Chapter 162 Don't Worry About It
In the hospital room, Amara woke up to find her child gone, and she completely broke down.
This child was her only hope and leverage, how could it be gone!
"Doctor, my child must still be here, right? You were lying to me just now, weren't you? This joke is not funny at all, my child must still be alive!"
"Ms. Scott, I know losing a child is hard, but the fact is, the child is gone. Think it this way, you're still young, and in the future..."
At this point, the doctor paused, as if remembering something, and didn't continue.
"Why is the child gone? Did you not try your best to save it? And why did you abort the child without my consent? Who gave you the right!"
As if anticipating this reaction, the doctor calmly explained, "You were hemorrhaging heavily, and your water had broken. By the time you were brought in, the child had no heartbeat. We had to perform an emergency procedure to save your life. We tried to contact your family, but couldn't reach anyone. Finally, after informing the hospital administration of the emergency, we got approval to proceed with the surgery."
Then she continued, "The entire process was overseen by hospital leadership and health department officials. There is surveillance footage available for review. If you still doubt our professionalism, you can request to see the footage, and I'm sure the hospital will cooperate."
To prevent patients from causing trouble, the hospital had long established a comprehensive handling procedure for such situations.
Amara was instantly speechless.
She stared blankly at the ceiling, tears streaming from her eyes.
The doctor sighed and turned to leave.
"Mr. Wipere, the hospital has called several times."
Leopold had just come out of the conference room when his assistant approached with a phone.
"The hospital?" He paused.
"Yes."
Elodie had already been discharged, so it couldn't be about her.
Even if it were, someone else would have informed him; the hospital wouldn't call directly.
So, it could only be about Amara.
"Ignore it."
The assistant said, "But they've called five or six times in a row. It seems urgent. Should we..."
Leopold coldly raised his eyes.
The assistant immediately fell silent.
"Still no answer?"
At the nurse's station, one nurse looked at another and shook her head.
"The patient gave this number herself, saying it was her husband. It can't be wrong. Should I go confirm again?"
"Come back! Don't bother! We already expected this result."
"Huh? What do you mean? Is there something I don't know?"
"Haven't you checked the group chat?"
"No, I've been busy all morning. When would I have time to check messages?"
"That VIP patient, she's a mistress trying to climb up the social ladder because she's pregnant. She's very demanding. The last few times she was hospitalized, she was extremely difficult. Now, the child is gone."
"Apparently, she's still a college student."
"Is she being kept by a nouveau riche? Trying to have a son?"
"Think bigger."
"She's involved with a wealthy and powerful family. They are very well-known in the entire city. Haven't you noticed that all the expenses for the VIP room are billed to a separate account?"
"So what do we do now? We can't reach her family, and the head nurse will ask soon."
"Why don't you contact her mother-in-law? Well, not really her mother-in-law, but the man's mother, and see what she says."
"Okay."
The nurse found the number and dialed it. The call was answered quickly.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Hello, are you a family member of Ms. Scout? This is the maternity ward at Tranquil Hospital. Ms. Scott, she..."
Elodie immediately knew it was the hospital calling.
Most likely, Amara was causing trouble again.
She cut in directly, "Is she causing trouble again? Threatening to die, right? You don't need to call me. If she wants to die, let her die. Don't bother me!"
With that, she hung up.
She thought, 'Always the same trick, isn't it annoying?'
Elodie knew very well that all of Amara's leverage came from the child in her womb.
So, no matter how bold Amara was, she wouldn't dare harm the child.
Understanding this, Elodie felt that all the grievances she had suffered before were in vain.
Moreover, she had deliberately taken Mira, Lisa, and the driver away to teach Amara a lesson.
To let her experience some hardship without anyone to serve her!
Thinking of this, Elodie patted the face mask on her face and hummed a tune happily.
At the nurse's station, the two nurses exchanged a look, both feeling quite speechless.
Finally, one sighed, "Being a mistress never ends well."
Amara had been lying in the hospital for two days.
During this time, she had to go back into surgery due to continuous bleeding.
When she was wheeled out, her face was as pale as a ghost. Although her eyes were open, she couldn't speak.
The bleeding had caused severe infection.
She had suffered greatly.
Yet, she only had one caregiver by her side.
During this time, she repeatedly tried to contact Leopold and Elodie, to no avail. She even asked the nurses for help, but the result was always the same.
They had abandoned her!
The physical discomfort combined with emotional distress made Amara increasingly irritable and harsh.
The entire nurse's station was in an uproar, but they had to grit their teeth and deal with it.
After all, Amara was in a VIP room.
Elodie only found out about the child's death three days later.
When she received the call from Clara, she was momentarily stunned.
Gone?
How could it be gone?
She had been hospitalized so many times before, why did it have to be this time?
"Mom, you can forget about that five hundred million dollars. Just take what we are supposed to get."
Elodie felt a bit disappointed.
Both for the five hundred million dollars and for the grandson she had once hoped for.
After all, it was a life. But Amara was just too troublesome!
She could have had a good life, given birth to the child safely, and still received her benefits.
But on second thought, 'A child born from Amara will have inferior genes. Maybe it's better this way.'
After all this trouble, it had caused so many problems.
She even thought it might have been better to accept Camilla.
Although Camilla came from an average background and had just enough education, she took good care of Leopold, was a good homemaker, and was gentle and considerate. Most importantly, Camilla had dignity!
She would never do the things Amara did.
Elodie suddenly realized that she had been thinking about Camilla a lot lately, especially during the time she was dealing with Amara.
Although she really didn't want to admit that Camilla had any good qualities, Camilla was much better than Amara.
Amara endured day after day in the hospital room, staring blankly out the window.
She looked like her soul had been sucked out.
She couldn't help but wonder why Leopold hadn't come yet, and where Elodie had gone.
She thought, 'Wasn't she so concerned about the child in my womb? Why hasn't she shown up?'
Amara waited and waited until her heart was about to break. She never expected that the first visitor would be her former roommate, Lily.
