Chapter 123 Stop Pretending in front of me

Leopold gave her a once-over and sneered, "Weren't you supposed to have a stomachache? You look fine to me."

Under his sharp gaze, Amara always felt like her clumsy tricks were laid bare.

"You weren't home, and I had no one to talk to. I was so lonely."

Leopold cut her off, "If you're lonely, read a book or do some homework. Aren't you a student? Don't you have classes? Shouldn't you be prepping for grad school?"

"If you're so free, I see Mira is quite busy. Why don't you go help her?"

Amara stammered, unable to come up with a response.

Leopold's eyes were cold. He had seen through her little tricks countless times—low-level and clumsy!

He turned to leave, but a soft body lunged at him from behind, arms tightly wrapping around his waist.

Leopold could feel her chest lightly brushing against his back. "Leopold, don't go. I haven't seen you in so long. I really miss you. Stay with me, please? Even if you hate me, at least for the sake of the child..."

Leopold's jaw tightened, and he almost instantly pried her hands away, disgust nearly spilling from his eyes. "Stay away from me! And don't use the child as an excuse. I told you to get an abortion, but you contacted my mom. We haven't even settled that score yet!"

Amara's eyes flickered, "I'm sorry."

"I warn you, behave yourself, or I'll kick you out of this house right now!"

With that, he turned and went upstairs.

Leopold's back was so heartless it sent chills down one's spine.

Amara bit her lip, took a deep breath, and adjusted her emotions.

She silently told herself to endure!

Marrying Leopold was her only way out, and she had already invested too much in this path.

She couldn't lose.

She couldn't afford to.

Three seconds later, she successfully calmed herself down.

She remembered Leopold's favorite pumpkin porridge. As soon as he walked in, she smelled the alcohol on him, indicating he had drunk a lot last night.

At times like this, Leopold especially craved pumpkin porridge, and she could cater to his taste.

Leopold drank the hangover soup Mira brought him, but he still felt uncomfortable all over. Before long, he fell into a deep sleep again.

When he woke up, it was already 2 PM.

Having not eaten anything all morning, his stomach twisted in pain. He got up and went downstairs.

The discomfort made Leopold irritable all over. "Mira, is there any food?"

Hearing no response, he impatiently called again, "Mira!"

"Leopold, you drank last night and didn't eat anything this morning. Your stomach must be uncomfortable. I specifically went to the store to buy some pumpkin and just made the porridge. Have some."

As soon as Amara heard Leopold coming downstairs, she eagerly brought out the porridge from the kitchen.

But before she could finish speaking, Leopold knocked the porridge over.

Amara gasped.

The scalding porridge spilled onto the expensive carpet, with a few drops splashing onto her.

"Who told you to do that? Did I say I wanted to eat your porridge?" Leopold's cold eyes were full of mockery and ridicule.

Amara felt a bit aggrieved, her eyes welling up with tears, but she didn't dare to retort. She could only whisper, "I'm sorry, I was just worried about you. You drank, and your stomach is always uncomfortable. I didn't want you to suffer, so I made the porridge."

Amara lowered her head, revealing a bit of her neck, looking pitiful.

Anyone would feel soft-hearted seeing this.

But not Leopold.

"Stop pretending! Your acting is really not good enough to fool me. If you want to act pitiful, do it more convincingly. Even my dog knows to please its owner to get dog food. I keep you, and you don't listen, yet you still want to play me? Do I look that stupid?!"

"No, I just love you too much!"

Leopold's eyes were full of hostility. Just hearing Amara's voice made him feel a surge of disgust from the bottom of his heart.

He kicked the overturned bowl, the sound of porcelain shattering on the floor echoing, and Amara trembled in fear.

"I said, stop pretending in front of me. I'll give you three seconds to get back to your room and stay out of my sight!"

He pointed upstairs, his eyes filled with rage.

Amara didn't dare to stay any longer and trembled as she went upstairs.

After that meal, Camilla noticed her relationship with everyone seemed to have improved a bit.

The main reason? Her cooking.

So, Camilla started making a little extra for lunch every day.

And Betty and the others reciprocated by occasionally helping her with some experimental methods.

The most noticeable change was in Hector.

Ever since Camilla read and learned his quick calculation techniques, Hector's attitude towards her had changed.

He often pulled her aside to discuss quick calculation problems, and Camilla was eager to learn new knowledge. Most importantly, she absorbed it quickly and could soon turn what Hector taught into her own.

This made Hector even more enthusiastic.

He practically treated Camilla as a student to be nurtured.

Whenever they had free time, they would sit down to discuss, always having scratch paper and pens at hand.

"Hector, have you taken on a student? It's been a while since I've seen you so invested in something."

"Hector, you can't play favorites. I'm also your student. I demand the same treatment as Camilla!" Darren jokingly raised his hand.

Hector said, "Get lost, go write your lab report, and stop talking."

Everyone laughed together, even Camilla smiled slightly.

She didn't even hear Sebastian calling her.

"Camilla? Camilla!"

"Huh? Sebastian, did you call me?"

"Yes, come over here for a moment."

"Oh, okay."

The next day, the cheerfulness had vanished from Hector's face.

Betty asked Hector, "Hector, why the long face? Did Sebastian scold you?"

Hector looked distressed and patted the stack of documents beside him. "He said I was too idle and just gave me a new project to prepare for. I'll probably be busier from now on. I won't even have time to discuss quick calculation problems with Camilla."

Camilla was quick-witted and clear-headed. He felt sorry he couldn't be her teacher anymore.

But now with a new project in hand, he had to prioritize the lab work.

Betty sympathetically patted his shoulder. "I've heard about this project. No one else can do it but you. Good luck!"

Hector sighed helplessly.

In the blink of an eye, it was Saturday again, and finally, a day to rest.

Camilla had just gotten home and sat down for barely two minutes when she received a call from Juniper.

"Camilla, my cousin is getting married. My mom wants me to go with her to pick out a gift, but I recently took on a new project and have no time. You have good taste; can you go shopping with my mom?"

"When?"

"Tomorrow."

Camilla said, "I don't mind, but what about your mom? Is she okay with it?"

Juniper replied, "She'd love for you to go with her! She says my taste doesn't match hers, but yours does. She even wants to have you as her daughter. Of course she's okay with it."

"Alright." Camilla agreed with a smile.

Sebastian had been busy all night again and got home when it was already daylight.

It was a new season recently, and he suspected he had caught a cold. His head was groggy, and he couldn't hold on any longer, so he came back to rest.

Sebastian took out his key to unlock the door when suddenly, the door across the hall opened at the same time.
