Chapter 75 Isn't That Better than Camilla?
Jared's wife, Heather White, who used to work at the power company, was the one talking.
She usually didn't have much stress, so she was pretty chill and a bit on the plump side.
Today, she was rocking a bright green sweater, her short hair all permed up into big curls, looking like a jolly Christmas tree.
"Watch your mouth, will ya?" Jared tugged at her.
Unlike Heather's "broad" and "plump" figure, Jared was tall and skinny, wearing a beige pullover sweater with dress pants, his hair slicked back and shiny.
Even in his middle age, his face showed no signs of aging, and he could even be called dashing.
The Learmond family had good genes; all three of Alistair's brothers were handsome.
Heather, pulled by Jared, pouted, "I'm not making stuff up. Camilla really hasn't come back for several years. As her aunt, I don't mind, but Alistair and Bella do miss her."
With that, she warmly approached Camilla, holding her hand, "You look more and more beautiful. Going to the big city really makes a difference! Your vibe is just different from us small-town folks."
Today, Camilla was wearing a white long down coat, which she took off after coming in, showing a beige sweater underneath, paired with a light brown wool skirt and brown long boots.
Her hair was down, with a bow headband holding back her bangs.
She looked clean and sweet.
No wonder Heather said she had a good vibe.
Patricia Learmond, hearing this, pouted, "Mom, you talk too much. Can you be quiet?"
Heather glared at her, "All you do is play on your phone, and you think I talk too much. Learn from Camilla. Just in terms of dressing, you have a lot to learn!"
Today, Patricia was wearing a short, tight top paired with a short skirt and snow boots, with heavy eyeliner.
But Patricia's figure took after Heather, with a thick waist and legs, making this outfit "highlight the flaws."
Patricia didn't seem to realize this, rolling her eyes dramatically at Heather's words.
"Where's Maurice?" Alistair looked around but didn't see Maurice.
Donna replied, "He's in the study taking a call. It's from a client, so he has to take it and can't join us."
Zoey, who had been sitting on the sofa silently, immediately spoke up, "Maurice is such a big boss, it's normal for him to be busy. Let's wait for him to finish before we eat."
"Exactly," Ryan nodded in agreement, "Waiting won't kill us."
Donna looked troubled, "How can that be?"
"Why not?" Zoey's tone was firm, "I said wait, so we wait. Who has an opinion?!"
"Alright then, it's better to have everyone here. Bella, come sit." Donna called Bella over.
"Don't worry about me," Bella said, then sat down away from Ryan and Zoey.
Bella was rescued from the river by Alistair. She had lost all her memories, didn't know where she was from, why she fell into the river, or if her parents were still alive or if she had any siblings.
In short, she had no family.
Alistair was the only one among the three Learmond brothers to get into college, and not just any college, but Cascade College, a top-tier school on par with Harmony College, bringing great honor to the Learmond family.
Ryan and Zoey were once proud of Alistair and wanted to introduce him to the daughters of influential people.
But Alistair fell for Bella, who had no background and nothing to her name, and he was very determined about it.
Ryan and Zoey thought Bella had Alistair wrapped around her finger. Even now, they still held a grudge.
Among the three daughters-in-law, Donna was the go-getter, Heather was the charmer, but Bella was always the odd one out.
Over time, even Alistair fell out of favor.
Alistair couldn't compete with Maurice, who was the breadwinner and the boss.
Camilla plopped down next to Bella.
Since Ryan and Zoey didn't like her, she didn't bother trying to win them over.
She just wanted to get through the meal and bounce.
"Camilla, your bag is pretty sweet. Is it a designer brand?" Donna suddenly asked after setting down the fruit platter.
Instantly, all eyes were on Camilla.
Before Camilla could answer, Heather butted in, "Oh, that logo is called Lv, right?"
Patricia chimed in, "That's Hermès."
"Ah? The fancy bags from TV dramas!" Heather gasped.
She didn't know much about luxury bags, but she had plenty of time to watch dramas at work. Recently, a popular show had the female lead and rich ladies all carrying Hermès bags!
They were super pricey!
Camilla's Hermès bags were all left at Leopold's villa. This bag was one she bought herself.
She brought it today to match her outfit, and it didn't have a logo, so she didn't expect them to recognize it.
Donna was a bit surprised, "Is it really that expensive?"
Even though Maurice was a boss and they had a company, Donna had struggled with Maurice, so she didn't care much about dressing up.
She didn't carry designer bags either.
At her words, Zoey couldn't help but glance at Camilla.
Ryan also looked over.
Camilla looked surprised, "How could it be? I saw a leather goods store having a sale by the roadside and bought it on a whim for just a few dozen bucks."
"Is that so," Heather pouted, "So it's a fake."
Camilla nodded. "I didn't think much at the time, just thought it looked nice."
At her words, Patricia lifted her eyelids and glanced at her.
"Come on, everyone, have some fruit," Donna said, cutting off the bag talk.
Heather said, "Donna, these cherries you bought are so sweet and big. They must be top-grade, right?"
Donna replied, "I don't know about grades. I just picked the most expensive ones. Tobias and Maurice love them, so I bought the best."
Tobias was Maurice and Donna's only son.
"Hey? Where's Tobias? Is he back?"
Donna said, "No, he's in Imperial City. He said the company is just starting, and there are a lot of things to sort out, so he won't be back."
Heather was surprised, "Tobias started his own company? He's really got it together."
There was a hint of jealousy in her tone. Donna smiled, "He's just messing around, like a kid playing."
"I don't think so. He's so busy he can't even come home for the holidays. Tobias is really going places. No wonder Mom and Dad value him."
Ryan and Zoey's favoritism towards Maurice's family wasn't new, and Tobias was the only grandson in the Learmond family.
It made Heather feel both envious and jealous.
But then she thought, 'Alistair only has one daughter, and I felt balanced again.
'A few years ago, Camilla had good grades, and Patricia was always at the bottom, which made me unhappy.
'But after Camilla graduated from college, she didn't continue her studies or find a job.
'At least Patricia could use family connections to get a job at the power company and find a good man to marry in the future.
'Isn't that better than Camilla?'
