Chapter 13 Who Do You Think You Are
In rich families, dudes having side chicks was pretty normal as long as the wife didn't kick up a fuss. They could keep those side chicks however they want.
As a mom, she didn't really meddle much.
Today, she was making a big promise to Camilla.
But Camilla wasn't all thankful like Elodie thought she'd be.
Instead, Camilla sneered, "Ms. Smith, save your charity for someone else. I can't take it. Besides, I've already dumped Leopold. When we meet again, let's just be strangers."
Back in the day, for Leopold, she put up with Elodie no matter what.
Elodie didn't like her 'cause she wasn't super educated, didn't have a career or job after graduation. Basically, she wasn't good enough for Leopold.
Before, Camilla might've tried to win over this future mother-in-law. Now, she didn't even want Leopold, so why should she care about his mom?
So she wasn't gonna put up with her anymore.
"Oh, and one more thing, Ms. Smith, a little advice for you."
Elodie was confused.
Camilla smirked, "Don't be so harsh when you talk, 'cause it's really annoying."
With that, Camilla turned around gracefully and walked into the library.
Elodie stood there, stunned, "What did she just say? How dare she talk to me like that! Who does she think she is! Does she still want to marry Leopold?"
Clara, feeling her mom's grip on her arm, finally snapped out of it and mumbled, "Mom, did Camilla just say she broke up with Leopold?"
"Do you believe it?"
"Well, they've broken up so many times, but it never really sticks."
Everyone knew Camilla was head over heels for Leopold, impossible to get rid of.
Clara looked away, "Mom, don't forget the important stuff today. You need to come with me to visit the school leaders."
Looking at the time, if they didn't leave now, they'd be late.
Elodie took a deep breath to calm down, "Let's go. Who does Camilla think she is? We can't let her mess up your important stuff!"
Harmony College's library was old and had a ton of books, known as the "ocean of knowledge."
Camilla wandered around for a while before finding a seat near the bioinformatics section.
Perfect for quick reference.
Her eyes skimmed the top shelf and she spotted Sebastian's name.
Curious, she pulled out the book. The cover showed the vast universe, kinda like the vibe Sebastian gave her—deep, expansive, calm, and quiet.
It was a research notebook, talking about the structure and dynamics of protein molecules, a mix of biology and physics.
The first page had a handwritten note: [All things are interconnected, disciplines have no boundaries.]
Only a genius like him could talk so confidently about "interdisciplinary research."
Before she knew it, most of the day had flown by, and Camilla had almost finished the book.
Even though her undergrad major was bioinformatics, her physics grades were pretty good, too.
At one in the afternoon, she closed the book, put it back, took a deep breath, and finally felt hungry.
Leaving the library, she planned to grab some food before heading back to study more.
Halfway through her meal, Juniper called.
She asked, "Juniper, what's up?"
"Are you at home?"
"No, I'm at the library," Camilla took a sip of water, "What's up?"
"Leopold came by yesterday!" Juniper was still kinda pissed when she mentioned it.
"He asked where you were. Seriously, how could I tell him? You haven't run into him these days, have you?"
Camilla shook her head, "Nope."
"Good," Juniper sighed in relief, "By the way, are you free tonight? I need a favor..."
After chatting with the school leaders, everything went smooth as butter, and Clara's face lit up, totally shaking off the bad vibes from her run-in with Aurora.
"Come on, Mom, hop in the car."
Elodie frowned, her eyes drifting back towards the library, "You go ahead; I got something to handle."
She then called another driver from home to bring the car over.
Clara figured Elodie was off to another social event and didn't think much of it. Little did she know, once Elodie got in the car, she told the driver, "Take me to Leopold's company."
Just after wrapping up a meeting, Leopold saw Elodie storming in, looking all fired up.
Leopold felt a headache coming on, "Mom, what are you doing here?"
"What? I can't drop by?"
"Not really," he rubbed his nose.
Elodie snorted and made a beeline for the sofa, plopping down, "If you can't handle your woman, I don't mind stepping in."
Leopold was confused.
"You should hear what Camilla said. You've spoiled her rotten!"
Leopold was surprised, "Camilla? What happened?"
"I ran into her at the Harmony College library just now. I said a few words to her, and she lost it! She called me harsh and mocked me for being uneducated! She's really from a small family, no manners at all!"
Leopold frowned, "You ran into her at the library?"
"Yeah, instead of staying home cooking and cleaning, she goes to the library pretending to be all cultured. Does she think I'll be impressed? Dream on! She even said she's already broken up with you and that if she sees me again, we'll be strangers! Is that how she talks to elders? Does she still want to marry into the Wipere family?!"
Leopold's eyes grew darker.
Suddenly Elodie asked, "Did you really break up?"
He replied almost instinctively, "Of course not."
"I knew it! Someone like her wouldn't let go of a rich boyfriend so easily! Anyway, you know what happened. Go back and teach her a lesson for me!"
Elodie's complaints were getting on Leopold's nerves.
"Mom," he interrupted, "Enough. I have another meeting to attend. I'll have someone take you home."
"But I haven't finished..." Seeing Leopold's increasingly stern face, Elodie wisely shut her mouth.
"Fine, I'll leave for now. But you can't let her off easy. Women need to be well-disciplined to be obedient!"
"Okay."
After sending Elodie off, Leopold loosened his tie and exhaled deeply.
Looking at the sunset outside the window, he didn't want to go back to the villa. Remembering that Amara's birthday was coming up in a few days, he messaged Oliver to ask what would be a good gift.
Oliver replied instantly: [Women all like jewelry. A bracelet or necklace should do.]
Leopold: [I don't know how to choose. Come with me.]
Oliver was puzzled and thought, 'As a single guy, how come do I know how to choose?'
They arranged to meet at the downtown mall.
In the jewelry store.
"Sir, what are you looking for?" The saleswoman asked with a smile.
Leopold said, "A gift for my girlfriend."
"How about this ladies' necklace? The heart design is subtle yet sweet, perfect for Moore women."
Oliver, not interested in these things, glanced around the store.
The next second, he excitedly shouted, "Camilla!"
Leopold's body stiffened for two seconds before he turned around nonchalantly.
Juniper had a business banquet tonight and couldn't leave the office, so she asked Camilla to pick up a set of custom jewelry from the store.
Unexpectedly, they ran into each other.
Camilla smiled at Oliver, "Oliver."
"Long time no see. Been busy lately?" He glanced at Leopold, "Since we ran into each other, how about having dinner together?"
