Chapter 242 Coincidence
Before leaving, Alistair cooked himself a bowl of noodles, so he wasn't hungry at all. He took a book out of his bag and started reading it with great interest.
Twenty minutes later, the announcement for ticket inspection was made.
Bella and Camilla, carrying fewer items, went ahead and quickly scanned their IDs to pass through the gate, waiting inside for Alistair.
Alistair followed closely behind, dragging a suitcase with one hand and holding Bella's bag with the other. Just as he was about to take out his ID to scan, he suddenly realized his wallet was missing!
He remembered that while waiting in line, someone had bumped into him from behind, almost knocking him over.
The wallet must have been stolen from his backpack at that moment.
"Dad, hurry up," Camilla urged from inside the gate.
Alistair said, "My wallet is gone, and my phone and ticket are inside it."
Suddenly, Alistair spotted a figure in the crowd—it was the person who had bumped into him.
"Stop, thief!" Alistair dropped his suitcase and rushed forward.
Camilla and Bella, worried about him being alone, tried to come out from inside the gate but were stopped by a staff member. "Ladies, according to the rules, passengers who have passed the ticket inspection cannot go back. If you want to exit, please head towards the exit gate."
Going to the exit gate and then back to the waiting hall would take a long detour.
Bella explained, "My husband is chasing a thief. I'm worried about his safety. Can you make an exception?"
"Sorry, rules are rules. There's nothing I can do."
Camilla pondered for a moment, "How about this, we'll go through the exit gate, but can you notify the on-duty police to help my dad?"
"Don't worry, police officers have gone to help him."
Camilla sighed in relief.
She picked up the suitcase Alistair had left behind and walked towards the exit gate with Bella.
On the other side, Alistair checked his wallet and phone. "It's mine, no doubt. Thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have caught that guy!"
The man said, "You're welcome."
Alistair asked, "What's your name?"
"Marcus Davis."
"Dad!" came Camilla's voice.
Camilla and Bella came around from the exit gate, taking nearly 20 minutes.
"Camilla! I got the wallet and phone back!"
Bella looked him over, "Are you okay?"
Alistair took a breath. "I'm fine, just a bit hot from running, worked up a sweat."
The family of three walked back to the waiting hall.
They had definitely missed their train, so Camilla rescheduled for the next available one.
Even though it was the next one, it was still an hour away.
Back in the waiting hall, the family of three found seats.
Suddenly.
"Marcus!" Alistair stood up, waving excitedly.
Camilla and Bella instinctively looked up in that direction.
Camilla was stunned.
Marcus heard someone calling him and turned to look.
But the first thing he saw wasn't the person calling him, but a familiar figure!
His eyes lit up, and he walked briskly towards Camilla.
Alistair greeted warmly, shaking his hand, "What a coincidence, running into you again."
Marcus glanced at Alistair and then subtly looked at Camilla.
"Dad, you know him?" Camilla walked over, surprised.
Marcus thought, 'Dad?'
His lips curled slightly.
He was in Starlight City on a business trip for three days and was returning today.
But his flight was canceled due to weather, so he had his secretary book a train ticket for the morning.
Unexpectedly, there was an added bonus!
Alistair said, "This young man helped me catch the thief earlier. He's quite skilled!"
Camilla was momentarily stunned but then realized, "Thank you, Mr. Davis."
"Camilla, you're too polite. Anyone else in that situation would have stepped in without hesitation."
Bella was surprised, "You two know each other?"
Camilla and Marcus said in unison, "Yes."
As for how they knew each other, it was clearly not the right time to ask.
Bella didn't say anything more.
Alistair asked, "Marcus, where are you headed?"
Marcus replied honestly, "Back to Imperial City."
"What a coincidence! We're also going to Imperial City. Which train are you on?"
Marcus asked back, "Which one are you on?"
Alistair mentioned the train number.
Marcus smiled, "What a coincidence, I'm on the same one."
"That's great, we can travel together!"
"Sure."
Marcus was warmly pulled to sit down by Alistair.
While they chatted, Marcus discreetly took out his phone and rescheduled his ticket.
What wasn't a coincidence could be made into one.
The train police found Alistair and asked about the situation.
Alistair said he had recovered his phone and wallet.
The police asked him to sign a statement since they had responded to the incident.
Alistair naturally complied without hesitation.
Bella went with him, needing to stretch her legs after sitting for so long.
Now, it was just Camilla and Marcus.
Although there were other people around, with Alistair and Bella gone, it felt like they were alone.
Marcus said, "Camilla, in front of your parents, you should still call me Mr. Davis."
Marcus looked a bit aggrieved.
Camilla blinked, "What else should I call you? I've always called you Mr. Davis, haven't I?"
Marcus remembered something and took a book out of his bag.
Before he could speak, Camilla exclaimed, "You bought it!"
The book in Marcus's hand was the out-of-print original she hadn't finished reading at the bookstore!
Marcus raised an eyebrow, "I'm friends with the owner. After some persuasion, he reluctantly gave it to me."
It was a gift, not even a purchase.
Camilla suddenly felt a bit envious.
Marcus said, "Here, take it."
"What?" She was a bit stunned, then quickly waved her hands, "I don't want it. The owner gave it to you."
Marcus similed, "I got it from him intending to give it to you."
Otherwise, what would he do with such a professional book?
He couldn't even understand it.
