Chapter 270 Charge
Camilla and Hestia looked at Royce in unison.
Royce scratched his head awkwardly. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"What does your family do exactly?" Hestia's gaze became instantly mysterious.
Camilla said, "I remember you mentioned last time that your parents are civil servants?"
It seemed that this "civil servant" was not an ordinary one.
Camilla didn't ask further.
She had heard that children from official families tend to be low-key, so it was understandable that Royce hadn't mentioned it before. Hence, Hestia didn't press the issue.
Royce finally breathed a sigh of relief. "I'll do my best to get it done."
Camilla nodded, "Good."
"For the lab!"
"For not getting kicked out again!"
After Hestia and Royce finished speaking, they both looked at Camilla.
Camilla was stunned for a moment and instinctively responded, "Charge!"
They got to work immediately.
As soon as Hestia left the apartment, she took out her phone and called her dad, Liam Sharp. "Dad, have you eaten?"
"Yes! How about you?"
"Not yet." Hestia's tone instantly became pitiful.
Liam knew something was wrong. If his precious daughter hadn't even eaten, it must be something serious.
"What's going on?"
Hestia immediately recounted the recent events in the lab to Liam. "That's it. Isn't it infuriating?!"
Liam slapped his thigh. "This is outrageous! The academy neglects its duties and protects the wrongdoers. How can this happen in a prestigious institution?"
"Exactly!" Hestia nodded frantically, "I casually mentioned that we might as well build our own lab, and two students from Calliope's team overheard and laughed at me, saying I was daydreaming and even calling me fat!"
"They dared to call you fat! Hestia, you're not fat at all. We won't lower ourselves to their level."
"It's just a lab, right? As long as we have money, you can build as many as you want and show them what real capability is!"
"So, Dad, you agree?!" Hestia screamed in excitement, with no trace of grievance or sobbing.
Liam was a bit confused. "Agree to what?"
"Agree to build us a lab! You just agreed, you can't go back on your word."
Liam suddenly realized. "So all this buildup was for this?"
Hestia laughed. "It won't cost much! Just a little bit will do!"
"How much is a little bit?"
"Just around ten million dollars."
"Ten million dollars! Does it cost that much to build a lab?!"
"Hestia, don't get scammed!" Liam stood up, thinking it was normal for his innocent and sweet daughter to be targeted by scammers.
"Dad, it's not a scam. Camilla is putting in more than I am! She even gave up a piece of land!"
On the other end of the phone, Liam was silent for a long time. "Are you really going to build your own lab?"
"Of course!"
"Not just a spur-of-the-moment idea?"
Hestia said, "Of course not! We're very serious!"
"Alright, ten million dollars, right? I'll transfer it to your account in a bit."
"Thanks, Dad! Love you."
That night, Hestia posted a screenshot of the bank transfer in their group chat with the message: [Done.]
Royce couldn't help but smile, imagining how pleased Hestia must have been when she sent that message.
It seemed he had to work hard too.
Royce put away his phone and walked to the sofa. "Grandpa, it's been a while since we played chess. How about a game?"
"Sure! It's rare for you to come home. I haven't had a proper game with anyone in a long time."
Colt Castillo got up from the sofa with his cane and sat down at the chessboard.
After two games, it was exhilarating!
Royce subtly let Colt win, making him beam with joy.
"Royce, you lost again. You don't seem to be in top form today."
Royce sighed, pretending to be troubled. "Clearly, your skills have improved. Honestly, have you been practicing behind my back?"
Colt laughed heartily.
Royce said, "Let's play another game!"
This time, Royce didn't hold back, and naturally, he won.
Colt snorted, with a hint of childish sulking. "You said I practiced, but I think you did! No more, it's no fun!"
After a pause, Colt continued, "Why did you come home today? And even offered to play chess with me? What's going on?"
Nothing could escape Colt's eyes, and Royce knew this well.
So Royce didn't hold back and told him all about the academic bullying and malicious suppression he faced at school.
"Instead of enduring it, we decided to take matters into our own hands and build our own lab. We have the money and the land, but we still need approval from the relevant departments."
At this point, Royce paused, glancing at Colt, almost writing "Please agree" on his face.
However, Colt remained silent. He just sat there, his gaze dark and deep.
Royce didn't dare to rush him and busied himself with tidying up the chessboard, feeling anxious.
After a long time, Colt suddenly sighed, "I didn't expect the academic circle to become so corrupt. If what you said is true, then I support you."
"As for the approval, you just go ahead and do it. Don't worry about the rest."
"Thank you, Grandpa!"
"Remember, if you're going to do it, do it well. Don't give people a reason to laugh at you!"
"Got it! Don't worry!"
Although Royce faced some challenges, he ultimately resolved them satisfactorily.
That night, he also posted in the group chat, following Hestia: [Done.]
But surprisingly, the one who was supposed to have the smoothest time, Camilla, encountered unexpected difficulties.
