Chapter 267 Come to My Lab
Calliope crossed her arms and looked down. "What report?"
"Don't play dumb! The fire inspection found no issues with other labs, but Camilla's got a correction notice. Are you saying it has nothing to do with you?"
Calliope smirked. "I barely have time to write papers. Why would I bother with a few kids? As for others, I wouldn't know."
After all, she had so many students, it was normal for one or two to dislike Camilla and her group.
"You're getting bolder, making decisions without consulting me. Do you even respect me anymore?!"
Calliope frowned. "You called me here for this? Stand up for Aurora's students? That's not like you."
Otis sneered. "You think your little tricks are clever? They're stupid as hell! This fire inspection was conducted by the school in conjunction with the district fire department. Normally, I don't care how you ostracize them; it's our college's business and won't spread outside."
He continued, "But this time, it involved the district fire department! Your report dragged the whole college into it! Especially since fire equipment is usually provided by the lab. Before issuing it to students, the college is obligated to inspect and confirm it's correct. Now that it was checked, it only highlights the college's negligence. What if other college leaders find out?"
Calliope's expression darkened.
Otis snapped, "This time, I cleaned up your mess. Don't cause trouble for me again!"
Calliope's arrogance vanished, and she hesitated. "So what now? Call the district fire department and ask for leniency?"
"Do you think you run the fire department? Do you just do whatever you feel like?"
"So we just ignore it?"
"The fire department has already issued a correction notice, so let them fix it."
Now that the issue had already surfaced, the mistake had to run its course. As for Marcus and Sebastian, the notice had been issued by the district fire department and the report had been made by Calliope, so he couldn't be blamed.
Otis and Calliope laughed maliciously. Fire corrections would take at least three to five months; by then, it would be too late for anything.
Back at the lab, Royce said, "Okay, I understand. Thank you."
Ending the call, he looked gravely at Camilla.
Hestia asked immediately, "What did they say?"
"We guessed right. The district fire department hinted that someone reported us. If it's a regular correction, it can be resolved in twenty days at the fastest. But if it's a correction notice issued after a report, the process will take at least four months. During the correction period, the lab cannot be used and must wait for fire inspection approval before we can use it again."
"Four months!" Hestia's eyes widened. "By then, it'll be winter break. What's the point of getting it back then!"
Not to mention four months, they couldn't afford to lose a single day in their current progress.
Royce thought for a moment before saying, "Can we apply for another lab? We can move all the equipment there. It's a hassle, but better than waiting."
Camilla shook her head; she had already thought of this. "Half an hour ago, the academic office replied that each research group can only apply for one lab."
"Then what do we do?" Hestia was almost in tears. "We can't just build a lab ourselves, can we?"
"Someone wants to build a lab? Who's daydreaming in broad daylight?" Bronte walked in with a smug expression, her tone mocking.
Noe followed, grinning. "Who else? Some fatso just talking out of his hat."
Hestia was really angry, but before she could roll up her sleeves and start cursing, Royce spoke first. "Who let you in? Our lab doesn't welcome you. Get out before we have to use force."
Who the hell are you cursing at?!" Noe shouted, his face flushed with rage.
Royce said nonchalantly, "You know damn well who I'm talking about."
"You!" Noe angrily clenched his fists.
Bronte sneered. "The whole college has no issues, but your lab needs corrections. It's embarrassing, and you're still so stubborn! I heard these fire corrections can take months. It's a pity you won't have a lab for a long time. So what if you've been published in 'Science'? The college doesn't care about you. What's there to be arrogant about?"
Camilla laughed. "I hesitated to speak up, fearing you might not take it well. But then I realized that sparing your feelings was only hurting myself, so I instantly felt relieved. Yes, I've been published in 'Science'. Haven't you been published too? You must be very jealous, right? Unfortunately, academic prowess isn't something you can achieve through jealousy. No matter how sharp your tongue is, it won't help. Don't you agree?"
Bronte was boiling with rage.
Camilla looked her up and down. "I've always been curious. With you lazing around and jumping into every commotion, where do you find the time to do experiments and write papers? Anyone with academic output spends day and night in the lab."
At this point, Camilla paused, catching the brief flickers of emotion in Bronte's eyes. "Did you really write those papers yourself?"
"What nonsense! Who do you think you are! You only see me when I'm idle, why not mention when I'm rushing in the lab."
Camilla smirked. "Rushing in the lab or playing on your phone?"
"I've done so many experiments and written so many reports."
Camilla retorted, "What value does the POT parameter show on the C-xp coordinate display? What's the domain and the approximate range of the interval parameters?"
Bronte was silent. She heard every word, but couldn't make sense of them as a whole.
Camilla sneered. "You don't even know such basic operations, and you say you've done many experiments and written many reports?"
Bronte felt a surge of anxiety under Camilla's piercing gaze, as if all her secrets were laid bare. "I'm not wasting words with you! Anyway, you have a week to move out. After the corrections, this lab might not be yours anymore!"
With that, she turned and left, her back showing a hint of panic.
Noe was puzzled. Weren't they supposed to teach them a lesson? Just leaving like that?
"I'll let it pass today, but just wait!" Noe snorted and hurried after Bronte.
They got rid of two annoying pests, but the three of them didn't feel any relief.
Hestia asked, "From what Bronte said, even if the lab passes the corrections, they have other plans to take it over. If that's the case, it's better not to correct it! If we can't have it, no one else can either."
Royce said, "The urgent issue is to resolve the lack of available lab space. Maybe we can borrow from other research groups or rent one?"
Hestia shook her head. "Sounds good, but it's too hard to execute. Who would lend us their lab? Especially since other research groups don't need the money."
"If you don't mind, you can use my lab." Suddenly, a magnetic voice sounded.
The three of them looked towards the door simultaneously.
The next second, Hestia exclaimed, "Professor Russell!"
