Chapter 175 Alistair and Bella Come to Imperial City

Anouk, being such a domineering person, how could she swallow this loss?

That very day, she went to the real estate agency, demanding that the agent, Luke, come out.

The store manager informed her that Luke had resigned three days ago.

Anouk couldn't find Luke, so she could only go to the agency.

She went there every day, causing a scene, and even brought relatives and friends to hold banners outside the store. It was said that the situation escalated quite a bit.

The store manager had no choice but to give her Luke's address.

Anouk followed the lead and actually caught Luke.

But Luke wasn't guilty at all; he was very self-righteous. "Anyway, you've already sold the house to me. The deal is done, and the property deed now has my name on it. Making a fuss won't help."

Anouk sat down at his doorstep, wailing and making a scene, using her most practiced shrewish tactics.

Luke was also a tough character. Seeing Anouk making a scene, he mimicked her, lying down on the ground and also started crying out his grievances.

In the end, they attracted the police because a neighbor couldn't stand the noise and called to report them for disturbing the peace.

Both were taken to the police station.

After mediation, it was confirmed that Anouk had indeed sold the house to Luke. The contract was signed, the money was received, and the property transfer was completed.

The house now belonged to Luke.

Luke said, "Exactly! I saw she was eager to move to a new house, so I bought her old house with my own money. Was that wrong? Who could have known the house would be slated for demolition? I don't have the ability to foresee the future. You just had bad luck. Just stop. Don't think that making a fuss will get the house back."

He continued, "If you really want to make a fuss, fine, I'll join you. I have plenty of time now that I'm unemployed. I'll be supported by the demolition compensation for the rest of my life, so working or not doesn't matter to me. But you're different. You have a husband and a son. Don't you have household chores to do every day?"

Anouk was dumbfounded.

Anouk had been domineering for over a decade. People often let things slide because her husband was a colleague, thinking it was better to avoid trouble.

But outsiders wouldn't indulge her.

Anouk regretted it deeply now. If she had known the house would be demolished, why would she have moved?

If she had waited another month or two, she could have received one or two million dollars in compensation!

The more Anouk thought about it, the more upset she became, her heart bleeding.

It wasn't a hundred dollars; it was a million dollars!

And it was snatched away just like that!

Alistair said, "I heard she was so angry she ended up in the hospital."

Camilla didn't say anything.

"By the way, she called your mom a few days ago."

"Who?"

"Anouk."

"Why did she call my mom?"

"She asked if we were selling our old house. If we were, she wanted to buy it for $400,000, considering we used to be neighbors."

Camilla's mouth twitched. "What is she thinking?"

The demolition policy had already been announced. In a few months, the house would be worth over a million dollars in compensation, and she wanted to buy it for $400,000?

Alistair shrugged. "Maybe she thinks we don't know about the demolition?"

Camilla was speechless. "Ignore her."

"Exactly. Your mom didn't respond and just hung up."

Anouk called a few more times.

Seeing that Bella really wasn't answering, she finally gave up.

Camilla thought of Elmer's invitation and the fact that Bella's contract had expired three days ago. "Dad, are you on summer break?"

"Yes, we started a week ago. Why?"

"Why don't you and Mom come to Imperial City and do some sightseeing with me?"

Alistair was tempted.

First, he missed his daughter. Second, he was a graduate of Cascade College and had lived in Imperial City for a few years, so he had fond memories of the place.

"Aren't you busy writing your thesis? Wouldn't our visit disrupt your work?"

"No, the thesis is done and submitted. I'm free these days."

"But there's a heatwave warning across the country. Is it a good time to travel?"

Bella couldn't stand it anymore. "Don't listen to your dad. He practically has 'I want to go' written on his face."

Alistair cleared his throat. "I never said I didn't want to go."

Camilla laughed. "Alright! I'll book the train tickets now."

After hanging up, she used a ticketing app to book two business-class tickets.

On the other side, Alistair and Bella received the ticket information from Camilla. The tickets were for the next day!

They immediately started packing.

"Camilla is really cutting it close. It's only a few hours' journey, and she booked business class. Isn't that a waste of money?"

Alistair muttered as he packed.

But Bella disagreed. "Camilla wants to see us as soon as possible. A few hours isn't short. Economy class seats are uncomfortable. She cares about us and wants us to travel comfortably. Camilla paid for the best seats for us, and you're complaining? Don't be ungrateful."

Alistair sighed. "Look at you. I say one thing, and you respond with ten. I'm not complaining. I'm just trying to save Camilla some money."

"Save your own money. We should be frugal where it counts, but for long trips, don't just think about saving money. If we're going on a trip, we should be happy and comfortable, right?"

"Yeah, you are right!" Alistair nodded.

While packing, Bella prepared daily necessities and essentials, including a few pretty dresses and changes of clothes.

Alistair thought about the vegetables he had grown, and wanted to bring some for Camilla.

Bella saw him trying to pack freshly dug potatoes and was speechless. "That's enough. If you bring so much, they'll spoil on the way. And the suitcase is so heavy. Can you carry it?" Bella crossed her arms, full of doubt.

"Why can't I? It's not that much." Alistair said, trying to lift the suitcase.

"Maybe I did pack a bit too much? Should I take some out?"

Finally, with a neatly packed suitcase, Bella was satisfied.

The next evening, Camilla picked up her parents at the high-speed rail station.

Bella recounted the packing mishap from the night before, and they both laughed heartily.

Alistair walked behind them with a dark face.

"We're almost at my place." Camilla said.

When Bella first learned that Camilla had rented an apartment near Harmony College, she was worried about safety and the living conditions.

Camilla understood their concerns and didn't hide anything, explaining the pros and cons of the apartment.

"Although there's no elevator and the building is old, it's conveniently located. The subway and shopping district are just outside the alley, and it's close to several universities."

Alistair and Bella listened as they walked, and before they knew it, they had climbed seven flights of stairs.

Camilla took out her keys to open the door.

Suddenly, the door across the hall opened from the inside.

Sebastian had come home to get some clean clothes and was about to return to the lab. He didn't expect to see Camilla with a man and a woman when he opened the door.

He froze.

Alistair and Bella were also taken aback.
