Chapter 149 Really No Other Motives?
"Leopold, let me help you with your tie."
"I'm wearing a black shirt today."
Amara paused, looking puzzled. "I know."
Leopold sighed, thinking, 'A black shirt with a multicolored tie... Only you would think that's a good idea.'
He brushed Amara's hand away. "If you can't do it right, don't bother."
Ignoring her hurt expression, he walked off briskly.
Later that night, Leopold finished work and left the office.
He got into his car, lit a cigarette, and just sat there for a while.
When the cigarette burned out, he crushed it and finally drove off.
Not wanting to go back to the villa, he cruised around the riverside.
Halfway through, Elodie called, but he ignored it.
Driving aimlessly, he ended up in a familiar alley.
Once again, he got scolded for parking carelessly.
"Hey! Just because you drive a Maserati doesn't mean you're special!"
"Yeah, there's been a lot of fancy cars around here lately. Remember that Porsche?"
"Yeah, what's up with that?"
At eight, Camilla came downstairs to take out the trash, right on time.
Leopold watched her through the windshield, almost hungrily.
Today, Camilla was in a blue floral dress, her hair longer and flowing, and she wore flip-flops, looking casual and relaxed.
Leopold got out of the car, ready to follow her, but someone blocked his way.
Sebastian said, "Mr. Wipere, we meet again."
"Move!" Leopold snapped, seeing Camilla about to head back upstairs.
Sebastian didn't budge, just watched Camilla go inside before turning back to Leopold.
"Don't think that just because you're from the Russell family, I won't do anything to you!"
Sebastian stayed calm, his voice steady. "Do you enjoy stalking and peeping?"
"So what if I do?! None of your business!"
"Reporting illegal activities is every citizen's duty."
Leopold chuckled, staring directly at Sebastian. "Are you doing this out of civic duty, or do you have other motives?"
"Whether I do or don't, what difference does it make?" Sebastian's expression didn't change, and his answer was straightforward.
"What right do you have? Who do you think you are? How long have you known her? How long have I known her?"
"The length of time means nothing. Some people know each other their whole lives and never end up together, while for others, it only takes one glance to know they are meant for each other. And you!" Sebastian paused, "Maybe you were together once, but in the end, you're strangers."
Those words hit Leopold right in the heart. They hurt him deeply.
"You think by stopping me, she'll be yours? Dream on!"
Sebastian spoke calmly, "There's no direct correlation. I'm stopping you to prevent her from being harassed, that's all. As for who Camilla belongs to. In my eyes, she doesn't belong to anyone; she belongs to herself."
With that, Sebastian turned and left.
But before he walked away, he casually threw out, "No wonder she broke up with you."
Leopold hit a wall, and with a few old men already coming to the alley with sticks to smash his car, he had no choice but to drive away.
"Oliver, you got a minute?"
On the other end, Oliver moved to a quieter spot. "What's up?"
"At the bar?"
"Yeah, Simon's here too."
Leopold said, "Where at?"
"The usual spot."
"I'll be there in 15."
The bar was buzzing with music.
Once the private room door closed, it felt like a different world.
"Leopold." Simon, holding a voluptuous, scantily clad woman, greeted him with a grin as he walked in.
Leopold went straight to the sofa and sat down.
Simon signaled to the woman beside him, and she immediately smiled seductively and moved closer to Leopold.
"Don't touch me." Leopold grabbed her wandering hand and moved it off his thigh.
The woman's smile froze, and she looked to Simon for help.
"What's wrong? Not satisfied?" Simon raised an eyebrow. "We can switch."
Leopold poured himself a glass of red wine. "Not interested."
"You didn't used to be like this. After breaking up with Camilla, shouldn't you be letting loose? Or is Amara keep too close of an eye on you? Doesn't make sense."
Camilla couldn't control him before, so how could Amara?
Leopold downed his drink without responding.
Simon called the woman back to his side.
She obediently nestled into his arms with a smile.
Simon, holding the beauty, glanced at Leopold with a smile. "Out for fun, why the long face? Who pissed you off?"
"No one."
"Then give us a smile?"
Leopold snapped, "Get lost! You think I'm here to entertain you? You're lucky I'm even here."
Simon laughed loudly, squinting as he leaned in. "When's your kid's due date?"
Leopold's eyes turned cold. "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"
Simon immediately mimed zipping his lips.
Oliver rolled his eyes. "Can you tone down that gloating, troublemaking look?"
"Oh?" Simon blinked. "Is it that obvious?"
Oliver replied, "What do you think?"
"Alright."
"Leopold, don't mind him. He just likes to talk nonsense." With that, Oliver picked up the bottle to pour more wine.
But the next second, Leopold suddenly reached out and covered his glass.
"Leopold?" Oliver was puzzled.
Simon also looked up.
Leopold said, "No need. One glass is enough."
It took Oliver a moment to process that, then he put down the bottle and said, "Leopold, this isn't like you."
"Was I a heavy drinker before?"
"Of course! No question!"
Leopold remembered the worried look in Camilla's eyes every time he came home drunk, and the nagging he used to find so annoying.
Now, no matter how much he drank or how drunk he got, no one would look at him with that mix of anger, frustration, and concern.
"Leopold, why are your eyes red?"
Leopold replied, "This wine burns my throat."
Oliver was puzzled and thought, 'Burns? It tastes just right to me!'
Simon rolled his eyes but said nothing, turning to pinch the woman's butt.
"Simon~" The woman giggled. "Come on, let me drink with you."
Simon laughed at her sweet voice and leaned in for a kiss. "Alright, but you have to feed me. With these."
He pointed to her lips.
This caused a burst of giggles.
Leopold found it increasingly irritating.
Oliver was also exasperated by Simon's constant need to act out.
Just then, Oliver's phone rang. "Hello, Camilla!"
