Chapter 178 Sebastian is Really Nice
No wonder Camilla was so surprised.
First of all, Sebastian was usually busy in the lab at this time and wouldn't be anywhere else.
Secondly, he and Alistair were playing chess, with an open calendar notebook beside them.
The two seemed to be having a great conversation, as if they had known each other for years.
"Camilla, you're back?"
Hearing the noise, Alistair immediately looked towards the entrance.
Sebastian's gaze followed, and he locked eyes with Camilla.
Their eyes met, and he smiled, "Are you that surprised to see me?"
"What are you doing here?" Camilla reacted, changed into slippers, and walked in.
Before Sebastian could speak, Alistair jumped in. "This morning, when I went out with your mom, I ran into Sebastian in the stairwell and invited him over."
And what a visit it turned out to be.
Alistair found that no matter what topic he brought up, Sebastian could chat about it.
Even gardening, Sebastian knew about it!
When they talked about physics, which was Sebastian's field, it only took a few sentences for him to completely win Alistair over.
Alistair said, "I'm old now; it's a young person's world!"
Sebastian quickly waved his hand, "Not at all, you are the one with hidden talents."
Sebastian wasn't just being polite.
Alistair had a comprehensive knowledge base and a clear logical framework in his mind, likely due to his solid undergraduate foundation.
This was expected by Sebastian, so he wasn't too surprised.
What really shocked him was that Alistair was also well-versed in the latest research directions in the field of physics.
Moreover, Alistair could even discuss some of the latest research findings in related subfields.
This wasn't something an undergraduate could achieve.
It required long-term, periodic reading of research papers.
Sebastian asked, "Do you usually read research papers?"
"After preparing my lessons each day, I read one or two as a form of relaxation."
"You mentioned collecting information about the internal structure of protons from neutrinos scattered by plastic targets. This is a recent technological breakthrough, and there are very few related papers, but you seem to know it well."
"Oh, that!" Alistair suddenly realized, "When I was making excerpt notes back then, I analyzed this research topic. The difficulty in using neutrinos to study proton structure lies mainly in how to observe the neutrino signals scattered by a single proton..."
This made Sebastian even more surprised.
Excerpt notes?
He must be talking about the calendar notebook that Gilbert was so proud of.
Coincidentally, he had it with him today.
He took it out and indeed found Alistair's excerpt notes.
After listening, Camilla raised an eyebrow, "My dad's notes are really in there?"
"Of course, Alistair is amazing," Sebastian praised earnestly.
"Dad, why have you never mentioned this?"
Alistair sighed, "What's there to say? I'm not pursuing a research career, and these notes are from many years ago. Who knows if they still exist?"
Many years ago, yet it precisely hit today's research hot spots.
Sebastian's view of Alistair changed again and again.
Then, he suddenly understood.
No wonder Camilla was so outstanding.
After Camilla returned, Sebastian didn't stay long. He politely declined Bella's invitation to stay for dinner, giving the family their time and space.
Alistair, however, still looked reluctant to part, "Sebastian is really something."
He took a sip of water and smacked his lips, "Really something."
Camilla couldn't help but laugh, "Dad, you look at him like he's your dream lover."
"Nonsense! My dream lover is only your mom!"
Because they were exhausted from hiking yesterday, Alistair and Bella decided to stay home and rest today.
Camilla naturally respected their wishes.
That night, Alistair slept alone, and Camilla slept next to Bella.
Bella held her in her arms like when she was a child.
Smelling Bella's sweet scent, Camilla quickly fell asleep.
Early in the morning, Camilla got up and checked her email as usual.
She received a reply from a biology journal she had submitted to earlier, asking her to complete the relevant references.
She had checked it before finalizing, but there could still be omissions.
To be safe, she decided to go over it again.
"Dad, Mom, I'm going to the library later. I should be back by noon."
"Okay, you do your thing, don't worry about us!"
At noon, the weather changed suddenly.
It had been scorching hot, but during lunch, the sky turned gloomy.
Bella looked worriedly out the window, "It's about to pour, and Camilla didn't take an umbrella when she went out. Let's take one to her. It's close by, just a few steps."
Alistair nodded and quickly got ready to go out.
As soon as they stepped into the stairwell, they heard footsteps from downstairs.
The sensor light came on, and they saw it was Sebastian.
"Sebastian? You're back early today?"
Alistair and Bella had run into Sebastian frequently these past few days and had gradually become familiar with him.
"Are you going out?"
"Yes, the weather changed so quickly. It looks like it's going to pour. We're going to take an umbrella to Camilla at the library."
When Sebastian came back, the sky had just turned cloudy, and it was still stiflingly hot. There was a faint dark glow on the horizon, indicating it was about to rain.
He wanted to say that the library had spare umbrellas, but it was clear that Alistair and Bella wanted to pick up Camilla as well.
"The way to the library is a bit winding. Let me take you there."
"No need, no need," Alistair quickly waved his hand, "You just got back. It's too much trouble. We've been there once; we should be able to find it."
"It's no trouble. I left some materials in the lab and was planning to go back anyway."
Sebastian wasn't entirely lying.
He did leave some materials in the lab, but they weren't urgent and could be retrieved anytime.
Alistair and Bella exchanged a glance and didn't refuse further. "Thank you so much. We were worried about getting lost in those winding paths!"
