Chapter 31 Men One After Another

Lucas was totally the student Aurora had pinned her hopes on. Even though he and Camilla weren't studying the same thing, they still clicked when they talked.

As their convo got deeper, Camilla was all smiles.

She was gearing up for her grad exams. She had most of the stuff down, but the big research trends in her field? That was a whole different ball game, needing tons of paper reading, and you can't just cram that overnight.

Lucas, being a grad student right now, obviously knew more than Camilla, who'd been out of the school scene for a few years.

Behind them, Leopold watched them chat it up and couldn't help but clench his fists.

Camilla was so cold to him, wouldn't even see him, but here she was, grinning ear to ear with another dude.

Camilla had whipped up a feast, with all sorts of flavors.

Even though Lucas knew she could cook, he was still blown away by the spread. "Isn't this way too much food for just us two?"

Camilla grinned, "You've helped me so much; I had to go all out to say thanks."

Lucas scratched his head, a bit shy, "Honestly, I didn't do much. You're better than I thought."

While studying together, he could see Camilla's progress clear as day.

She could connect the dots from one example and had a killer memory. Once she got something, she rarely needed a second run-through.

"Studying is just part of it. What I'm super grateful for, besides you helping me find research stuff, is that thanks to you, I could borrow original resources that only Harmony College students can get."

Lucas was a bit taken aback, "So you were tackling research papers while studying."

He suddenly got why Aurora thought so highly of her.

After eating, Lucas hung out for a bit. When it got totally dark, he got up to leave.

Camilla walked him downstairs, taking out the trash on the way.

"Your cooking is seriously good, thanks."

"No problem."

Lucas scratched his head, "I'm heading back to school now. See you at the library tomorrow?"

"Sure thing."

Just then, Sebastian walked up, probably just back from the lab, looking all serious.

"Professor Russell!" Lucas stood up straight, "Do you live here too?"

Sebastian looked up and saw Camilla standing with a Moore guy in front of the building.

His eyes landed on Lucas's face, which seemed kinda familiar.

He said, "You from Harmony College?"

"Yeah, Professor Russell. I'm from the School of Life Sciences. I took your Basic Principles of Physics class."

"Got it."

Camilla wanted to say hi to Sebastian, but he didn't seem to notice her.

Lucas stepped aside, and Sebastian went straight upstairs.

Camilla shrugged.

"I didn't know Professor Russell lived here too! What a small world!" Lucas said excitedly, "I took his class before; it was awesome. My roommate tried to get in this semester but it was full in no time. I heard most of the spots were snagged by girls."

Sebastian reached the stairwell, glanced back at their backs.

That Moore person, if he remembered correctly, was named Lucas?

First time he saw someone else at Camilla's place. Boyfriend?

Sebastian looked away, chuckling to himself, thinking, 'Why should I care?'

After seeing Lucas off, Camilla turned into another alley to toss the trash.

Halfway there, a shadow suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Camilla's scalp tingled instantly. Just as she was about to struggle, she heard a familiar voice, dripping with sarcasm, "Well, well, Camilla. One guy after another, having quite the fun, huh?"

Leopold's tone turned sinister, "Who was that dude just now? What were you doing upstairs?"

Camilla's smile vanished, her hand aching from his grip. She tried to break free, but Leopold used brute force.

Leopold held so tight that she couldn't get away.

"Leopold, let go!"

"Answer me first!"

Camilla frowned, enduring the pain, "What does it matter to you?"

"As an ex-boyfriend, isn't it reasonable to care about my ex-girlfriend's love life?"

Camilla laughed, looking up calmly, "So, you know I'm your ex. Why are you here?"

Leopold was momentarily speechless, "Can't I just be passing by?"

Just then, a middle-aged man stormed in from the alley entrance, cursing, "Who parked their car at the alley entrance? Can't you see the road is narrow? Just because you drive a sports car doesn't mean you can block the way. No manners at all."

Leopold fell silent.

Camilla immediately recognized the car being cursed at as Leopold's Porsche.

She couldn't be bothered to figure out why Leopold was there. She threw out the trash and turned to leave, "Even if I have a new boyfriend, it's none of your business. We've broken up. Do I need to explain what that means?"

"I don't care about your life, and my life has nothing to do with you. We..." She paused, "should just be strangers. Also, I don't know how you found this place, but please don't come again. I don't want your girlfriend to misunderstand. Since you chose to make her your girlfriend, I hope you can live up to your words and be faithful to her."

Camilla had been hurt before and didn't want Amara to suffer the same.

At such a Moore age, she should be blooming freely instead of being ruined.

Everyone had their own choices. Leopold chose Amara, and Camilla chose to break up. They should both be responsible for their choices.

Leopold stood there, unable to react for a long time.

Camilla turned and left.

Leopold watched her back, feeling panicked for the first time.

It felt like something that belonged to him was slipping away, and he couldn't hold on to it.

"Are you serious, Camilla?"

"Yes." She didn't even look back.

"You said that before."

They had fought before, but none had made Leopold this anxious.

She said "break up" so calmly, as if she really wouldn't come back.

Leopold reached out to stop her but couldn't say a word.

He was the one who suggested the breakup and let go of her first.

Camilla returned home and sat quietly on the sofa.

Leopold's visit didn't faze her.

Compared to the hasty breakup and departure last time, this felt more like a real farewell.

After Camilla left, Leopold stood downstairs for a long time until the middle-aged man, who couldn't stand it anymore, was about to call the police to tow the car. He had no choice but to leave.

"So this car is yours?! What the hell? I've been yelling for ages, are you deaf?"

Leopold floored the gas pedal and sped back to the villa in just twenty minutes.

Mira was in the kitchen making soup. Hearing the noise, she thought something had fallen. The next second, she saw Leopold storming through the living room and heading upstairs without a word.

Mira's heart skipped a beat. She thought, 'What had set him off this time?'
