Chapter 40 Even If You Begged Me, I Wouldn't Come Again
Leopold was floored, "You..."
Camilla flashed back to that day at the villa, her eyes wide with fear. "Don't move! Stay the hell away from me!"
"Camilla." Leopold's heart felt like it was breaking, "That day, I..."
"No! Just leave, there's nothing left to say."
"Camilla." Leopold's eyes were red and he stood there like a statue, "I'm sorry, okay? I messed up. Can we stop this? I shouldn't have said or done those things."
"I... I just missed you so much, I lost it. I came here to ask you to come back with me."
"Go back?" Camilla's eyes were icy, "Go back for what, to be your side chick?"
Leopold replied, "If you come back, I'll dump Amara right away."
Camilla shook her head. "No way."
"Camilla." Just as Leopold tried to step closer, Camilla bolted back to her bedroom and slammed the door.
After a while, when it finally got quiet outside, she peeked out.
She found Leopold passed out, leaning against the wall.
Camilla rolled her eyes.
Morning came, and the sun peeked through the window.
The guy curled up on the sofa stirred, and as Leopold opened his eyes, a wave of dizziness hit him, making him squint.
Once the dizziness faded, he sat up, rubbed his nose, and looked around.
The place was unfamiliar, cramped, but clean and tidy. Still, it felt small and suffocating to him.
Camilla came out of the bedroom.
Leopold looked up and met her cold, clear eyes.
"Camilla?"
Camilla sat down on a chair, her face blank. "Do you remember what you did last night?"
Leopold frowned, then shook his head.
As expected, when he was sober, he would never say something like "Camilla, come back."
Camilla's lips twisted into a cold smile. "Last night at eleven, you kept banging on the door, waking everyone up. So, don't pull that crap again. We're adults, let's act like it."
Leopold's head still throbbed, and hearing this felt like a punch to the gut.
His eyes scanned the room critically, then he sneered, "This tiny, old place, you think I wanna be here? Even if you begged me, I wouldn't come again!"
With that, Leopold grabbed his coat and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
At the alley entrance, he pulled out his phone and dialed Oliver, "What are you doing? Come out and drink with me!"
"Leopold, did you just leave a party? You still smell like booze."
Oliver showed up and found Leopold alone at the bar, downing drinks, still in yesterday's clothes.
Oliver sat down next to him, smirking.
Leopold was irritated. "I called you to drink, not to talk."
Oliver raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, I'll shut up and drink."
During the day, the bar staff were off duty, so it was just the two of them drinking. Oliver scratched his head, feeling awkward.
Leopold asked, "Where's everyone else?"
"Simon got called back by his dad, and Marcus has been swamped lately. No idea what he's up to, haven't seen him in days."
Leopold was just making small talk, not really interested.
He picked up his drink and chugged it.
Oliver could tell he was in a bad mood, so he stuck around.
They drank from day to night, and Oliver called a cab to take the wasted Leopold back to the villa.
After finally getting Leopold settled, who was passed out and still mumbling "Camilla," "Camilla," Oliver couldn't help but shake his head.
He thought, 'Man, if you can't let her go, why make it so hard? Now it's too late to fix things!'
Yesterday, after Leopold showed up, the place was a wreck.
After he left, Camilla did a deep clean, inside and out. By the time she was done, it was late, so she stayed home to do practice tests and finish her review for the day.
She had a simple dinner.
By the time she finished cleaning the kitchen and sat down, it was already eight in the evening.
She planned to do more practice before bed. Just as she set the alarm, her phone buzzed.
She picked it up and saw a friend request, noting: [Marcus]
Camilla blinked in confusion. Why was Marcus adding her?
Even though he was Leopold's good friend, she wasn't close to Marcus.
They had eaten together countless times but had barely talked.
After a moment of hesitation, Camilla worried he might have something important, so she accepted the request.
However, half an hour passed with no response.
It seemed Marcus had sent the request by mistake.
Camilla found it odd but didn't dwell on it. She put her phone aside and continued with her practice.
At the bar, Marcus put away his phone and looked up at Oliver, who had just returned after dropping Leopold off, his eyes darkening, "Did you get him home?"
Oliver nodded, taking a swig of his drink, "Yeah, luckily I left quickly, or it would've been trouble if I ran into Ms. Smith."
Elodie had been visiting the villa frequently lately. If caught, there would be endless questions.
Oliver asked, "By the way, I called you a few times before, and you said you were busy. How come you're free today?"
Marcus looked at the brandy in his glass and smiled faintly, "Finished my business."
"Oh, wait!" Oliver quickly put down his glass.
"What is it?"
"Didn't Camilla just finish her grad school exams?"
Marcus replied, "The day before yesterday."
"Huh?"
"It ended the day before yesterday."
Oliver chuckled. "You remember pretty clearly."
Marcus smirked. "What don't I remember clearly?"
"Well, no wonder you're in finance, attention to detail is top-notch."
Marcus said, "Thanks for the compliment."
"You really aren't modest. By the way, it's been almost six months, and Leopold and Camilla still haven't made up. It's unbelievable!"
"Yeah."
"Aren't you surprised?"
"Surprised about what?" Marcus's tone suddenly turned indifferent, "It was bound to happen."
"True, those two are bound to get back together eventually." Oliver interpreted his words in his own way.
Marcus was speechless.
Then he asked, "By the way, are you and Camilla close?"
Oliver instinctively puffed out his chest, "Of course! I've had Camilla's porridge. We're more than close, we're super tight!"
Marcus's eyes darkened, "Then you should do something to celebrate her finishing her exams."
"Celebrate? How?" Oliver paused.
"Why not invite her to dinner? Maybe you can help patch things up between her and Leopold."
Thinking of Leopold drinking alone, Oliver's eyes lit up, "Yeah! Camilla might not agree if Leopold invited her, but she will if I do. I'll organize it, use the excuse of celebrating her exams, and then create an opportunity for them."
"You've got the right idea." Marcus nodded, bringing his drink to his lips to hide his smirk.
