Chapter 183 Not Worth the Price
Leopold came from a privileged background, but his success was built through his own hard work.
He had seen countless people like Clio and Travis.
They talked a big game, but it was all about getting more money during negotiations.
Sure enough.
Clio's eyes shifted. "Since you're so straightforward, I won't waste any more time. The damage to my daughter is done, and compensation is necessary. We're not asking for much, just this amount."
She held up one hand.
Leopold raised an eyebrow.
Clio said, "Fifty million dollars, not a penny less!"
At this, Leopold genuinely laughed.
It wasn't out of anger or frustration; he just found it amusing.
Travis was also stunned by Clio's greed.
Hadn't they agreed on five hundred thousand dollars before?
How did it suddenly become fifty million?!
Clio said, "What are you laughing at? My daughter's youth, body, and health can't be measured in money!"
Leopold smirked. "Is it that it can't be measured in money, or is it just worthless? Think carefully before you speak."
Amara had tried to manipulate him countless times, and he had let it go because she had been with him for a while. Now these people dared to ask for money?
They must be desperate!
"What do you mean?" Clio's face darkened. "How dare you say my daughter is worthless?!"
"Because she's a slut. She threw herself at me, used tricks to get pregnant, and then lost the baby herself."
Clio's eyes flickered.
She clearly knew the truth.
Leopold smirked. "You don't seem so innocent yourself, do you?"
Clio reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, instantly bristling. "Fine, you heartless bastard! You did something so cruel, and now you want to turn the tables on us? In our town, people like you would be beaten to death with sticks!"
Then she continued, "You ruined my daughter's reputation, and now you want to shirk responsibility? I'm telling you, that's not going to happen! If you don't want to pay, then marry her! Take responsibility!"
Leopold's face remained expressionless.
This time, he didn't even want to laugh.
So Amara's lowliness and greed were inherited.
Clio, however, didn't notice the cold glint in Leopold's eyes and continued, "Fifty million dollars, and we'll pretend this never happened. We won't bother you again. How about it? Isn't that a good deal?"
Leopold replied coldly, "First of all, Amara isn't worth that much; secondly, your threats have no effect on me. Lastly, get the hell out of here! Call security!"
The assistant immediately picked up the phone.
Soon, the security team arrived and threw Clio and Travis out of the building.
Clio yelped as she landed on her butt.
"Mom, are you okay?" Travis hurried to help her up, but he wasn't in much better shape himself.
His hair was a mess, and his T-shirt was wrinkled.
Clio stood up with his help and started cursing at the revolving door. "What a load of crap! Damn it! How dare they throw me out! This is infuriating. We finally got in, and Leopold is completely unyielding!"
"Mom, what if he doesn't agree? Are we not getting any money? It's your fault; didn't you say we only needed five hundred thousand dollars? Why did you suddenly change it to fifty million? Do you think rich people are idiots?"
"You know nothing!" Clio snorted. "What can you do with five hundred thousand dollars nowadays? You can't even buy a luxury car. Is that all you aspire to?"
"But if we ask for too much, they won't give us anything! We might as well have taken the five hundred thousand easily."
"Stupid boy, is that all you can see? Look at this building, and Elodie's mansion. Not to mention, the watch on Leopold's wrist is worth at least five hundred thousand dollars."
"They have plenty of money, so why shouldn't we ask for more? Even if we don't get fifty million, we should at least get five million."
Travis was tempted. The difference between five hundred thousand and five million was huge.
"But they won't even talk to us. We can't get five dollars, let alone fifty million." Travis was disheartened.
Clio, however, was confident. "Do you know what the rich value the most?"
"What?"
"Reputation! The wealthier they are, the more they care about their reputation. No matter what, your sister is the victim, and Leopold is at fault. We have the moral high ground! Didn't you record a video when we confronted Elodie at the hotel? Edit it and post it online. People love drama, especially when it involves the rich! Once it blows up, I doubt they can stay calm!"
Travis quickly contacted his group of friends.
"Mom, you're amazing. How did you come up with this?"
At three in the afternoon, Travis posted a video on his TikTok account.
In the video, a middle-aged woman with her face blurred out was grabbing a wealthy woman, accusing her son of abandoning her daughter after getting her pregnant!
A group of wealthy women stood by, watching the drama unfold.
The person recording the video claimed to be the victim's brother, standing up for his sister.
The title: #Watch! Top Socialite in Imperial City Gets Beaten, The Shocking Truth Is...#
Rich people, socialites, and a beating.
Each keyword hit the gossip sweet spot.
A beating wasn't unusual, but a socialite getting beaten? That piqued curiosity.
Soon, the comment section was buzzing.
[Turns out socialites pull hair too!]
[Love it, want more!]
[One socialite getting beaten, and a group of socialites watching. This is gold!]
[Which socialite is this? Is her hair okay? Did she go bald?]
[Summary: A rich guy knocked someone up, and the girl's mom is tearing into the guy's mom.]
[Am I the only one impressed by the mom doing the beating?]
[Wake up, people. It's obvious they couldn't agree on a price. If the money was right, this wouldn't have gone public.]
[Exactly, this is just to get more leverage in negotiations. Don't let yourselves be used.]
As the comment section grew more lively, and the shares and likes increased, Travis hummed a tune in satisfaction.
But his joy was short-lived. Soon, he received a violation notice, and the video was taken down.
Travis was dumbfounded.
He grabbed his phone and kept refreshing. "Where's my video? Where's my video!"
