Chapter 279 Explanation

Camilla spoke nonchalantly, as if everything was completely unrelated to her.

Leopold felt helpless, like sand slipping through his fingers. He once uprooted her flowers; now he brought back a garden in full bloom. Yet, she remained indifferent.

"It's okay. If you don't like it, we can go somewhere else."

"No, I like it," Camilla looked him straight in the eye. "These flowers are really beautiful. But if this is just a means to win me back, and these flowers are tools for that purpose, then such beauty is wasted."

Leopold was stunned and murmured, "I just wanted to apologize for the mistakes I made in the past."

"Since it's over, there's no need to dwell on it. You've put so much effort into growing these flowers; I hope you genuinely appreciate them, rather than measuring their worth by my preferences. Your life should be about work and enjoyment, not the chaos of saving an unworthy relationship."

"We have different goals and are destined to part ways. Perhaps we'll meet better people. Letting go of the past and facing the future openly is what we should do, right?"

Leopold lowered his head. He couldn't let go of the past, nor could he meet someone better than her.

"Is there really no chance for us?"

Camilla gently shook her head.

Then they had lunch at the estate. As soon as the dishes were served, Camilla knew they were carefully prepared because they were all her favorites.

It was ironic. They used to eat out often, and Leopold seemed to forget her preferences. Now, more than a year after their breakup, he remembered everything.

"Try this, Camilla, I remember you like it."

Leopold kept serving her food, barely eating himself.

"Thank you, that's enough. Don't worry about me, eat yourself."

"Okay." Leopold smiled.

Despite feeling a bit awkward about the company, Camilla was quite satisfied with the meal. The long table by the window overlooked a large flower field, and the dishes, all her favorites.

"I'm full." Camilla put down her utensils and wiped her mouth.

Leopold smiled, his eyes soft. "Would you like to take a nap here? I've had the rooms cleaned, and the sheets and covers are new."

Camilla raised an eyebrow. "Is that okay?"

"Of course!"

This wasn't like Leopold.

Camilla mentioned, "There are six hours until sunset, and today will be over."

"Although I want to spend every moment with you, I know that in winter, if you don't nap at noon, you'll be very tired in the afternoon."

Camilla was silent for a moment before saying, "Then I want a room to myself."

Leopold smiled, but his eyes were filled with bitterness. "That was the plan. I'm not that shameless."

Camilla said nothing.

He said bitterly, "That time at the villa, when I saw you packing your books to leave, I was so angry. Later, I wondered why I lost my mind and did that. First, you had been gone for days without any word, and I missed you terribly. Second, I wanted to scare you into coming back on your own."

Camilla looked at Leopold with a mix of absurdity and sympathy. Someone who couldn't express love was bound to take many detours before they grew, and fortunately, she was just the beginning of his journey.

Camilla followed the servant to the second floor.

"Ms. Learmond, please come in and rest. Call me if you need anything."

Looking at the familiar setup, including the vase she had casually picked up that was still on the windowsill, Camilla realized this was the room she had stayed in during her junior year summer break.

"Okay, thank you."

The servant left, gently closing the door.

Camilla slept for forty minutes. When she went downstairs, she saw Leopold sitting on the living room sofa, a cup of untouched coffee in front of him, his gaze vacant as if lost in thought.

Hearing the footsteps, he snapped back to reality and stood up nervously the next second. "Camilla, is there something wrong with the room? I'll get the servant right away..."

"No need," Camilla interrupted him. "I've rested well. Do you have any other plans?"

He was stunned for a moment, seemingly not expecting Camilla to cooperate so willingly. He had mentally prepared himself for her to sleep until evening.

Camilla met his surprised gaze and smiled. "I'm not that unreasonable."

Leopold was beaming with joy. "Shall we go then?"

Camilla nodded slightly.

Leopold drove her to their usual spots: the mall, the bar, the club, and her favorite sunset viewing spot on a mountain in the northern suburbs, which required navigating 20 miles of narrow, winding roads.

Whenever Camilla was upset in the past, she liked to come here. Standing on the viewing platform, looking out over the entire city, she would always feel a sense of clarity.

After they broke up, this place became a regular spot for Leopold. He used to come here to pick up a sulking Camilla, never imagining he'd one day be a regular himself.
