Chapter 179 A Man With A Date Is Different
"There are signs pointing to the library along the way." Sebastian explained as they walked. "The north campus is a big loop, and the library is to the right..."
Alistair nodded as he listened, trying to map out the route in his mind.
Unexpectedly, as they were talking, Camilla came upstairs, and they bumped into each other face-to-face.
"Mom? Dad? Are you going out? It's about to rain outside."
Then she noticed Sebastian was there too. "Sebastian, what are you doing here?"
Bella gave a brief explanation.
After hearing it, Camilla immediately thanked Sebastian.
Sebastian just waved his hand, "No problem, glad you're back."
The four of them walked back.
"Thanks a lot, Sebastian. How about coming over for dinner sometime? I'll cook and let you try my cooking!" Alistair enthusiastically invited.
Bella nodded in agreement.
When it came to inviting people over for meals, the three of them were exactly alike.
But there were differences too. Alistair did it to show off his cooking.
Bella did it out of pure enthusiasm.
Camilla just loved cooking, and when she made too much, having more people to eat it was perfect!
Sebastian glanced at Camilla without a word and nodded in agreement.
Back home, Bella teased Alistair, "Look at you, so eager to show off your cooking skills to Sebastian."
Alistair chuckled, "Good cooking should be shown off! How else will people know?"
"Show-off!"
Camilla changed into her slippers and walked inside, casually asking, "Dad, since when did you get so close with Sebastian?"
Alistair replied, "You don't get it. Sebastian and I both study physics and love playing chess, so we naturally started talking more."
Bella bluntly exposed him, "Don't listen to him. Your dad just wants someone to discuss his papers with."
Bella didn't understand the specialized knowledge in physics, so she couldn't discuss it with him.
Alistair's students were all high schoolers, learning basic physics concepts, far from the specialized fields and complex research papers.
When Camilla was in high school, she could at least listen to him talk, even if she couldn't discuss it. Alistair could still express himself smoothly.
After Camilla went to college, he could only bury himself in his papers alone.
No one understood his academic loneliness until he met Sebastian!
"Sebastian is really great."
This was the second time Camilla had heard this in recent days.
A couple of days later, Alistair suddenly brought up the dinner, "Camilla, did you inform Sebastian?"
Camilla was a bit confused, "I thought you were just being polite."
"Says who? We invited him, so we have to follow through." He put on a serious face.
Then he turned to Bella, immediately switching to a smile, "Right, honey?"
Camilla was helpless.
Alistair said, "Camilla, this glorious task is yours. Call or message him, just make sure the invitation is delivered. Whether he comes or not is up to him. Your mom and I will go grocery shopping."
With that, they hurried out.
Camilla was left feeling numb.
She thought, 'Oh well, as long as they're happy.'
In the lab. Sebastian was checking two sets of data from last week and found a deviation in the fourth column of the second set. He was about to call Darren when his phone rang.
He answered casually, "Hello?"
"It's Camilla."
Sebastian paused.
His gaze slowly moved away from the screen, and his tone softened, "What's up? Do you need something?"
"My dad wanted to invite you over for dinner. He'll be cooking. If you're busy, it's okay. I'll let him know..."
"I'm free."
Camilla paused for a few seconds, "Isn't the lab busy?"
"It's manageable."
Sebastian said, "See you tonight. Thank your dad for me; it's kind of him to cook."
"You're welcome."
After hanging up, Camilla was a bit puzzled.
She thought, 'Something's not right.'
Yesterday, Betty had texted her complaining about the tight schedule and how the whole team was swamped.
How could Sebastian say manageable?
On the other side, Hector saw Sebastian finish the call and nudged his shoulder, "Who were you talking to? Was it Camilla? I heard her voice."
Sebastian glanced at him, "If you know, why ask?"
Hector chuckled, "I've pulled three all-nighters, and Betty and Darren are also exhausted. Only you can say 'manageable' so casually. I guess a man with a date is different."
Actually, Sebastian had pulled more all-nighters than anyone, but he made it sound so easy.
Were the others doing fake experiments, writing fake reports, and drafting fake papers?
Sebastian moved away from him and pointed at his watch, "If I remember correctly, it's been over nine hours since you received the initial experimental data yesterday. How much have you reviewed? Is the accuracy up to standard? Have the deviations been corrected? When will the report be ready?"
Four consecutive questions.
Hector said, "Sorry to bother you, I'll get back to work."
He returned to his lab bench with a bitter face, looking at the pile of unprocessed data on his computer.
At times like this, Hector really missed Camilla.
If Camilla were still here, she could write a program in no time, and the data would magically transform from chaotic to orderly.
He thought, 'If only Camilla can stay in our lab permanently..'
At six in the evening, Sebastian arrived at Camilla's house with a bottle of red wine.
Hearing the noise, Alistair ran out of the kitchen with a spatula, smiling, "Sebastian, here you are."
"Hello, thank you for having me."
"Come in!"
Bella wanted to get him some slippers, but Sebastian stopped her, "No need, I can do it myself."
Then Bella watched as he skillfully took a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet and put them on.
He handed over the bottle of red wine.
Bella smiled, "You didn't have to bring anything."
"It's the least I could do."
Bella accepted it with a smile, glanced at the origin and year, and raised an eyebrow slightly.
Then she looked at the slippers on Sebastian's feet, her gaze deepening.
