Chapter 219 Are they Dead?

Clio and Travis exchanged a glance, thinking, 'Are we finally going to talk about the money?'

Clio immediately stepped down from the windowsill.

It was called a window, but it was actually just a small ventilation window that opened up and down. There was no way someone as big as Clio could fall out.

Let alone jump out.

She was just trying to attract attention and force Leopold to show up.

Fortunately, she succeeded.

However, what Clio didn't know was that as she and Travis were happily heading to Leopold's office, the assistant behind them looked at them with an indescribable and deep gaze.

There was even a hint of barely noticeable sympathy.

This was the second time Clio and Travis had come to this office.

It still felt incredibly luxurious.

Clio didn't beat around the bush. As soon as she came in, she named her price. "Five million dollars."

Leopold raised an eyebrow. "Wasn't it fifty million dollars?"

Clio cursed inwardly. She would love to ask for that, but would he give it?

She had realized over time that rich people were indeed wealthy, but they were really stingy too.

They could spend a lot of money on a horse race, a game, or even lose millions in a casino, but they were unwilling to let a little more money slip through their fingers to people like her.

Stingy!

So much money, what was wrong with giving a bit more?!

At the same time, Clio also realized that rich people could bend down or stand tall, and the key was whether she had any value to them.

For example, Elodie, who initially tried to get rid of them with money, had a very low posture.

But once they turned hostile, she acted like she didn't know them, not even answering their calls.

So, when dealing with these upper-class wealthy people, throwing a tantrum was useless.

Not only useless, but it might even annoy them.

So when Clio came in, she didn't cry or make a scene like she did outside; she directly named her price.

"I've thought it through these days. You and Amara were in a consensual relationship, and no one wronged anyone, but you did cause her physical and psychological harm, which is a fact. So, it's only natural for us to ask for compensation, but the amount can be negotiated."

Leopold chuckled. "You've gotten smarter."

"Five million dollars. Give me a straight answer. If it's a yes, we'll take the money and leave, and I guarantee we won't bother you again."

Leopold said, "Five million dollars? I already gave Amara three million dollars before, which means I only need to give two million dollars now."

"What?! You gave Amara three million dollars!" Clio almost jumped up in shock.

Travis also widened his eyes in disbelief.

Why didn't Amara mention a word about it!

Both of them had their own calculations in mind.

Leopold was straightforward. "Leave your bank account number, and I'll have my assistant transfer two million dollars into it."

Clio's eyes flickered. "When will the money be in the account? We came all this way, so it's better to be clear."

"Before noon today."

Clio sighed in relief. "Alright."

"Remember what you just said. Don't let me see you again, otherwise..."

Clio, thinking about the large sum of money she was about to receive, had no other thoughts and quickly promised, "Don't worry, I'm a person of some integrity. Once I get the money, I won't need you to remind me; I'll stay far away!"

Travis swallowed and nodded along. Five million dollars!

He had never seen so much money.

Once they got the money, he would first have Clio buy him a nice car to let everyone know that he, Travis, had made it!

Leopold raised his hand and coldly ordered, "See them out."

The assistant opened the door and said, "This way, please."

Clio and Travis were still floating on air as they walked out of the building.

Although they didn't get fifty million dollars, five million dollars was still a lot!

Even if she had ten lifetimes, she couldn't earn that much money.

Clio and Travis were planning to return to the hotel when a truck drove towards them.

At first, the truck's speed was normal, and neither Clio nor Travis paid any attention.

After all, the truck would avoid them.

However, as they got closer, the truck suddenly accelerated and charged at them.

"Mom!" Travis was scared stiff and instinctively called out to Clio.

Clio reacted quickly and pulled Travis aside. "What's wrong with you?! Didn't you see there were people here? Do you even know how to drive? Are you blind or just brainless? Compensation, you must compensate!"

Clio stood in the middle of the road with her hands on her hips, cursing loudly, "I'm telling you, if this isn't resolved properly, you can't leave! If I hadn't reacted quickly, we would have been hit. We need to go to the hospital and get all the tests done to see if there are any injuries. Even if there aren't, it doesn't mean you're not responsible because you scared us. No matter what, you can't escape a mental distress compensation!"

Travis immediately lay down on the ground and started rolling around. "Mom! I'm scared to death! It's too terrifying! I feel like my mind is not clear. Is it day or night? Why is everything pitch black in front of me?"

Clio and Travis worked together seamlessly.

It was clear they had done this many times before.

However, the driver, wearing a baseball cap, just coldly curled his lips and then floored the gas pedal!

Clio's cursing stopped abruptly.

Travis's pupils trembled.

In front of the floor-to-ceiling window, the tall figure of Leopold was overlooking the street below.

Cars and people were moving in an endless stream.

Leopold checked his watch. Half an hour had passed.

It should be over by now, right?

Sure enough, two minutes later, his phone rang.

He answered but didn't speak.

On the other end, a man's hoarse voice said, "It's done."

Leopold's face was expressionless. "Are they dead?"

"This is the downtown, there are cameras everywhere. I couldn't hit them a second time."

Leopold said, "Listen carefully to my question. Just answer, are they dead or alive?"

"Alive."

As expected. Leopold smiled, but his voice remained cold. "You didn't do a good job."

"Sorry."

"Half the commission."

"Okay."

The call ended, and Leopold put away his phone, coldly staring out the floor-to-ceiling window.

His eyes were filled with murderous intent.

Meanwhile, the truck driver took off his baseball cap and let out a long breath.

Leopold wanted to buy two lives for a million dollars. He wasn't stupid enough to go to prison for a mere hundred thousand dollars.

So he compromised, hitting them but not killing them. Although the commission was halved, he still got fifty thousand dollars.

And he didn't have to take any risks.

The driver whistled in satisfaction.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt this deal was worth it. Plus, he could benefit from both sides. He hoped for more jobs like this in the future.

He smiled and picked up his phone, dialing a number, "Hey, you guessed right. Leopold did pay to have those two killed. Now that I've given you the information, how are you going to pay me?"

"Don't worry, you'll get your money."

The driver grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth.

Sure enough, a few seconds later, he received a payment notification. He opened it to see fifty thousand dollars.

Just for a piece of information?

"Mr. Davis, you're generous."
