voice and call again.

"What is it?" Marcus replied coldly.

The icy gaze shot toward him, making the project manager feel his scalp tingle and his breathing constrict.

"Your phone is ringing."

He swallowed hard and wiped away sweat.

Marcus took out his phone and declined the call without expression.

The project manager's heart sank, growing more anxious.

Meanwhile, Tobias and Camilla had already started eating.

Tobias asked, "How's the taste?"

Camilla nodded immediately. "Delicious!"

"This restaurant specializes in serving construction sites. Not only is the food good, but the portions are generous," Tobias said.

"By the way, that guy from earlier—he clearly doesn't look like good news. A young woman like you needs to be careful when out alone. Don't think I'm nagging, but it's better to be safe than sorry," he added.

At this moment, Tobias's big brother instincts were in full force.

Especially with Alistair and Bella not around, he felt even more responsible for guiding Camilla.

Meanwhile, Marcus, unaware he'd been classified as a "bad man," had no appetite. The delicious-looking dishes before him held no appeal.

His mind and eyes were fixed on the man and woman sitting not far away, chatting and laughing together.

Especially when he saw the man offering food from his own bowl to Camilla, and Camilla not refusing, Marcus grew so angry his eyes reddened and his jaw tightened.

The starving project manager beside him was helpless.

Not only did he have to watch Marcus's expression darken and the atmosphere grow increasingly tense, but he also had to smell the delicious food without touching it.

Suddenly, Marcus stood up, carrying his plate toward Camilla's table.

"Camilla, mind if I join you?"

Marcus asked with a smile, thinking himself charming.

However, the reality was quite different.

Marcus was wearing drab work clothes and a dirt-covered safety helmet—honestly, he looked just as unappealing as Tobias.

Camilla paused briefly, then quickly replied, "Not at all, please sit!"

She even smiled at him.

When Marcus had walked over, Camilla had a sudden inspiration.

Since he had a construction site here—a sizable resort project—he must have quite a few workers at his disposal, right?

Could she perhaps...

Camilla began plotting in her mind.

Unfortunately, Marcus didn't catch on. All he knew was that the girl he liked had smiled at him.

Immediately, his heart bloomed with joy.

He even threw a challenging look at Tobias, thinking, ' Who are you? You're not even in my league!'

Tobias was confused. This guy was quite arrogant!
