Chapter 131 Sebastian?
Cherie Cox was buzzing with excitement. Normally, Paloma barely got involved in these kinds of things, and even when she did, it was just to tick a box.
After finally brewing a pot of tea, she naturally wanted to enjoy it properly.
Camilla strolled over to them, casually glancing up and locking eyes with Paloma.
Paloma froze, maybe a bit embarrassed, and then let out a cold, arrogant snort.
But to Camilla, that arrogance seemed like a cover for her embarrassment.
Cherie chimed in, "Camilla, why don't you give this tea a try?"
Camilla rinsed her mouth first, then took a sip.
After a moment, she gave her honest opinion, "Too many tea leaves, not enough water. The color's too dark, the taste is bitter, and it seems like the pot wasn't warmed up right, so the aroma didn't come through."
Cherie burst out laughing, "See? I told you skipping steps would mess up the taste, and you said no one would notice. Didn't Camilla just call it out?"
Paloma's face darkened.
She thought, 'Sure, Camilla's just stating the facts, but does she have to be so blunt? Can't she be a bit more tactful?'
Cherie laughed even harder, "I really shouldn't have expected much from you."
Paloma stayed silent.
Camilla, oblivious to the offense she caused, had already moved on to taste another lady's tea.
Elodie sat in her seat, watching Camilla get surrounded and genuinely praised by so many ladies. She felt a mix of jealousy and complicated emotions.
She had always dreamed of gaining the recognition of these high-society ladies and wealthy wives. She had worked hard for years just to sit and chat with them.
But Camilla? She just gave a tea ceremony class and got all this star treatment.
Why?
The most annoying part was that Camilla didn't even seem to care about the recognition and adoration. She calmly answered everyone's questions, gave fair evaluations, didn't flatter or fawn, and spoke the truth.
Some of her evaluations weren't even that good.
But those picky, harsh ladies didn't get mad at all; instead, they thanked her profusely.
Elodie was baffled.
Looking at Amara, who was shrinking like a quail and didn't dare to speak after apologizing, and whose tea was a mess, she felt even more frustrated.
For the first time, she thought it wouldn't be so bad to have Camilla as her daughter-in-law. At least she was much better than Amara.
At five o'clock, the tea ceremony class wrapped up.
Everyone left satisfied.
As soon as Elodie walked out of the hotel, she pointed at Amara's forehead and cursed, "Didn't I tell you to prepare well? Is this how you prepared? Look at your sloppy actions, making it obvious you lack common sense, right?"
"I've never seen someone as clueless as you. Can't you use your brain for once? How could Camilla come unprepared? You're just too dumb!"
Amara bit her lip, wanting to defend herself. She took two steps forward, but Elodie quickly stepped back as if Amara had a virus.
"Stay away from me. I hate stupid people! You better not show up in front of me these days, or I'll feel sick."
"Such bad luck. I feel sorry that my grandson has a mother like you."
She looked at Amara coldly, not giving her any face, "Someone like you can never marry into the Wipere family!"
Cynthia's driver arrived.
Paloma was about to head out when Cynthia called after her, "Hey Paloma, wanna join me?"
"Nah, got other stuff to do."
Cynthia didn't push it and told the driver to go.
Camilla was also waiting for her ride at the hotel entrance, constantly greeting people who came up to her.
Cynthia knew someone was picking Camilla up, so she didn't arrange a driver. Sebastian was right on time, showing up in just ten minutes, actually two minutes early.
It started to drizzle. Through the windshield, he saw Camilla in a long dress, looking like she had stepped out of a painting, too beautiful to be real.
Sebastian was stunned for a couple of seconds, then pulled over and parked.
He got out, opened an umbrella, and after picking her up, thoughtfully opened the car door for her.
Camilla bent down, and Sebastian immediately used his hand to shield the car roof to prevent her from bumping her head.
"Thanks."
After sitting down, Camilla looked up and smiled at him, "Sorry to trouble you again, Sebastian."
She had planned to take a cab back to avoid bothering Sebastian, but the weather changed unpredictably. It was sunny earlier, but now it was raining, making it impossible to get a cab.
Across from the hotel entrance, in a small pavilion, Paloma was waiting for the valet to bring her car. She unintentionally saw Camilla get into a black Volkswagen.
It was a bit far, so she didn't see the man's face clearly, but she noticed the umbrella he was holding had a double R logo.
It was an umbrella that came with a Rolls-Royce.
Paloma frowned and then snorted coldly.
She thought that these days, any girl with a bit of looks and charm was trying to snag a rich man, and it turned out Camilla was no different.
She wondered what kind of taste these men had.
In the car, Sebastian sneezed.
He had a bit of a cold earlier, but after taking some medicine, he was almost recovered. But he was sneezing again.
As soon as Camilla got in the car, she noticed a new pendant hanging below the rearview mirror, with two additional crystal beads at the bottom.
She immediately recognized it as a small gift she had bought from Reefhaven Isles and was pleasantly surprised. "Why did you hang this in the car?"
"This little wooden figure is made of agarwood, which calms the mind. There's also Arabic script on the back, meaning 'safe travels,' so I tied a knot and hung it in the car. It seemed fitting."
Camilla watched the little pendant sway and couldn't help but touch it. She turned it over and indeed saw a string of unfamiliar characters.
"So it's Arabic. I hadn't noticed before."
"Yep."
"You know Arabic?"
"A little."
"How do you read this?" Camilla rubbed the carved characters on the wooden figure.
Sebastian uttered unfamiliar sounds.
Camilla repeated after him. The first time was a bit off, but the second time was spot on.
"Is that how you pronounce it?"
Sebastian nodded. "Yep. Nailed it."
Camilla was curious, "When did you learn Arabic?"
"About six years ago? I was reading a physicist's work, and the original text was in Arabic. The translation wasn't quite accurate, so I learned Arabic for six months to read it."
Camilla was shocked.
She thought, 'He learned a language just to read a book?'
Camilla still had a set of data analysis to complete tonight. After some discussion, they decided to find a random restaurant to grab a bite and then head back to the lab together.
At night, the large lab was left with just the two of them.
