Chapter 23 You're Just One of Many

"Hmm?" Leopold raised an eyebrow.

"Do you gonna let me register my fingerprint or what?" Amara pointed at the door lock, looking all pitiful. "I've waited for you out here so many times. Look at all these bites on my hands and legs. Can you really stand to see me get chewed up again?"

Leopold: "No, I can't stand it."

"Yay!" Amara jumped up, grinning. "Honestly, I did it on purpose. Just wanted to get my fingerprint in so I can come see you whenever."

Leopold chuckled, "Why you still acting like a kid?"

He went ahead and registered her fingerprint.

Thinking about the pumpkin porridge she brought and the red bumps on her hands and legs, he reached into his pocket. "Here's my card, with a monthly limit of a hundred grand. Get yourself something nice."

Amara bit her lip nervously, "No, no, no, I can't take your money."

"A girl spending a guy's money is totally normal."

"Is that so."

"Take it. No big deal."

"Alright then," Amara smiled, her eyes sparkling. "I'll bring you more pumpkin porridge tomorrow!"

Leopold waved his hand, "No need."

He thought, 'It's not the taste I want; no matter how many times you make it.'

After hitting the books all day, Camilla parted ways with Lucas outside the library.

Lucas, being the exam prep pro, even helped her highlight some key points.

Camilla wanted to treat him to a meal, but Lucas got a call from his roommate and made plans to study more the next day before heading out.

June was already heating up.

Feeling the heat wave, Camilla got home and felt alive again after some sweet, sweet air conditioning.

She opened the fridge, planning to whip up a tasty meal.

No way she was gonna treat herself poorly.

Once the meal was ready, she heard a slight noise outside the door. Thinking it might be Sebastian coming back, Camilla opened the door but saw the cleaning staff instead of her neighbor.

"What's up?"

Camilla shook her head, "Nothing."

The next day, she showed up at the library at the time she and Lucas had agreed on.

She brought breakfast for Lucas.

Lucas didn't charge her for breakfast yesterday, so she brought him some today to even things out.

Lucas scratched his head, looking a bit awkward. "Thanks, you're too kind."

Camilla often sat by the window, where the light was good and there were fewer people, making it perfect for studying.

But she didn't expect to see Amara when she turned.

Today, Amara came alone.

Camilla didn't know if she had deliberately chosen this spot and didn't care to guess. She calmly took out her books and papers and started studying.

Meanwhile, Amara, sitting not far away, was restless, constantly glancing at Camilla.

Camilla seemed completely unaware, sometimes turning pages, her serious profile exuding an indescribable beauty and tranquility.

Even Amara had to admit that Camilla was stunningly beautiful at this moment.

Maybe this was why Leopold couldn't forget her even after they broke up.

Amara's grip on her pen tightened as she remembered that day at the haunted house when Leopold left her without a second thought and ran towards Camilla.

Leopold was genuinely freaked out.

Before, she had no right to interfere, but now that she was Leopold's girlfriend, she couldn't lose.

Lucas had been prepping for his PhD since his first year of grad school and had developed a killer schedule.

Under his influence, Camilla's efficiency shot through the roof.

In just one morning, she knocked out two sets of practice tests.

When Lucas helped her grade them, he was blown away to see her accuracy rate hit 95%.

He'd heard Camilla graduated three years ago. This was seriously impressive!

No wonder Aurora thought so highly of her.

Camilla had no clue what Lucas was thinking. She just greeted him and headed to the restroom.

On the other side, Amara saw this and immediately followed.

"Wait up."

Camilla turned around, totally unfazed, "What's up?"

"Last night, I brought pumpkin porridge to the villa for him. He loved it and finished it all."

Amara smiled slightly, showing off her dimples, "Not only that, Leopold had me stay over."

"It was the first time I realized he's such a rough and sexy man. I barely slept all night."

Amara spoke ambiguously on purpose, lowering her head shyly, her eyelashes fluttering, looking like she'd been thoroughly satisfied.

Camilla felt a sharp pain in her chest, her breathing getting tough.

"Jealous?" Amara leaned close to her ear, "Regret it? Too bad, you missed your chance."

Suddenly, Camilla smiled, looking at Amara, enunciating each word, "How do you know he only did those things with you?"

Amara's face went pale as she heard Camilla continue expressionlessly, "Maybe you're just one of many? And definitely not the last."

With that, Camilla walked away, not caring about Amara's reaction.

After finishing the last question, Lucas noticed the seat next to him had been empty for a while.

He picked up his phone, intending to send a message, but saw Camilla returning.

He turned his head and saw Camilla's pale face, looking concerned, "You okay? Feeling unwell?"

Camilla pinched her palm hard and shook her head, "I'm fine, maybe it's just too hot, feeling a bit stuffy. Let's keep going."

Lucas said, "Alright."

At five in the afternoon, the day's study session wrapped up.

Lucas remembered the dinner he missed yesterday due to an unexpected event, "My roommate told me there's a new restaurant nearby with good food. Wanna go? My treat."

Camilla stood quietly. Others couldn't tell, but she knew her mind had been wandering all afternoon.

Hearing Lucas's invite, she could only apologize and shake her head, "Sorry, I'm not feeling well today. Maybe next time."

Lucas didn't mind, "Alright, I'll treat you another time."

Back home, Camilla felt completely drained, collapsing on the couch.

In the fish tank, the little goldfish she'd been raising for a while had grown a bit and was blowing bubbles.

Watching the little goldfish swim around, Camilla gradually felt sleepy.

When she woke up again, it was already dark. She grabbed her phone and saw it was eight in the evening.

No wonder she woke up hungry.

Camilla put on her slippers, planning to make something to eat in the kitchen. Halfway there, she remembered she'd been so busy lately that she forgot to buy groceries in the afternoon as planned, and the fridge was empty.

The supermarket was still open at this hour, so Camilla grabbed her keys and went out. There weren't many veggies left, but there were plenty of fish and shrimp in the fresh produce section.

She ended up buying a sea bass and suddenly craved grilled fish fillets, so she headed to the seasoning aisle.

Just as she found the seasoning she wanted, she reached out but accidentally touched a warm hand.
