Chapter 259 Missed
When passing by this store, Bella suddenly stopped and said she wanted to eat macarons.
Camilla looked around the old store with its outdated decor and lack of promotional posters. She had to walk all the way inside to see the names of the desserts listed on the sign—and there really were macarons!
So, how did Bella know this store sold macarons just by standing at the door? And these macarons were the store's specialty.
Seeing Camilla's confusion, Bella explained, "I figured this place would have macarons, and they should be pretty good."
Alistair said, "Don't you know your mom has a keen nose? She can tell if something is good just by smelling it."
"Really?" Camilla didn't think much of it.
Marcus said, "What a coincidence, I'm here to buy macarons too."
"For yourself?"
Marcus shook his head. "For my grandma."
"Is she here too?" Camilla looked around, "Why don't I see her?"
"She's tired from walking and is resting in the café. I'll introduce your parents to them later. Last time at the bookstore, my grandma wanted to go upstairs to see the book signing, but she couldn't handle it and had to go home first."
"Sure." Camilla smiled along. Then she ordered two portions, handing one to Marcus.
Marcus said, "How much? I'll pay you back."
Camilla refused. "No need, it's my treat for your grandma. Last time you gave me water, and I didn't say I would pay you back, right?"
Marcus laughed.
"Let's go." Camilla looked back at him.
Entering the café, they immediately saw Elijah and Isadora sitting by the window, drinking coffee.
Camilla took the initiative to greet them.
Isadora didn't expect to meet Camilla, and her somewhat tired face instantly filled with a smile.
"Grandma, Camilla even bought you macarons."
Isadora responded, "Didn't you say you were going to line up? Why did you let her buy them?"
Marcus was about to speak, but Camilla explained for him. "I was in front, so I bought them together."
"I see. What a good child! Thank you!"
Isadora touched Camilla's hand, holding it in her palm. Suddenly, she had a thought and asked softly, "You are such a kind girl, you must be very beautiful. Unfortunately, my eyesight isn't good. Can I touch your face?"
Camilla could feel her cautiousness and smiled. "Of course! Go ahead."
Isadora's expression at that moment made it hard for her to refuse.
She took Isadora's hand and brought it to her cheek. Just as she was about to let her touch it, Alistair's voice suddenly came from upstairs. "Camilla!"
He and Bella had gone to the second floor. They were talking when they saw their daughter and Marcus come in and walk straight to an elderly couple.
Since the elderly couple had their backs to them, Alistair and Bella couldn't see their faces.
This shout not only stopped Camilla's movement but also made them instinctively look in the direction of the voice.
Alistair waved at them with a smile, but then he saw Bella already walking downstairs. "Honey, wait for me; why are you walking so fast?"
"I'm going to eat macarons; hurry up."
"Okay!"
Camilla smiled as she explained, "That was my dad just now. You probably didn't see my mom, but they're coming this way. I'll introduce you to them later."
"Sure."
Camilla then asked, "Would you like to try the macarons first? I can get you a piece."
Isadora was about to speak when Marcus's phone rang. Whatever was said on the other end made Marcus's face instantly turn cold. "Okay, I got it. Keep the situation stable; I'll get there as soon as possible!"
After hanging up, he looked apologetically at Camilla. "Sorry, there's an emergency at the company; I have to go."
Then he turned to Elijah and Isadora. "I'll take you home first. Next time, I'll accompany you for a walk."
"Okay. But we haven't met Camilla's parents."
Camilla immediately said, "It's okay, you have things to do. There will be other opportunities to meet."
"Alright."
By the time Bella and Alistair came over, Marcus had already taken Elijah and Isadora out of the café and driven away.
Bella looked outside and asked, "Who were those two elderly people just now?"
"Marcus's grandparents. We met at the book signing event, and we ran into them again today."
Bella didn't doubt it. "What a coincidence. Are you tired from walking? Do you want to go home?"
"Let's play a bit longer. We haven't walked to the end of this street yet." Camilla clung to Bella's arm, acting spoiled.
Bella smiled and said, "Alright, let's keep walking then."
In the car, Marcus was talking to his assistant on the phone. "Do as I said, calm everyone down first, and we'll discuss the rest when I get there."
Elijah said, "Is it urgent? If you're in a hurry, you can drop us off somewhere, and we can take a cab home."
"Not really. My team is already handling it."
"That's good."
Marcus was silent for a moment, then, after some hesitation, he asked, "Grandpa, do you have any plans for this visit? How long are you staying? I know some good doctors who can give Grandma a consultation. Is that okay with you?"
Elijah replied, "You handle it."
Marcus said cautiously, "My mom has always missed you. Knowing that Grandma's eyesight isn't great, she has been reminding me to look out for good doctors. She doesn't know you two are back this time. Would you like to see her? Maybe we could have a family dinner?"
After all, Cordelia was his biological mother. Although he didn't want to upset Isadora, Marcus still wanted to try to mend their relationship if possible.
However, as soon as he spoke, the atmosphere became tense.
Elijah frowned and remained silent.
Isadora said bluntly, "I'm not feeling well and it's inconvenient to see guests. I appreciate her kindness."
In Isadora's eyes, Cordelia was just a guest. Out of consideration for Marcus, Isadora didn't make it too harsh. But her attitude was clear, and Marcus couldn't say much more.
The car was quiet for a moment.
Marcus remembered something his assistant mentioned in the morning and said, "We signed a ten-year contract with the government to open the Langley Estate to tourists for free. The ten-year period is almost up. Do you want to renew it?"
The Langley Estate was the private property of the Langley Family. The agreement to open it for free was not a donation. So, the government only had agency rights.
Elijah's eyes dimmed, and he sighed. "Alright!" She thought, 'If Ella ever comes back, at least she can see a familiar place.'
