Chapter 232 Is That Girl Your Girlfriend?
The two had worked together before.
Sebastian washed vegetables and did miscellaneous tasks.
Camilla was in charge of chopping and cooking.
Soon, the meal was ready.
They sat down across from each other, and Sebastian handed her a plate.
Camilla took it and smiled, saying, "Thank you."
Things seemed to return to normal, as if the earlier awkward moment had never happened.
After dinner, Sebastian went into the kitchen as usual to help clean up.
Camilla took the plates he handed her and dried them with a towel, one by one.
They worked together seamlessly and efficiently.
But when it came time to take out the trash.
Camilla and Sebastian both bent down to tie the trash bag at the same time, and their heads accidentally bumped into each other.
Camilla straightened up, holding her forehead and grimacing in pain.
"Sorry, sorry, I didn't notice," Sebastian apologized immediately, stepping forward. "Let me see how bad it is."
As he spoke, he gently moved Camilla's hand away.
There was a small red spot the size of a fingernail, but it wasn't swollen, so it didn't seem too serious.
He said, "Sorry, I was just trying to take out the trash and didn't expect to bump into you."
Camilla shook her head. "It's okay. It doesn't hurt anymore."
Despite her words, Camilla's eyes were still watery, and the corners of her eyes were red.
Sebastian's gaze grew more apologetic.
Camilla said softly, "Can you let go now?"
Only then did Sebastian realize that his hand was still around Camilla's wrist.
"Sorry!" He let go abruptly, as if he had been burned, and took two steps back.
Camilla was initially a bit embarrassed, but seeing his exaggerated reaction, she couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Sebastian also smiled. "Is it that funny?"
"Yes!"
He sighed. "As long as you're happy."
With that, he bent down again to tie the trash bag.
Sebastian's air conditioner was finally fixed, and the repairman knocked on the door. "Sebastian, come try it out. If it's working fine, we'll be on our way."
"Okay." Sebastian changed his shoes and put his slippers back in the cabinet.
The repairman chuckled. "You and your girlfriend living door-to-door like this is really convenient. You can work on your research without disturbing each other, and if you want to visit, it's just a few steps away. If one of your air conditioners breaks, you can just go to the other's place..."
Sebastian cleared his throat loudly, interrupting him. "Let's go check it out."
"Oh, okay."
Sebastian didn't explain his relationship with Camilla to the repairman.
It wasn't because he had any ulterior motives, but because he felt it wasn't necessary.
Firstly, no matter how much he explained, it might not change his mind, so it was better to ignore it.
Secondly, after today, they might never cross paths again, so there was no need to explain too much.
Lastly, and most importantly, explaining that they weren't a couple at this moment would make it seem even worse for Camilla, as he, a grown man, was coming out of a single girl's house.
It would damage Camilla's reputation.
In a scandal, men received far more leniency and forgiveness than women, and society's standards for women were already harsh, making them more vulnerable to unfounded accusations and harm in relationships.
Sebastian knew he couldn't change the status quo, but he could do his best to protect Camilla from harm.
That was all he could do.
Later, Sebastian said, "The air conditioner is working fine. Thank you. The payment has been transferred to your bank account."
"Great, we'll be on our way then. If you need anything else, just give us a call."
After seeing them off, Sebastian turned around and went back inside, just as the door across the hall opened, revealing Camilla's smiling face. "Sebastian, is it fixed?"
"Yes."
"Are you still going for a night run tonight?"
"Yes. Want to join?"
"Sure."
They each went home to change into their workout clothes.
Then they met up and went downstairs to start running.
The sun had already set, and the sky was gradually darkening, with the earth slowly being enveloped in darkness.
By the time they finished their first lap, the moonlight was becoming bright.
On the third lap, Camilla couldn't keep up anymore. "Sebastian, you go ahead. I'll take a break."
Sebastian stopped as well. "Are you okay?"
Camilla was drenched in sweat, her cheeks flushed. "I'm not that tired, just really hot."
Her hairline was completely wet, and sweat was dripping down her cheeks, soaking into her workout T-shirt.
Sebastian said, "Then let's stop running. I'll walk with you for a bit."
Camilla touched her nose, feeling a bit embarrassed.
They walked along the tree-lined path and soon reached the entrance of Harmony College. Sebastian went to a convenience store and bought two bottles of water, opening one and handing it to Camilla.
"Thanks."
After passing the front gate and walking another half lap, they reached the back gate.
Just inside the back gate was an open basketball court.
As they passed by, a basketball flew towards Camilla's head.
She noticed it and was about to dodge it.
But Sebastian reacted even faster, pulling her behind him and catching the ball with his other hand.
A whistle immediately sounded from the court. "Hey, man! Nice catch!"
Sebastian was wearing a white basketball jersey today, and at first glance, he really looked like a college student.
"We're short a player. Want to join a game?"
Sebastian was tempted but looked at Camilla first, his eyes questioning.
Camilla nodded. "Go ahead. I'll sit in the stands and watch."
She didn't expect Sebastian to know how to play basketball.
After sitting down, Camilla suddenly paused.
She thought, 'Why did Sebastian look at me just now? Does he need my permission to play basketball?'
As soon as Sebastian got on the court, he blocked two shots in a row, and even from a distance, Camilla could hear the boos and jeers.
"Wow! A pro, huh?"
"You're good, but be careful from now on!"
Sebastian raised an eyebrow and lifted his chin slightly. "Oh yeah? Let's see if you have what it takes."
Both sides went all out.
Sebastian was unstoppable. Whether it was a close dunk or a long shot, and whenever the ball was passed to him, he rarely missed a score.
And his jumping was impressive.
Several of his points were slam dunks.
"Nice!" Even Camilla, the only spectator, was getting excited.
After twenty minutes of continuous offense, Sebastian showed no signs of fatigue and still had plenty of energy, eventually overwhelming the other team.
"No more, no more!"
"We thought we were just picking up a random guy to fill in, but we ended up with a pro. I give up."
"We can't go on. Let's call it a day!"
Only then did Sebastian stop and toss the ball to his teammates.
They immediately surrounded him, laughing. "Hey, which department are you from? You've been hiding your skills, huh?"
"That was awesome!"
"Hey, why haven't we seen you before? You're from Harmony College, right? We play around here often."
Sebastian replied, "Yeah, I'm from Harmony College, but I don't come here often."
"If you're this good without coming often, are you showing off?"
"Let's exchange WhatsApp info. We can set up games in the future. Today's game was very satisfying! Hahaha!"
Sebastian took out his phone and let them add him on WhatsApp one by one.
Suddenly, someone asked, "Hey, is that girl in the stands your girlfriend?"
Sebastian looked up, and Camilla, seeing his gaze from afar, smiled and waved back.
