Chapter 221 Hand It Over!
Clio and Travis weren't killed by the truck, but they were close to death.
Both were covered in blood, with head injuries and disfigured faces.
When the truck came rolling over, Travis was still lying on the ground, throwing a tantrum. By the time he reacted, it was too late.
His limbs went limp, his heart pounded with fear, and he couldn't even get up from the ground.
In the end, he could only watch helplessly as the truck's front end came rushing towards him.
"Mom!" Travis screamed his heart out.
He thought he was surely going to die today, but at the last moment, the truck suddenly swerved, and the front end veered off course.
Travis was so scared he sat there in a daze.
When he finally came to his senses, he realized his pants were completely wet.
The truck that had changed direction was now heading towards Clio.
Clio instinctively covered her head and ran, but the truck behind her was like a cat playing with a mouse, chasing her around.
It didn't seem to want to kill her, but it also didn't want to let her go easily.
It was toying with her.
Clio ran, dodged, and screamed like a madwoman.
Even though she was exhausted, her survival instinct kept her from stopping.
Until she ran headfirst into a tree trunk, her face covered in blood, and collapsed to the ground.
The driver finally stopped, drove the truck away, and left.
"Mom! Mom! Are you okay?" Travis got up from the ground.
Clio lay limp on the ground, motionless, with a large gash on her forehead, blood gushing out.
Travis tried to cover the wound with his hand, but he forgot that his hand had just touched his wet pants, inevitably getting urine on it.
"Mom! Wake up!"
After calling out countless times and shaking her repeatedly, Clio finally opened her eyes.
"What happened to me?" She looked confused for a moment.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, Clio's face turned pale, her body trembled, and her teeth chattered uncontrollably.
She seemed to be in a state of extreme shock.
"Go!" She grabbed Travis's hand and pinched it hard, as if only this could alleviate her inner fear. "Go, now! Hurry!"
"Why?"
"Do you want to wait for that man to come back and run us over?"
Travis also recalled the terrifying moment and quickly pulled Clio up.
The two of them scrambled away.
They arrived at the hospital where Amara was, and the mother and son quickly treated their wounds.
"Mom, I'm scared! We can't stay here. I didn't expect Leopold to be so ruthless!" Leopold actually wanted them dead!
Clio finally realized that dealing with the wealthy was not easy.
Travis said, "Should we call the police?!"
"The driver ran away, and that place is a blind spot for surveillance. Do you think the police will care?"
Moreover, if they called the police, their extortion would be exposed.
"But Leopold hasn't transferred the money yet!"
Clio gritted her teeth. "You're still thinking about money?! He's deliberately stalling us, never intending to pay!"
"But we put in so much effort, are we just going to let it go?"
Clio's eyes shifted. "It's not like we got nothing."
Travis was stunned.
In the hospital room, Amara was still waiting for good news from Clio and Travis. Unexpectedly, they came, but not in the way she had hoped.
"Leopold gave you three million dollars, hand it over." Clio stood by the bedside, arms crossed, with a bandage wrapped around her head.
Amara was shocked. "Mom, how did you get hurt?"
"It's all because of you! If it weren't for you, how would your brother and I have gotten into trouble with Leopold?"
Without any benefits, Clio didn't want to pretend to be a loving mother anymore.
Travis said, "Leopold was so ruthless, why didn't you warn us? Today, Mom and I almost got killed by him. Did you do it on purpose, trying to harm us so you could keep the three million dollars for yourself?"
Amara hurriedly defended herself, "I didn't! Why would I want to harm you? I didn't know he would be so ruthless!"
Clio sneered. "You've been with Leopold for so long, and you don't know what kind of person he is?"
Travis chimed in, "Exactly! These injuries on me will cost a lot of money. Now we can't get any money from Leopold, so you have to compensate me!"
"Don't play poor with me. Leopold said he gave you three million dollars!" Talking about this made Clio angry. Clearly, Amara had money but deliberately hid it, just to make them take the risk while she reaped the benefits.
Amara's eyes flickered, and she pursed her lips. "I don't have much money on me right now, I can only give you twenty thousand dollars."
"Don't give me that crap! Do you think I don't know what you're up to? Where's the bank card? Here? Or here?"
Clio knew Amara too well; she was just like her, definitely hiding money!
Ignoring Amara's cries, Clio started searching everywhere.
Amara, afraid that her last bit of money would be found, tried to get out of bed but was stopped by Travis.
"Stay put! Mom and I have done so much for you this month, almost got run over, it's only right to get some compensation!"
Clio searched the table and cabinets, finally finding a bank card in a backpack.
"Travis! Come here!"
Travis's eyes lit up.
"That's my money! Give it back!" Amara was desperate to get out of bed. That card contained all her money.
Originally three million dollars, she had spent some, and now only a little over a million was left.
If they took it, she would have nothing left!
Travis pushed her harshly. "So you were hiding money, didn't expect you to be so sneaky!"
Clio said, "Travis, don't waste time talking to her. She's my daughter, her money is mine to take. Let's go home!"
If it weren't for Amara, they wouldn't have had so much trouble. If she had mentioned the money earlier, they wouldn't have made a wasted trip.
"Mom, Travis, you can't do this! That's my money!"
Amara chased after them, eyes full of despair. "Take the money, but don't leave me, Mom!"
But Clio didn't look back.
Amara collapsed in the hallway, crying uncontrollably.
At that moment, she felt abandoned by the whole world.
Learning that Clio had left Imperial City with Travis and taken all of Amara's money, Leopold smiled with satisfaction.
He called the hospital. "Freeze the account, suspend all expenses."
"What about Amara's hospital fees?"
"Didn't you understand what I said? Freeze and suspend. As for her, handle it as you see fit."
So that afternoon, a nurse told Amara, "Ms. Scott, you've recovered enough, you can be discharged now."
"I'm not leaving, I'm waiting for him." Amara sat by the bed, eyes vacant, like a lifeless puppet.
"If you want to stay, please go to the first floor to pay the fees. Here's the bill."
