Chapter 124 Each Flutter Touched His Heart
Camilla was just waking up, still in her bear pajamas, with her eyes a bit red.
She let out a slow yawn, moving slower than usual.
"Did I wake you?" The old house had terrible soundproofing, and you could hear footsteps in the hallway even with the door shut. Sebastian figured he must've woken her up.
Camilla rubbed her eyes and shook her head, "I was about to get up anyway, it's already 6:30."
She had plans to go shopping with Cynthia in the afternoon, so she needed to get up early to read some papers and find references.
Seeing she still looked sleepy, Sebastian lowered his voice, "It's still early, you can sleep a bit more."
Before he could finish, he noticed Camilla giving him a scrutinizing look. He was puzzled, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Camilla asked, "Do you have a cold?"
Sebastian gave a wry smile, "You noticed?"
"Your voice sounds a bit hoarse. Do you have a fever?"
Sebastian felt his forehead, "I don't know, can't really tell, probably not."
Camilla sighed, "'Probably not'? Is that something a serious researcher would say?"
Sebastian chuckled, "There's no thermometer at home."
"I have one. You go home first, I'll bring it over."
"Okay."
Camilla went back, found the thermometer in a drawer, sprayed it with alcohol, wiped it dry with a disinfectant wipe, and took it to Sebastian's place.
Sebastian was already lying on the couch.
Usually so meticulous, he even forgot to take off his slippers, showing how uncomfortable he was.
Camilla approached quietly and called softly, "Sebastian? Sebastian?"
No response after two calls, she got worried and moved closer, "Sebastian?"
Suddenly, Sebastian opened his eyes.
Their eyes met.
Sebastian looked at Camilla's small face so close to his, her eyes seemed a bit confused and helpless, her slightly trembling eyelashes like butterflies about to take flight.
Each flutter touched his heart.
Camilla sighed in relief and handed him the thermometer, "Sebastian, take your temperature. You didn't respond just now, you freaked me out."
"Okay."
The temperature read 102.2 degrees Fahrenheit, a high fever.
"You gotta get to the hospital, you can't keep going like this."
Sebastian waved his hand, "Some medicine will do."
"Do you have any medicine at home?"
Sebastian replied, "No."
Camilla sighed, "I have some at home, I'll go get it now. I also have some cold medicine, which works better with fever reducers."
"Thank you."
After making sure he took the medicine, Camilla went to wash the cup. When she came out of the kitchen, she saw that Sebastian had already fallen asleep.
She gently covered him with a blanket and then quietly left.
Leopold's indifference made Amara very discouraged.
It seemed that no matter what she said or did, it was always wrong in Leopold's eyes.
Amara didn't dare to provoke him anymore, but she couldn't just sit and watch as Leopold grew more and more annoyed with her and drifted further away. She couldn't do it.
After thinking it over, she decided to start with Elodie.
She noticed that Leopold respected Elodie a lot. This was evident from the fact that she could stay in the villa, showing her influence over Leopold.
So the next day, after finding out Elodie's whereabouts from Mira, she arrived early at the mall Elodie was going to, successfully staging a chance encounter.
Elodie hadn't gone shopping for a long time. She went out today because a salesperson had called a few days ago, saying they had new bags and clothes in stock and invited her to come and take a look.
She didn't expect to run into Amara.
Since they met, they had to shop together.
Amara was pretty sharp. She took the lead and paid for the bags Elodie liked.
Even though she used Leopold's secondary card, it was a step up from last time when she didn't spend a dime and only gave a scarf.
They walked into a high-end clothing store, and the sharp-eyed sales associate immediately recognized Elodie as someone important.
With a smile, she approached, "Madam, is there anything you need? These are our latest arrivals, elegant and grand, perfectly matching your style."
Elodie was wearing a classic black Gucci coat today, with a string of pearls around her neck, enhancing her refined aura.
"Alright, let me try these two."
Amara had just gritted her teeth and paid for several bags for Elodie. Although she appeared calm on the surface, her heart was bleeding.
She had never been so extravagant.
Even though she had Leopold's secondary card, she only dared to use it for prenatal checkups and maternity items, occasionally buying small things, never daring to splurge like this.
So far, the only two luxury bags she owned were gifts from Leopold and Elodie.
The master bedroom in the villa had a whole wall of Hermès bags, mostly in gold, with both regular and rare leathers, but Leopold wouldn't let her touch them.
Elodie glanced at her.
She could somewhat guess what Amara was thinking. Feeling the pinch over such a small amount of money?
She thought to herself, "Kids from ordinary families are always so cheap. I bet they never share their snacks."
Elodie couldn't help but feel a bit of disdain. She thought, 'If Amara had the guts to use the card to buy herself something, I would have appreciated her.
'But unfortunately, she wants it but doesn't dare to admit it, clearly envious but pretending to be aloof.
'Oh well, for the sake of the child in her belly.' Elodie tolerated it and pointed to the display area in front of her, "See if there's anything you like, pick two."
Amara was secretly delighted but still politely declined.
Elodie found her even more annoying, "Suit yourself then."
Amara was stunned; she thought Elodie would insist!
At this moment, the sales associate who had been serving them suddenly walked to the door and exclaimed, "Mrs. Russell, you're here? We were just about to send the new season's items to you for selection!"
Russell?
Elodie's eyebrows twitched, and she turned to see Cynthia.
Dressed in a green long dress with a pearl shawl, carrying a bag, she looked intellectual and elegant, like a beauty from a painting.
Cynthia came from a scholarly family, with a gentle and quiet demeanor. Although she was over forty, she was well-maintained and looked just over thirty.
The social circle in the city was small, and the Russell family and the Wipere family had business dealings, so Cynthia and Elodie often met at various events.
But to say they were close or had a good relationship was not true.
Cynthia was highly educated and beautiful, and with the Russell family's status, she was always the center of attention wherever she went, making everyone else seem like background characters, including Elodie.
Cynthia also didn't like Elodie. She knew Elodie's background—a small-time actress who married into the Wipere family by getting pregnant, a scheming and sharp-tongued person.
Most importantly, Elodie was not good to Camilla.
Cynthia knew about Camilla and Leopold being together.
She always regretted that such a good girl as Camilla was so obsessed with Leopold, but fortunately, she woke up in time and turned back.
"Mrs. Russell, long time no see." Elodie smiled and greeted Cynthia first.
"Hello," Cynthia replied indifferently, clearly wasn't going to continue the chat.
Then she smiled and waved to someone behind her, her expression changing quickly, "Camilla, over here."
