Chapter 9 You're Pretty Easygoing
Camilla strutted ahead, with Sebastian lagging just a step behind.
Compared to last night, she was back to her usual self.
Sebastian pulled the car around, and Camilla hopped into the passenger seat.
On the way, they cruised past a fruit market.
Camilla suddenly piped up, "Hey, can you pull over for a sec? Just two minutes? I wanna grab some fruit."
"Fruit?"
"Yeah, for Professor Garcia."
Sebastian, gripping the wheel, looked a bit puzzled, "Is that really necessary?"
Camilla chuckled, finding it amusing, "Do you always show up empty-handed?"
Sebastian nodded, dead serious.
Camilla thought, 'Maybe big shots just roll like that?'
Despite his confusion, Sebastian pulled over anyway.
Aurora lived not far from Harmony College.
A row of quaint little houses, each with its own yard, simple yet full of charm.
Through a grove of maple trees, there it was.
Six years had flown by.
Camilla tightened her grip on the seatbelt, eyeing the fruit basket at her feet, suddenly feeling a bit nervous.
Sebastian sensed it, "Not getting out?"
Camilla bit her lip, "I wanna wait a bit."
Sebastian looked at her, then nodded, "I'll go in first."
Camilla was grateful he didn't pry.
Watching Sebastian leave, Camilla took a couple of deep breaths, then unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
This season, flowers were in full bloom. As soon as she stepped into the yard, the floral scent hit her with the breeze.
The green plants and flowers by the railing were wilting, probably because the owner was sick and no one was tending to them.
Before she even got inside, Camilla heard Aurora's voice, her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly followed Sebastian.
"Professor Garcia."
Aurora put down the latest issue of a biology journal and lifted her reading glasses, "Sebastian? What brings you here?"
Sebastian stepped forward to support her, and they slowly walked inside as he said, "Just came to check on you. Feeling any better?"
"Just a minor thing; no need for all of you to come over."
Aurora patted his hand, "You've all worried too much; I'm perfectly fine!"
Sebastian hesitated for a moment then said, "I brought someone with me today."
"Who?" Aurora looked puzzled.
Following his gaze, Camilla appeared at the entrance, standing there like a kid who got caught doing something wrong.
Aurora was surprised and instinctively took two steps forward, but soon the surprise and hidden joy in her eyes turned into deliberate indifference.
"What are you doing here?" Aurora said with a stern face.
"Professor Garcia." Camilla was a bit at a loss.
Aurora's voice hardened, her face expressionless, "Who was it that said she would pursue love at all costs? Now why are you here?"
Camilla's lips tightened, tears streaming down, "I'm sorry for disappointing you."
"And?" Aurora rarely looked this serious.
Camilla replied, "And I was wrong."
After a pause, Camilla softly added, "Is it too late?"
Aurora sighed, her expression gradually softening, "Do you know how long I've waited for you? Six years!"
Tears welled up in Camilla's eyes, choking, "I didn't know." Had Aurora been waiting for her all this time?
Aurora's face showed a trace of heartache and said, "It's good that you've figured it out." No one knew what Camilla had been through before she came to this realization.
Camilla felt the tears coming and couldn't hold back anymore. She threw herself into Aurora's arms, "Professor."
A dry, soft hand patted her back, and Aurora's heart softened a bit.
"Alright, alright. You're a grown-up. Don't cry; it's embarrassing."
Sebastian quietly watched from the side, and when the two hugged and reconciled, he silently slipped out to the balcony, giving them some privacy.
After reuniting after so many years, Aurora couldn't help but ask about Camilla's current situation, but she never mentioned her love life.
She thought, 'Now that Camilla knows she was wrong, it means the path or the person she chose back then was unreliable. No need to poke at her pain.'
Camilla said, "I rented a place near the school, and I've started reviewing, planning to apply for your graduate program at the end of the year..."
Aurora's eyes lit up, the immense joy seemed to overwhelm her, "Really? Is it true?"
She even confirmed it twice.
"Yeah." Camilla nodded, unable to meet Aurora's eyes.
She had given it up back then, and now she wanted to start over.
"Good! Good! You should have done this long ago! You better not be lying to me, you said you'd apply for my graduate program! This year's spot wasn't saved in vain."
Camilla was a bit stunned.
Although she had guessed that Aurora might have saved a spot for her, it was still hard to believe when it was confirmed.
She thought, 'Oh, Camilla. What have you done to deserve Professor Garcia doing so much for you?'
"Aurora, I might not pass; don't get your hopes up too high."
Aurora replied, "As long as you want it, you can't fail! I know your abilities best. Unless you deliberately fail to mess with me!"
"I wouldn't." Camilla couldn't help but laugh through her tears.
"It's getting late, you and Sebastian... Where's Sebastian?"
"Professor Garcia." Sebastian came in from the balcony.
Aurora said, "It's late; you and Camilla stay for lunch, I'll cook myself!"
Camilla's face changed, and Sebastian's expression was also complicated.
Camilla said, "You don't need to trouble yourself, I'll cook." It wasn't that Camilla didn't appreciate it, but she was afraid the kitchen would be blown up if Aurora cooked.
Aurora coughed awkwardly, clearly aware of her own cooking skills, but she couldn't lose face in front of her students, so she mumbled, "Alright, alright, I'm still recovering, not suitable for cooking."
Camilla quickly tied on an apron and went into the kitchen.
Sebastian also rolled up his sleeves and followed, "I'll help."
Aurora's gaze moved back and forth between the two, her smile widening.
The fridge was full of fresh ingredients.
Aurora had just been discharged and was still recovering, so Camilla planned to make something light.
Sebastian asked, "What do you need me to do?"
Camilla glanced at the vegetable basin, "Can you wash vegetables?"
"Shouldn't be too hard."
Camilla made room for him.
Sebastian's movements were not skilled, but he was careful, washing the dirt off the green leaves thoroughly.
Camilla casually asked, "Any dietary restrictions?"
"None."
"Taste preferences?"
"Anything is fine."
"You're pretty easygoing," she muttered softly.
Unlike Leopold, who was picky and demanding.
